Acer Predator XR341CK 34" 144Hz Curved Gaming Screen with G-sync

I'm a 3440 x 1440 21:9 gamer (LG curved 34")

You don't need 3rd party programs anymore. Pretty much all modern games support 3440 x 1440

I have to use it for D3 and wolfenstien. Doesn't FC4 also need flawless widescreen for proper 21.9 support?

I saw on anandtech the ratio might require a reghack for tombraider which is also a ubisoft game. Looks awesome.

Also I'm all FOR the curve.
 
If only we had some info about this monitor...

It would make our decisions so much easier.

NO.

When it first came out, there was a flaw. It had 3440 x 1440 as a selectable resolution in the in-game menus, but then when you played, the textures were stretched horribly. It was correctable by changing the in game menu setting to "Borderless" (instead of the normal "full screen"). This fixed the texture stretch problem in game BUT it had the sad side-effect of disabling SLI performance increase (played like you had only a single card).

This has long since been corrected in patches and FC4 plays fine now at 3440 x 1440 @ full screen settings w/ SLI support.

The new Wolfenstein plays fine too if I remember right (haven't played it since launch day, didnt like the game play) but I can re check if anyone needs me to.
 
This might be bad news.

This is from a very recent Q&A with Asus people:

"Q. Will IPS ever hit 120/144 Hz? Even at 1080p? I'd be very interested in such a monitor from Asus.

A. Our upcoming MG series monitor will offer an in place switching panel at 120 to 144 Hz. Stay tuned... Resolution will be 2560 x 1440."

So if Asus is saying they are going to have a 120-144hz IPS at 2560 x 1440 late this year, the odds of Acer having a 3440 x 1440 one in the same time frame doesn't sound good to me. Its not like Acer has access to a whole different panel technology than Asus does.

That has nothing to do with the 34" Predator. Asus is just late to the game releasing an inferior free-sync product based off of the 27" 1440p IPS panel used in the 27" Acer Predator.
 
Yeah very old info. Acer already have a 144Hz IPS type screen at 2560 x 1440 and with Gsync (the XB270HU). The forthcoming Asus MG279Q is expected to be a 120Hz (maybe 144Hz) IPS type (likely same panel as the Acer) and might support FreeSync

The 34" model this thread has always been about still hasn't had pane tech or specs finalised and has been pencilled in for late Q2 at best anyway so will be quite a way off still
 
You don't need it for D3, just play in Windowed Fullscreen and it should scale properly.

Windowed mode is not a "fix" for a g-sync monitor. G-sync only works in full screen mode. Windowed full screen is still windowed mode, just stretched across the whole screen.
If a game isn't capable of 3440x1440 in full screen mode, then it doesn't support this monitor as far as I'm concerned.

Some games don't work well in sli when not in full screen mode either, and a resolution like this monitor's would "require" sli imo.
 
No game utilizes SLI In windowed mode. Other GPUs simply mirror the prime card load giving the illusion that SLI is working.
 
I still think this monitor is vapor ware
(I REALLY hope I am wrong:p)

Considering no one can give a definitive answer about what kind of tcon it is using, it may not be vaporware, but i expect at least a healthy degree of industrial security over its specs. For starters it will likely require a custom DP cable for distances longer than 6ft:eek: and an uncatalogued tcon like the one Apple custom built for the retina imac.

And the g-sync module uses altera V, i think. At least the first module did according to some old article i read. (ARM-based SOC - maybe samsung cut some deal to use their own ARM cpu's?).

Altera has several models specified to handle more bandwidth than dp 1.2, so the tech for this monitor @3440x1440 is definitely available.

If the old one can't be clocked high enough, it should be possible to just use a better chip at a higher cost.

3440x1440 at 144Hz fits inside the DP 1.2 spec (barely), so in theory properly spec'd TCon's and cable length of ten feet should still apply.

Since the ROG Swift needed a heat sink on the G-Sync module for 2560x1440 @ 144 Hz, either an even more robust cooling solution is needed for a monitor like this or perhaps a second generation G-Sync module will be fitted.
 
Personally I'm going to wait it out and hope that samsung and maybe asus release similar versions to compare in the long run. Also keeping tabs on oculus rift/VR. :cool:

Interesting monitor, but I can't trust Acer panel QC.
With everything they are trying to cram inside this monitor, get ready for the panel lottery.
 
OcUK is confirming IPS, 3440x1440 and not only a G-Sync version, but Freesync too!

This monitor will be the end game for a few years for gamers..

They are IPS, 3440x1440 and there will be a Freesync version around £899 and a G-Sync version around £999

Well any way I'm out - 900-1000 pounds is a bit outside my league so I'm back to being 27" gaming peasant (when they finally have some xb270hu in stock locally)

If true, that's freaking awesome.

I've gone 4K and I don't see myself going back, but depending on price I might be forced to get one of these to see what all the G-Sync fuss is about. My 34" ultrawide monitors seem tiny after using the 40" & 48" Samsung JU6700, but those are truly awesome specs.

Seems like I'll be saying goodbye to my Swift very soon then.
 
I'm going to hold out for hopefully a samsung or an asus version. I'm very happy with the swift for now so not in a huge rush. That way I'll get to compare the different versions but I'll be following this thread closely for sure. Glad the acer will be out by then so I have something to read and see about the tech. Hopefully by the time samsung and/or asus comes out with one the next "ti" tier from nvidia will be out so I could do a new sli setup to power it (have 780ti sc's in sli currently). I have no interest in the titans, the Ti series typically gets higher frame rates for 1/3 less cost than the titans before it, and this time around the "ti" series should have a good amount of vram (even though not as high as the titan).
 
Question? If you have a not so powerful GPU for this monitor. I have a GTX-680 and want to use the monitor for multitasking along with some gaming. Will playing a game in windowed mode will do? Granted I will be upgrading later to a new GPU but I'm holding until I see what's new in few months.

I don't need to play full screen but I love to have all that real state for other stuff.

What's your experience?
 
So this baby is launching this year? Darn I already made my big monitor purchase for the year with the XB270HU. Well there's always next year and maybe even some competitors to this thing will be out too:cool:

windowed mode doesn't support g-sync (and usually not multiple gpus either for that matter).

If you can't get very high fps (~> 100fps or so) fullscreen at high or very high settings for the mode/most common frame rate then I'd recommend a 1080p g-sync monitor instead since at lower frame rates you wouldn't even be using the higher hz's increased motion definition and motion clarity (blur reduction).
If you aren't going to play fullscreen at all you won't even be using the g-sync you paid for.
However - you might be able to run a lower resolution surrounded by black bars in full screen mode to give you a higher frame rate and still utilize g-sync variable hz instead, not certain how these monitors will handle that but without a scaler should be able to. That way you'd have your desktop/app real-estate and still be able to play in a smaller screen mode when gaming.
