Destiny - Discussion Thread

So I've just learned the hard way about there being no matchmaking for weekly heroic strikes. This is another frustrating thing about Destiny where the game seems to be deliberately trying to get in the way of the player having fun. It's so infuriating.

Just saying the Multiplayer maps with the vehicles are way too big you drive around walk around for a good 10 minutes looking for someone to kill and can't find anyone.

You're definitely doing something wrong.

But the funny thing is, he seems to be the type of player that complains about Crucible, when Crucible is probably one of the best things about this game. The gunplay and everything about it is just so well done compared to the other games of late.

Crucible was easily my favorite aspect of the game. If Bungie was able to bring PVP into the PVE part of the game, I'd probably return to Destiny. I like the idea of different factions of Guardians fighting over a large PVE/PVP area. It'd definitely make grinding patrols a bit more exciting.

The nightfall/weekly/daily + Raid thing is set that way since Bungie figured people would not want PUG groups doing those as they require some close team work in most settings. Daily and weekly not so much. If you are not exploiting Nightfall, it "should" be one of the hardest modes of the game.
Once you figure out a lot of things about how the AI works and the level design, the Nightfall becomes a lot easier. Last weeks was a joke because of the damage multipliers. The weekly was actually harder than the Nightfall in that case. I haven't done this weeks weekly, waiting for a time where a friend and I can do it together, then we will do it twice for both of our 20+ characters.

Cheesed Hard mode atheon one more time with some random dudes from LFG, we knocked him off in two tries.

Got the ship and the Void damage auto. It shoots SO FAST. I suppose now I need to do the rest of the raid legitimately and get myself some Boots/Chest/Helm to push 30, but as it stands I've pretty much got the two best primaries in the game. :D

Too bad there is nothing else to look forward to for 2 months...which I'm still not buying the expansion...my RL bro will probably buy it for me though and guilt trip me into playing more...

I'll reiterate, $20 just doesn't justify one raid and a few strikes (and otherwise worthless "story" "content")

I have a level 26 Warlock if any of you guys have a xbox1 and you want to try the vault of glass. My username is spliffstarr1976!

Atheon epilogue is a very common drop

I think its absolute nonsense to not have matchmaking in either heroic strikes or raids. I can't even imagine WoW without matchmaking and doing Heroic dungeon runs either through lucky solo or rounding up people to farm it.

Total pain in the ass. I think the only reason I play this game is to please my friends and frankly I've held out the longest I can.

Deej kind of explained why there is no matchmaking for Raids. It goes along with what I agree with. To a fault, Bungie doesn't want you to fail coming out of the gate. Good communication and teamwork is absolutely needed for completing the Raid.
Even with a competent group, it can be a real pain in the ass and I have experienced that myself.
I for one would never use a matchmaking feature for the Raid. I know in most regards, a choice is always preferable but in their eyes, they don't want you to be turned off or away because of a fault of other players.

Have they not thought of people posting guides to the raids? Once you match make and if you had voice comms right off the hop, the raids wouldn't be so bad at all. Look at how destinylfg is working out for a lot of people. Raids are completed on a weekly basis by PUGs.

I'm done with this game until the expansion comes out.
The disconnects have gotten to a stupid point where I cant even progress anymore. I love getting kicked out of a strike, 45 minutes into it and having no way to rejoin the group i was with and of course you get nothing for it. Don't even get me started on the joke that is attempting to connect to the Tower......

They MUST add a way to rejoin games you been dropped from, when not playing with people on your fireteam/friends. It's insane to play 3 hours and get nothing from it because of all the disconnects.

It's basically a posting board to find people to play/raid with ('looking for group'). A feature that you'd normally take for granted with any other social MMO.

Or a simple kb/m chat system... I really hate chatting over PSN. Between 17 year long loading screens and simple PC features, makes me wonder how much better of a game Destiny would be if it was on PC.

Had some fun for a few hours looking for spores for upgrades found a video for the locations. I'm level 25 found another loot cave =) Didn't get a legendary but got a blue engram with a Strange Coin now I just need 3 more for some Heroic gear from Xur who was pretty hard to find.

Oh where is it at? Im thinking I'll give the game another chance while I'm out of town locked in a hotel room lol

So, in their "weekly update" bungie states that they are fixing the Atheon ledge exploit, but that they are also "fixing a bug" making the three chosen for the teleport random instead of the three furthest away. Which means you can't even plan your team/roles out, everyone needs to know the entire fight and every aspect, plus be equipped/specc'd for each, plus be able to communicate it effectively every time. So basically, bungie are kinda idiots, and pugging just got A LOT harder.

