Sleeping Dogs

GOTY for me too so far, but there is new Hitman coming in a few :) And I like the ending cutscene... At least SE didnt pull the stupid "hero must heroically die" like ME3 did :), though till last moment, I couldn't guess the details of ending, which was great.

And other funny things that SE took the ip, that Kotick killed, and turned into profit and made a great game. See, Activision, some other games that cloned CoDs are selling :)

I honestly have no complaints about the game except that I wish it could just keep on going. :)

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of DLC they come up with for this.

Game is unbelievably good.

Been on a bender playing for the last 4 days.

SOOOO much fun. :D

Man, some of those drug busts are crazy. Just did one with 15 thugs, all armed with cleavers and knives. Luckily I was in the car and just mowed them all down - I don't know how you are supposed to be able to do that on foot.

The Dim Mak counter pretty much make you impervious.
just earned the move last night. That is a pretty awesome move. Are the in game statistics working correctly? I'm pretty sure that I'm more than 30% through the story at this point. My Police and Triad levels are 7 and 8 respectively.

I'm all maxed out. Wei's a friggin' beast. That's all there is to it. :)

Depending on my mood:

I would deliberately get in a mess with a cop to get a gun and do a lot of headshots. Tricky, but do-able. Once you escape the cops you come back and get it done.

The more advanced melee moves make it a lot easier, too. Just go for a lot of environment kills, counters, slamming against objects.

If you have a car, definitely use it and run people down. That's the easiest way by far.

I like to thin out the herd using a car and then take out whomever is left over. I'm not bored with fighting yet so taking them all on isn't a big deal for me, it just takes a while when I have to break combos to counter attacks or deal with those grab happy thugs.

Idk I found the game very easy combat wise, just have to time everything right, use the environment for as many quick-kills as possible, and staying away from the fat asses. Becomes a dance at some point too, when you're hopping over people and beating the shit out of them.

The only hard time with combat is later when people swing weapons multiple times, quickly, at you. It's hard to time the second strike, countering the first will just dodge it, then they'll immediately sw ing again.

Wei is more or less an unstoppable monster near the end who is more than capable of fighting out of 20 on 1 melees.

well i beat the main game. it was fun. the fighting system is a pattern keep punching and when you see a person red, do the mouse2 button.

however i liked the inital d style race mission

Beat it as well, GOTY candidate easily.

Ending got a little Hong Kong Triad ridiculous but nothing remotely close to ME3s terrible ending. Loved it.

I really wish they would have put the mouse fixes in at launch, rather than after I finished the game....

Either way I got 31 hours of play out of it for $36 and enjoyed myself; best soundtrack from a game in a while.

Can someone tell me how to get SLI working in this thing? I got the latest 306 drivers.

Do you guys recommend m+k or a gamepad? Seems like GTA IV was better with a gamepad.

I tried k/m vs gamepad....for me, game pad was easier, more seamless, generally better control, especially in fist fights and driving. That's one of those game that totally justify buying x360 pad for pc :)

Especially post patch KBM is just fine for me but you win either way. Up to you.

I thought it was fine pre-patch too heh, using KB+M here. I beat the game btw, thought it was excellent. May even replay it when I get more free time.

I did fine with KBM from day one as well. The patch just made it even better.

I'm eager to see what kind of DLC and additional content is going to come out for this thing. I hope they support the hell out of it because there's TONS of potential and mileage left here.

Played the demo last night. I'm pretty disappointed with it, actually. I know it's just a demo, but I don't get that open-world feeling like in GTA IV. It seems like an on-rails game akin to Call of Duty and that ilk.

Also, the Eyefinity support is pretty piss-poor. I get all claustrophobic with the POV.

The controls are pretty horrible for mouse and keyboard. It's like the Batman games gone wrong.

Again, this is just the demo...I had such high hopes...am I all wrong or is this how the retail version is?

I'm starting this game and while it is fun, the controls really make me wanna slap the dev's. The bolded area is exactly how I feel about it. The mouse sensitivity is way too high and I spend most of my time fighting the frakking camera than any bad guys.

