The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

The interaction in GW2 is lame. There's almost no point to be grouped with someone. I think I've grouped twice with someone.

The interaction isn't lame. You don't need to be grouped with someone to interact with them. The only advantage of grouping is to see them on the map and to enter dungeons. You said it yourself; there is normally no point to grouping. But there is still a ton of interaction.

I agree that they ruined this aspect from the first GW game. On one hand I assume they did it because people were tired of waiting in towns spamming LFG in chat to form a group, and to prevent people from leaving a group out of frustration when the group didn't execute a mission well. On the other hand, they've completely eliminated the need a for a group to the point where the world feels a bit lonely with no interaction.

I would generally agree but almost played up 2 characters and I haven't even thought about the fact that I'm not "legit" grouped with people. Dungeons, yes, but everything else is just a co-operative event with other players. I'd gladly trade forced groups with dickwads for the perks of GW2 ala no KSing, spawn camping, fighting over nodes, etc., etc.

I don't really find it to be lonely at all. You're interacting with players constantly out in the world. I think the natural interaction during events and hearts is truly one of the better aspects of GW2. Although this also breaks down when there are too many players. DE's become a competitive AOE tag fest (i.e. Orr).

For Dungeons, it's the opposite. With no LFG tool, it's just a pain to teleport around spamming different maps trying to find players. The waypoint fees are not friendly in this manner at all.

ok I got talked into trying the game with some friends.

best first chr?
is there gathering skills and which ones to get.
crafting and what to make?

my God I just found out that egg now ships usps...please hurry I only have a week to get info LOL

what about this comment????
netted you 2/3rd-3/4ths XP of your current level bar before the last patch yesterday

are they already nerfing everything?

I play gw1 and quit because of the needless nerfs EVERY week

-The one you like.
-Gathering is not a skill, you just equip the gathering items and go gather.
-Craft whatever you want. You can change your crafting profession at any time (keep 2 at a time, but change them at will for a fee). Be warned that crafting for profit is largely not going to happen due to the trading post. It's a source of fast exp. Be prepared to either grind the mats or buy the mats from the trading post. Two max level crafting professions are required for legendaries but I wouldn't worry about that at all while leveling (or ever).

That's probably a comment about repeatedly running the same dungeon since they give a ton of exp for completion. I wouldn't worry about it.

But yes, they are nerfing things in a "we want you to play this way, but no one finds it fun... so we're going to nerf what people are actually doing to try to force people to have fun".

Or as I like to describe it... taking a shit on the content that people are doing doesn't make the lesser played content less shit-stained. It just makes it so everything is now shit stained.

I'm just a little cynical right now because I find it hard to believe that Anet is too dumb to properly design Karma / WvW Badge / Dungeon Token systems. Part of me really wishes it's not just because of transmutation purposes (i.e. they want gear to be a 2 step process just so they can sell transmutation stones).

its almost like I remember from GW1.
the lady and the frog.
Lying every week and saying its good.
The day they nerfed the ele class into the ground with one action and saying it will be fun.
Nerfing ANY build that worked and then changing drops and calling it diminishing returns.
So each time you found a good item you had 50% less change to find another until it was 0% chance.
Sounds like they haven't changed at all.
Now I am sorry I purchased it.

With the free to play model, they said the primary goal was to make the game fun to play. That does not really seem to be the goal with the nerfs and focus on outright grind...I loved the game initially, too. WvW is a LOT of fun, when you can get in.

Seems like their goal is to force ppl to their cash shop. Oh well, still enjoying it so far at level 25.

Does anyone know what the lowest specc'd system that could run this game decently at 1080p might be? Obviously the requirements tell you one thing but usually trying to play on the lowest listed hardware is an exercise in frustration. Trying to put together a super cheap rig for my friend who really wants to play, but his only PC is a netbook right now. His budget is small but I think it can be done. He already has a 22" 1080p monitor/TV that he uses with HDMI, so it would look best at that resolution.

I run it on medium/high with an old q6600 and 4870.

To get what? Cooking outfits? Nothing on the cash shop is terribly good.

Well, if you haven't noticed it, the end-game reward system is oddly specific in terms of trying to divorce looks from stats. Is there any good reason why not all stat combinations are available with each "end game" reward system? Ever took one look at the Orr Karma rewards and realize they're garbage? Reskinning gear is sort of the backbone from which I assume they're going to try to sell transmutation stones. But I think it's simply created some very unrewarding systems in the game right now (i.e. Karma is useless to me. Dungeon tokens are inexplicably poorly designed, WvWvW badges are much the same).

HOWEVER. +1 for Anet on this quote from them. Seems they have now officially acknowledged the poor dungeon system.

we’re very aware that our reward system is not up to par for dungeons. It is something we are actively working on right now, to try and find a solution for. I’m not going to talk about what our plans are because I don’t want us to be trapped in promises, but I will say this: We know, and are actively working on updating the system.

