ps3 year one ring a bell?
You think Nintendo is going away, or the Wii U teletran8? Nintendo is going to do fine. Wii U will probably do at least better than gamecube in its life time.
ps3 year one ring a bell?
ps3 year one ring a bell?
And traditional Nintendo stronghold of handheld market is shrinking fast.
3DS is actually going to sell less in 2013 then it did in 2012 despite Pokemon and MH4 launches.
Nintendo HAS to bring out a different console, they HAVE to kill off the Wii U. They have to follow the path the PS4/XB1 have laid out, because NEVER in the history of game consoles has any console been successful without a presence of 3rd party support has there been? They either drop out and go software only. Or they become a 3rd party multi-platform developer for the PS4/XBOX1, or get out a new more capable console that can make sales. Those are their only 2 options as I see it, because they're getting to that Dreamcast stage where they can't give the console away. Or 3 I do see a massive price drop after Christmas season to encourage sales growth. But if people don't want it, well they just will not buy it no matter the price. I see a 199.99 price in the next 2 months followed by imminent doom because they simply lack games anyone really wants. Notice I said GAMES, plural.
Let me further explain. The original Wii was a competitive console up until some time in 2011. On October 20, 2013 Nintendo confirmed it discontinued production of the Wii in Japan and Europe since there's no demand (or money) in it any longer. Why did the Wii U come out on November 18, 2012 the year after that? Nintendo was no longer making the money they loved making is why.
Now the Wii U has come and gone. (mostly because the PS4/XB1 killed it in a month, but also Ninty didn't listen to 3rd party developers) Plus they haven't made relevant money from a home console since that time, 3 whole years. They have to ride this fail-launch out at least another 6-12 months regardless because of the games in the pipeline, and their foolish pride. Wii U owners will get their MK8,SSBB,B2. And they might be getting a few random sales from Wii U owners on original Wii games in the meantime too, but we're talking in the hundreds to single digit thousands for their old software every week/month. Add in their third party support, which is really close to completely gone, and Nintendo has a recipe for a complete meltdown disaster the likes of Fukushima! If SM3DW can barely hit 1 million after Christmas, those games will tank also. So there's almost NO money in that Wii U machine any longer for Nintendo for 2014 and onwards no matter what happens.
We're moving into 2014 and by the looks of it Wii U will, tank tank tank! No seriously they will! There is no other way to play their hand anymore you think DOnkey Kong+Cranky Kong will sell more than Mario? No way in heck it will do WORSE! Then what wait all Summer for MK8 and all Winter for B2/SSBB/X/Fire Emblem? Think about that lineup, those games plus maybe 1 other surprise announcement game, and a couple of lower quality shovelware to go along with it that will be 2014 for you Wii U owners. That's IT. Those games will sell 500k or less each. While the COD series on PS4/XBOX1 sell more than all Nintendo titles combined. I mean come on! That's the world we are living in...
We covered this.
PS3 outsold Wii U in first year sales by a huge margin, cost two times as much and still saw shortages. It's not something you want to compare the Wii-U too.
Wii U is selling at dreamcast level to reach Gamecube status they would need to double monthly sales.
And traditional Nintendo stronghold of handheld market is shrinking fast.

Wut?!
The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors come together in new Wii U release for 2014

At work right now so can't check myself, but besides the new Zelda game, anything else noteworthy from today's Nintendo Direct broadcast?
The Ps3 never actually saw widespread shortages despite what Sony claimed (Penny Arcade and anyone with a camera took pictures to prove it), and Sony also produced far fewer consoles than Nintendo did.
They had region shortages, and your point doesn't do anything to address my overall comment. In fact your last sentence makes it look worse for Nintendo.
Today's Nintendo Direct tells me the Wii U is not "done".
If Nintendo is screwing up, it's by not hiring the marketing gurus that are telling everyone what's up right here on [H].
Yeah. I can't wait to play Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. Looks great.

Saving the real Ninty Zelda and real Mario Galaxy 3 for the successor to the doomed Wii U? Wut!? Yeah bro I do think that's the plan at Ninty HQ, and lets face it, those games with PS4 level graphics = win. That's where I want to see/play the next Zelda/SMG3 not on the Wii U, sorry if you disagree but the graphics/artwork in SM3DW felt like next gen DS not a next gen home console.
Please stop pretending you are anything except a blind PS4 fanboy that has no fucking clue what he is talking about. As for these game with PS4 graphics? Eh. While some PS4 and XB1 games do look rather good it's not this huge "ZOMG amazing" jump between last gen, right now. Maybe I'm spoiled by the significantly better looking games on the PC but WiiU, PS4, XB1 graphics don't impress me in the slightest and I couldn't give less of a shit what platform a game is on as long as it turns out fun. Slightly better graphics in these games don't effect gameplay so I really do not care.
That's Miyamoto's philosophy, not so much graphics but gameplay mechanics, and he's absolutely a legend because of that philosophy and game output. So what title has Miyamoto worked on lately? Pikmin 3 is the only answer. He is considering retirement currently, possibly 1 more title for the Wii U is rumoured also from him.
But after DKCTF Retro studios should be hard at work with another Metroid for the Wii U going off their prior track record. Unless someone else is taking over the Metroid series for Nintendo, but if DKCTF took this long I'd say new Metroid 2015 at the soonest.
List of games developed by Retro Studios
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Metroid Prime Hunters
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Metroid Prime: Trilogy 2009 Wii
Donkey Kong Country Returns 2010 Wii
Mario Kart 7 2011 3DS
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3DS
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
I like Nintendo I just wish that gameplay mechanics philosophy and PS4 tech philosophy merged, and created a new Nintendo.
where?