I've been playing games with a KB/M as long as there have been games available for the PC and I didn't even try to use it with this game. The controls are spot on for the gamepad.

sizzlemeister, it was pointed out early in the thread that the demo keeps you focused. The game is as open world as any of the GTA games I've played in recent years. I feel that this is a safe purchase.

Somehow I managed to not save my progress the other night or something corrupted my save, so I ended up at the Impress Not Ping mission. Luckily I had a save from a few hours prior to going to bed, so I just said "Oh well...", replayed an entire Triad and Police mission, and traveled to the dojo to earn the Dim Mak move AGAIN in order to get back on track. I was still having fun and not raging at the fact that I lost my save and had to spend quite some time playing through those missions again. Awesome.

However, I was too tired to finish the game last night. I saved the last few bits for tonight. Teng isn't offering anymore missions and shit is out of control with Big Smile Lee (I really hope I get to kill that cocksucker), so I think I'm near the very end. I really hope they release some good DLC adding a few more hours of new gameplay. I'll buy it, and I never buy DLC. If it didn't come as part of the package, I don't bother with it.

I've been using gamepad for driving and melee combat, and then switching to mouse and keyboard for gun fights. I can't stand aiming with the gamepad.

Funny moment last night. I was getting one of those health statues, and while I was running over to it a woman walked up to it and did the same praying motion Wei does when he uses it. Then as she walked away she was coughing like she was sick. I thought it was a nice touch.

Lots of countering!

Have unlocked all of the achievements and have all of the collectables now! Took me 40 hours in total. Such a great game...

Never thought I'd ever say this about a game but am actually looking forward to the DLC lol

Once you get all collectibles and finish the game, is there anything left to do?

You can win all the races and do some other stuff but at some point, yes, you do run out of things to do. Unfortunately.

GTA was the same way so it's not that big of a deal. Then again, in SR3 I got bored of doing the same missions over and over so I'm not sure there's much to be done to extend gameplay other than legitimate DLC/expansion packs with more content.

I love how the instructor at the kung-fu place doesn't give a shit that I just BROKE A STUDENT'S FUCKING ARM right after smashing another's head into the wall 3 times. I left covered in blood.

That's a hell of a teaching method.

I was on the fence on this game but now after reading this I am buying this today. Thanks!

what i didnt like in GTA , it was the lack of focus on the story , you could get lost in sidemissions FOREVER. WIch isnt a bad thing , but for me i prefered the more focused story sleeping dogs is offering.

The size of the city is also just right , no 25 minutes drives... and when im really lazy, i use a taxi :D

I found that I used taxis quite a bit when I was on the other side of the entire city from a mission I wanted to do. Saved a lot of time. Handy.

I've never used a taxi but based on your posts I'm guessing it teleports you over to the other side? If so, I should do that more often...

It doesn't give you "pick anywhere you want" service. Only missions and parking garages but that's plenty handy enough since you can be anywhere on the map and choose any mission or parking garage location to save a ton of time.

Downloading the High-Res texture as we speak, haven't started playing yet but I've been watching this game closely a month before it was released, hopefully for $23.00 that I paid the game is worth it and a GTA IV contender as its still one of my favourite when it comes to free roaming sandbox games.

I just downloaded the game from Steam. I got a free copy since I just bought a Saphire 7950.

I haven't played it yet, still building my new system.

But where do you get the high res texture pack from?

Right click on the game in your games via steam, click DLC tab and view available DLC for this game. Steam browser will open and the first link is Free High Res Texture pack - click to download for free.

Then enable it in-game.

Ok so far, 2 hrs of gameplay, I can see myself enjoying the storyline gameplay, but free roaming wise GTA still takes the cake, absolutely hate the lock on camera while driving and unable to change radio stations.

You can change the stations. On the gamepad it is the D-pad, for keyboard it is the arrow keys.

The story seems fun so far, but free roam is weaker then GTA. The city is small. Compared to GTA its very small. And much of it is non-accessible - GTA if you can see it, you can access it.
The parkour thing is neat, but it doesnt work everywhere, only in parkour specific areas.

Its fine, but GTA is still in a class all on its own.

I guess I am getting old and cranky. I downloaded the demo, and immediately got annoyed at the "you got 10 seconds to chase this guy down while you try learn the controls." - uninstalled.
