SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

tommarow we will all know!

if this is another medal of honor situation though I for real will boycott EA with the rest of these bandwagon bitches on Hard

hella bitter i paid 30$ for that shit.

I'm buying it based on how much fun I had with the limited beta. It may not be the best SimCity ever, but the beta was fun for me.

fyi: http://www.polygon.com/game/simcity-2013/2630

I haven't read any of polygon's reviews up until now, so not sure what to make of it.

Thx for heads up. Haven't been able to find a review until now.

Thankfully I think that Polygon is fairly unbiased, given their generally small size.

I think we can trust them based on their review of Crysis 3. A "7" is a very accurate score based on forum posts here.

It’s a joy to see SimCity return in a better form than it has ever been. It is wonderfully complex, but very easy to play. The title is a massive undertaking and it has come together beautifully overall. Hopefully, EA will be able to improve the connected parts of the game, and the experience will become more fun with more players.

Wow, are you serious Ars....I can't recall ever reading any reviews from Ars but if that's how all their articles are "written" then how the hell have they garnered any professional cred?? That "review" is a total phone-in in terms of production and then ultimately its just a huge bitchfest between a couple players on IM. Its a natural mechanic of conversation with people, you start talking about negative aspects and the conversation will stay negative...not at all an unbiased review of a game in my opinion, there definitely seems to be some elitist hate going on here....

The Polygon review seemed a lot better but also swung a bit to the side of over-praise, especially considering the number of connection issues he had over his limited playtime and the need for the game to have an always-on connection.

From my playtime with the game i'd say its worth the money...assuming we don't have too many connection issues, though im willing to work with EA through a few days of growing pains...if I am still have server timeouts by Friday, ill be pissed. EA is a large enough company with enough experience in handling online play that they should be able to properly anticipate/react to excess server loads.

I haven't played SC4 in years but I think SimCity is more of a simplified version of the original SimCity games but for the better. I was never able to build very large cities in previous SC games because I couldn't pay attention to every single detail of every different facet of the game. If SimCity isn't simplified, then they at the very least present all the same information in a much more accessible and easier to understand way.

They specifically state it's not a review but more of a preview of thoughts between the reviewers while playing the game. I'm guessing they posted it to show the general feel of the game as a preview.

i noticed some of the reviewers were still confused by city size, and got to around 35k people filled up the map and moved onto another city instead of actually developing the first city to 200-500k people.

french reviewer gave it a 6.
100 is high, there's still bugs I can visually SEE on reviews screeenshot so right away it shouldn't be that high.

The no SP should remove at least 5-10 pts.

dude, don't even get me started on MOH:W

I think EA would have known early on if SC 5 was going to bomb and we would be seeing some deeper discounts from the get go....

So what is the consensus of where to get SC5 right now?

I'm just gonna wait personally, I'd really rather not buy ANOTHER game (especially if I can't get a good deal on it) at $60. I have too many games...!

Doesn't look like anyone is having a sale at the moment, especially since GMG is a bust, and Amazon is done with their sale.

uh oh....EA had better get this straightened out before launch tomorrow, these issues couple with no pre-load is just asking for trouble...

yeah they are on different servers then we will be at launch though

see the polygon review for more on that

I must have missed that but still, why even put that up. If your critically reviewing a game with a peer, your going to be looking for its downfalls, especially if your both SimCity alumni. I just think its really bad form, very unprofessional in my book.

Amazon says available 12am PST for me. Probably wake up early and download it before work, hopefully servers aren't bogged down.

I'd take tommorrow off work, but have something that needs to get done unfortunately.

Got mine for $40 @ Amazon though. Would cancel if I were paying $60. Found the one beta they gave me a key for quite enjoyable and left me wanting more, so hopefully that holds true.

They listed several things they liked as well. Did you even read the whole thing?

its been confirmed that origin is letting you download and play at 12 EST 9pm PST so unless amazon is late to the party with releasing keys.. everyone else that has it digital will be playing it then.

So you want to be lied to by journalists instead of getting honest opinions from them? You'd prefer it be two people that have never touched a SimCity game to comment/review the game?

Tag for the gnashing of teeth tomorrow for what will be a huge disappointment.

it seemed like one guy had an open mind but the other was a hating fanboy who just raged the whole time. that being said he did have some valid points, but they were playing the beta (i think) so its going to have bugs.

hope to play it soon when its available and if not - I'll just wait longer, its not like the world's going to end, PC games and launch problems are par for the course. I waited nearly a month for Nvidia to fix the snow flickering problem on Assassins Creed and it took EVGA 3 weeks to RMA my video card prior to that.

If you want easy mode then I'm sure there's a stack of xbox's at Best Buy.

hope amazon corrects they shiznips.

After reading around about the game the big problem is going to be when you are hooked up to someone else's city sharing resources and they destroy it. BOOM..your city is fucked.

I started to read it but after its opening negative headline and the ensuing negative comments for maybe 20 lines I just started skimming, all I saw at that point was negative comments through to the end of the comments.

No no, I definitely want an honest opinion but I also want an unbiased, level headed opinion. I dislike reviews from hardcore players of any game, especially if the game being reviewed is a deviation from the formula the hardcore gamer fell in love with. These guys really appear to be the hardcore types and this SimCity is a pretty huge deviation from previous SimCity games and the way the comments come across its, "lets dissect this thing and point out all the shit that we don't like about it because its not like the original one"

Ultimately, its very unprofessional to publish something like this in my opinion. They are comments that should be kept and refined and used as notes for a proper review article. Just my opinion though, we'll see how everything pans out but a 6.5 from Ars and a 9.5 from Polygon is a pretty huge divide...just wait and see how the other review sites rate the game and see where these two extremes fall on the scale.

I personally think it deserves a score on the higher side as I enjoyed the game but its not a 9.5...the always on connection requirement is a huge negative in my book but also not a 6.5...6.5 to me is a fail and I think SimCity will be a successful title.

I have to wonder why is there no pre load? Does EA not understand how much mor eSTRESS that will put on their servers? If it was pre loaded then many people would be done with that huge download and not clogging the servers.

I foresee a bunch of server errors/restarts and downtime for the launch tomorrow.

Also i was able to contact Amazon and get in on the CAGROCKS deal, the CS was extremely nice and after explaining the issue with the code not working I was able to get a $15 credit on my account for simcity and got it pre ordered for 45.

With Ars's complaints, and then the same negitive comments here, I'm not going to bother with this one.
Good review, definitely agree with the worries and concerns that they point out, just have to see how much of an impact its going to have and how quickly EA is able to patch the issues that crop up.

Nice, gives me some comfort in my own pre-order using that promo since a few others had their cancelled. I also feel the cancelled preloading is ridiculous, it really is in their best interest.

Yea doesnt look like from what I can see Amazon will be handing them out until the clock strikes 12 pst. Specifically says it on my games library and email. They wont charge until then and I can still cancel my order up to, dont see them giving me a key before then :(.