Yeah, I find myself transmuting almost everything, and I've noticed the starter gear actually looks the coolest most of the time. Good thing I have a nearly unlimited supply of both basic and fine stones from the zillions of black lion chests I find.

I've been having a blast, but I'm terribly indecisive about a class. I think I've finally settled on Ranger as a favorite though. It's the first one where I feel like I can really take on packs of mobs pretty handily with axe/torch, and swap to longbow for single targets.

the trading post was down, and didn't work for a lot of ppl the last two days.

Right now the prices are out of whack (up to 20copper diff) on a lot of commodity items. If anyone is looking to make some quick money, they should invest now. Prices are unbelievably low and will surely rise and correct itself soon

Wait, you bought the game (?)...asked questions that can be quickly answered by just doing a google search or going to the website and then just jump to the conclusion just like that? Less than 5 hours later?

The thing is, even when there's 10 people on the screen with me, I have no reason to talk to them. If we were in a party, you would be more likely to talk to them. At least it was that way for me in the original. I rarely ever see anyone talking in GW 2, ever.

I'm 100% confident that I won't play GW 2 as long as I did GW. They've simply changed too much. Sure its a fun game and a time sink, and sure its still well worth the money I paid for it with no subscription, but they took everything people loved about the original and threw it away, then gave everyone new things they didn't want or ask for. There's a great thread on the GW 2 Guru forums asking veteran GW players how they feel about GW2, its actually quite sad because I agree with a lot of the criticism coming from GW, a game which I loved like no other. One guy even summed it best for me and said that the original GW will always have a special place in his heart which no other game will replace. I feel that way too. About the only thing that carried over from the original GW is the lore, everything else is a different game entirely. I feel that Anet was trying too hard to chase the cash cow WoW players and give them more of what they wanted to lure them away. In the process they destroyed every original game concept that the original GW offered, many of which were loved dearly by veteran players.

I'll still play GW 2, I still enjoy it, but its not what I had hoped for after the original and I crave more of the original GW with updated graphics and expansions. The original GW was a superior game in every way for me other than graphically.

I agree with this. It's less of an indictment of GW2 and more praise for GW1. I like GW2 and all, but GW1 was simply a better game.

I said "Robble robble" to a certain Lord Hamburglar. I received no response :(

Well, maybe you should start the talking :) This is also true in real life.

Personally, I rarely grouped in GW1. There was no need with henchmen + heroes.

In a different light, I'm 100% confident I don't have nearly as much time to devote to any game now that I'm not in school. Sadly, I don't think I'll spend as much time on any game as I did with WoW in terms of raw hours. But WoW is definitely not on my list of best games I've played.

i prefer to talk to random people. i chat random people in game all the time and end up forming a party usually, and making new friends to do quests/objectives with later.

I also love showing people the three jump challenges in lions arch because thoses 3 chests always scale with your level, unlike other jump challenges that give you items based on the level of the map area.

So many people are thankful after i show them the three jumps in lions arch. I love the feeling of someone being happier that now they have 3 chests a day to get (that scale to their level) in 15 minutes or so.

I also give away crafting items of the crafts i dont use. Many times the people send me crafting items for my trades. Its win win being nice :)

Some people may think thats stupid, that i should just sell everything, but part of the fun to me is talking to others and helping them if possible.

YMMV :)

To any of you guys making serious coin out there...I've managed to save up almost 20g, what would be some good ways to take this amount of money and turn it into a whole lot more ? PS - the money made has been through dungeon runs and item/crafting mat sales. I have no maxed professions besides Cooking.

Weird question. GW2 is working fine on my desktop, though I've kept pretty up to date on updates/patches. My laptop is a few behind however, and it won't connect to download to patch for some reason. Anyone know why?

Playing the TP. That's really about it.

Also the Mac client is pretty awesome. Was able to play on my work laptop.

OSX 10.7.4
2Ghz i7
8GB Ram
Radeon HD 6490M 256mb

Had to run all settings on low but was at a good 25-27 fps most of the time.

Any particular types of items that seem to be hot and easy to sell for higher amounts of coinage? I'm not trying to buy and sell my way through making 1-2 silver at a time, I can just keep doing what I'm doing and make gold faster than that.

Either you corner the market on a very niche item (dyes for example but even those are falling in price...)

Or volume.

No real easy way to say turn 20G into 40G.

If you're up on the latest info, you could try to take advantage of certain items whenever new info comes out.

For example, they recently restricted free server transfers to once per 24 hours to stop "WvW exploits". The side effect is that Orichalcum ore will go up in price. Unfortunately I'm at work so I can't check the market for Orichalcum. Based on this info, you could buy up as much Orichalcum as you can and sell it later at a higher price since the supply will diminish severely with the lack of free server transfers.

Lol I have been selling the rare dye's for about 10-20S...what is funny though, is that I looked at my account, and I had the rare black dye already unlocked...I must have gotten it when I first started the game! haha...

Anyone else just get the boot and unable to log back in?

Walked into the portal to Divinity's Reach andn *POOF*.