Sony expected to sell 6 million units by the fiscal year ending in March 2007. Only 3.68 million were sold, falling short of that mark.
That's fiscal year..... Which amounts to around 4 or possibly 5 months. It's sold double in half the time at two times the cost and never saw the sales crashes the Wii U has seen time and time again.
My point is irrefutable and can not be argued.
Nintendo quite simply can't afford to compete with MS and Sony on a pure tech level. Nintendo has a lot of money sitting in the bank but MS and Sony are both tech empires with multiple sources of revenue to pull from and they can both afford to take losses or barely make a profit on systems. That said, I find it interesting that of the three Nintendo is the only one that you know can weather a system not being this huge mega seller. Sony would be pretty much fucked if the PS4 hadn't done well and MS' entertainment division STILL bleeds money.
no no no....read a little further (I know it's hard but you gotta try)
from said article
Quarter 2 (ending Sep 30, 2007) sales1.31 total at end of quarter 5.63
Bold = me so you would understand the point....
it took 2 years 8 months and 19 days (that's 32.63 months to be exact) for the PS3 to surpass 23.91 million sales.....so that would be a paltry 733K a month lol... it is well known that PS3 sales did not really take off until the console hit $299... as the LARGE CHUNK came after it hit $299....lol....
You and Teletran8 need to quit before you emberrass yourselves any futher.....
oh week to week sales are up for the Wii U yet again.....
With $5+ billion in the bank and less than $2.5 mil in debt, they can afford to compete, but, they wont because they don't have to.
Speaking of embarrass it might help to use spell check and post a rebuttal because nothing you have said changes what I said. You're just side stepping and bringing up a completely different metric to make it seem like you know what you're talking about.
You don't.
You claim sales didn't take off until it hit 299 which is amusing because that is what the Wii U is at and it is STILL well below the sales of the PlayStation 3 at its original price.
Why do you keep trying to compare the Wii U to the PlayStation 3? You're going to get decimated by the facts every single time.
The PS3 was running games with as much graphics in 2006 as your Wii U could handle in 2012 The PS3 also launched with a larger HDD spec than the Wii U. Ouch.
Now YeuEmMaiMai, can you see why, the Wii U is an inferior cheap piece of hardware no one really cares about outside of the base hardcore Nintendo fans?
The PS3's were selling for near 2000.00 on ebay back in the day. Why? Because people actually wanted a next gen console (even back then), with next gen everything. The PS3 outsold the XBOX360 this year. Conversely the original Wii has been discontinued in UK and Japan because it is basically ancient technology now. (Almost 10 years old and had the lowest end hardware quality of all the 6th gen consoles with a kid friendly gimmick controller.)
Why? Because of the technology+games+price. Wii U has nothing in terms of modern technology, it's old tech with another kid friendly gimmicky controller. Most people don't desire an old throwback console with another gimmicky controller like a Wii U is, by today's standards. Most not all, your proof of that. The tablet controller ploy only fooled the hardcore Nintendo fans this gen, everyone else want Next gen graphics with a non-gimmicky controller, more advanced social online, and a wider variety of media apps.
The Wii U has a tablet for a controller and old played out games. No one wants that but the hardcore Nintendo fans that will accept anything Ninty makes available imho. So yeah that explains why the Wii U console was outsold by the PS3 console this year, old gimmicky tech = fails. So the Wii U can't pick up steam because it is already tapped out on what it can bring to the consumer, or else SM3DW would have been native 1080p, but you need a PS4 for that.

The fact that the Ps3 was firmly in third place in total sales this generation?

Global rankings seem to be Wii then PS3 then 360
US rankings seem to be 360 then Wii then PS3
Japan rankings seem to be PS3 then Wii then 360
Europe rankings seem to be PS3 then Wii then 360
I'm not sure it's fair to call a console that's #2 globally and a leader in 2/3* regions "firmly in third". If you only meant the US you should have said so.
(* I'm ignoring the "other" region because I'm lazy)

No, I was actually indicating the sales totals from Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft had reached the 80 million consoles sold mark back in October, and Sony reached the same milestone in November. And considering these numbers are official from the manufacturers, I'm more inclined to believe that.
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-10-18-xbox-360-reaches-80-million-consoles-sold-worldwide
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-06-playstation-3-sales-hit-80-million
Unless Sony sold significantly more PS3s in the last month than Xbox 360s have been sold, I think it's nearly mathematically impossible for Sony to have sold more consoles.
The US matters less and less. Europe has passed us and other nations will as well as a market. Winning the US is like winning the special olympics.