Just hit lvl 25 & it seems I'm getting the rhythm of completing bounties & the daily heroic w/o having PS+. Now that I have an exotic weapon quest with a requirement for strikes, I may have to go with PS+ during Christmas/New Year season.

Overall, I'm still really enjoying the game, even if the story does suck horribly. Bosses really need legendary/exotic loot drops with higher difficulties though.

I don't think it's exploiting anything EA it's in the game....Plus I never got a purple anything from loot cave farming because my level was too low at the time.
Loot Cave farming sure beats running around shooting at monsters who don't give a shit who you are.

Loot cave 4.0 =) Got some Blue drops and greens but only farmed for 45 minutes good way to get Engrams.

That spot has been around since the beginning really. It is a nice spot to get bounties like, "kill 3 enemies with your super 20 time" as the Vex and Cabal are fighting it out in that location. Plus there are 2 PE that spawn around that area, with the chance of a "enemies are forming at your location" style gameplay. Those are my favorite, they are closest thing to horde mode that we have.

I tried that location last night, and it just didn't work that well. In ~30 minutes of mining it, I only received 4 green and 2 blue engrams. It was a nice break from getting clobbered in pvp and a warmup to doing a strike, though.

Yeah the guy in the video embellished greatly on his drop rates. He likely spent ~1.5hrs there to get the loot he had sitting, not 0.5hr.

I'm waiting on a contractor later today so I'm gonna sit and try the spot though, I'm low on credits from stocking up on ammo packs, maybe I'll get lucky.

You should probably just do bounties, daily story, weekly heroic, nightfall/VoG once you get to 26/27... so yea, PS+. Loot caves are so ... not worth it. I have two characters at 28 and I've never done a loot cave beyond 5 minutes of checking out the first one.

I'm going to do my best to hit level 30 before the first expansion is released. :)

I can normally get that just doing patrol missions in Old Russia and constantly moving around. plus I pick up vanguard points as well as public events. Venus works out pretty well to near the Ishtar Archives entrance or the Cinders. tons of mobs there.

I just don't see the point. shoot the same mob over and over again to collect loot to do what with? go run a 15 minute strike, you'll get more drops in those 15 minutes than shooting at a damn spawn point, plus you'll actually be doing something.

there was an idea for a high level patrol missions on the bungie forums, I would love to see that get implemented.

Ideas to get implemented lol. All bungie is doing is gimping the game whenever someone found fun playing it.

Having said that, this is my second release this year where I have gone past the 70+ hour mark. First was Divinity Original Sin. This is about to hit the 100 hour mark soon. I do now only a couple of public events, dailies, weeklies and bounties to get some progress. Raid is out of the question for me unless I get a group going on Fri/Sat (my weekend) which is near impossible since I have to wake up at 4 30 AM to play with guys from America (US/Canada).

Game was fun only because of friends that I made and co-op. Not sure how anyone can enjoy it without PS+ and solo.

Same way I go about it with any other game that has a loot & leveling system. I just keep grinding & stay focused on the goal. I guess each area on each planet/planetoid is large & beautiful enough that I don't feel like I'm going to get bored quickly.

The more they gimp the game the less fun it becomes HEY LOOK WHAT I CAN DO !
All of the sudden Bungie the anti fun maker is takes away the Monkey bars and Swingsett and slides are boxed up and there is no playground to explore the game become stale and lifeless.

The Main problem is the Complainers on the Bungie forums babies get what they want and that is a neutered game.

I tend to agree. I never did much in the way of loot-caving so I figured I'd give it a shot. You're right, you get more drops from doing a PUG strike than you do sitting shooting Vex in the stomach and sniping some legionaries. Which is boring. At least the strike is hard.

I'm just getting REAL tired of getting heavy weapon engrams. I just don't use my heavy weapons enough for that to be useful and the same MG over and over is getting old. At least I get the mats for tearing them down.
I suspect the high level patrol will come with the inevitable addition of Mercury.

How is nuking the loot caves neutering the game? They aren't fun. Neither is glitch-killing and end-raid boss.

SO they are making a game they thought would be groundbreaking and it fell short of everyone's expectations. So they are taking what fun people are having with the game and butchering it up.
Which isn't how a game should be developed.

I think the entire team should spend a few months reading Gamasutra.

So you can go and collect all new sets of armor to get 32 with that set, lol. Just to remind anyone else, getting level 30 is only needed for completionists and getting fully upgraded for VoG Raid on Hard. The Raid gear isn't even more ideal over normal Legendary gear when doing Strikes/PVE stuff.
I am slowly getting my level to 30 just because, all I am missing is Raid boots.

This is what I do. Get my bounties and try to maximize my patrols times to complete 4 or 5 bounties at a time. If I have time, i transfer all my weapons over to my Titan then do it again.
Warlock is 29 and my Titan is 28.
