Sleeping Dogs

I love how the instructor at the kung-fu place doesn't give a shit that I just BROKE A STUDENT'S FUCKING ARM right after smashing another's head into the wall 3 times. I left covered in blood.

That's a hell of a teaching method.

I'm lovin this game. There's a jade statue and the temple thingy right in the middle of Central i think. I've been trying to reach it for like an hour now lol. You climb up all the construction boxes but then reach a dead end. It's driving me crazy :mad::mad:

If you write about that statue that is in condo, it's available only during one of the main plot missions. You can't get it other way.

I'm on a mission where I have to pick a door lock and for the life of me cannot do it. Is there any secret to this? BTW probably everyone already knows this but you can make quick cash running over parking meters :)

Just started playing it last night -- fun game, looks amazing. I'm getting a stuttering issue it seems though.

And I ran into a weird bug - right in the first 5 minutes of the game when I'm being chased with the dope, following my friend free running, half way through he stops in the fish market area and just stands there. The game keeps telling me to follow him, if you just ignore him and keep free running you get past the bugged area and things run smooth from there on out (so far).

I'm running a 4.5 Ghz i5, 6970+6950 2GB video card, 16GB of ram... v12.8 ATI driver.

Just installed the driver last night, will try again today after work.

Figured out the lock picking. Don't use the mouse use the wasd keys. Strange how it shows to move the mouse :(

Yeah I noticed that too, got frustrated, then accidentally pushed the left arrow key and it worked. Smooth sailing from there.

Lolol, I noticed that too, especially when you get the leg break move, and you're breaking all his students legs, he's just like: "Good job, Wei.".

As thorough as I was I missed one statue. No idea where or how since I did every mission and side mission and never rushed. *shrugs* Oh well.

Ya know, after dating first girlfirend you have the option to see all the uncollected collectables on the map. Just press "X" on the gamepad, and the map will switch to show you the things you collected and you didn't.... you can even set GPS to guide you to shrine/statue/camera ;)

Ah! :)

Not sure why I didn't mention that when you said you were missing a statue! I remember that after you do the Amanda mission, you can call her, then go back and do another Karaoke song, and afterwards, in the "rewards" section at top left it'll say something like "All Jade Statue Locations unlocked".

Getting some stuttering on my rig as well...Tried turning down the AA but didn't really make a difference. What other options might be causing it? My system shouldn't have a problem running this game.

Good to know about the collectables map, too. There seems to be quite a few of them.

This game is just too freaking awesome! I skipped a few pages of posts and started reading after #120 or so and noticed that no one has mentioned how awesome the music is in this game. WTF? The music is AWESOME! There seems to be a fair amount of tracks included and it's all high quality!

When the kids go to bed tonight, I'll be downstairs in the man cave playing this game. Has anyone tried the 3D mode? I've been too lazy to give it a shot, the game is too much fun as is.

Another interesting thing about this game is that when the frame rate dips, you can still enjoy the game! Sure, you'll notice that you aren't even in the 30's but it's not a hitching mess like most games when you aren't playing at an optimal frame rate. I'm playing this on a ATI 7970 stock card and there are a few areas in the city that causes my rig to struggle a bit, but like I said, it's still playable.

I've been playing with an Xbox 360 controller and I think the controls are f'ing FANTASTIC. I'm a KB/M fan myself but I don't see the use case for it in this game, gamepad all the way.

I had no idea that this game even existed until I saw the [H] front page post regarding the demo. Thank you Steve for posting that! Such a wonderful surprise for me. TSW is on hold until I finish this game or I have enough time to play a few hours of both, which is hardly ever the case, so most if not all of my quality free time will be spent having fun with SD.

I just realized that I had my CPU clocked at 3.5GHz -- (i5) I'm normally running at 4.5 -- I will try this tonight and see if I get any improvement in the stuttering.

No clue how cpu intensive this game is - maybe an extra 4Ghz worth of combined horsepower will smooth things out.

SSAO and shadows at extreme settings = rape. AA you probably can max out. World Density I was able to max out, too. Take shadows and SSAO down to normal and you'll probably be in good shape. In my case I turned off vsync and didn't use the FPS limiter.

I'm not using the SSAO, cause I honestly can't tell a friggin' difference, but with everything else as high as it can go (no AA, can't tell difference between the settings...), I'm getting ultra high framerates, too smooth to care haha.

I'll try that, thanks. TBH the shadows don't even look that good at High so I'm not sure why they are raping framerate. I know that SSAO can do that for sure though, so I'll cut that down.

I have Vsync on but a global frame limiter of 57 or 58 FPS in the nVidia drivers, so that should be fine. Works fine with every other game I've played.

9 out of 10 times in a lot of these games if I need to get some performance back fast, shadows is far and away the easiest setting to toggle down.

In this game, it's a huge law of diminishing returns at High. SSAO at Extreme is rape, too, although I'm sure it looks sweet. I enjoyed what I saw during the brief slide show I had when I tried SSAO at Extreme. ;)

Cool.

Don't forget! High res texture pack everyone! Does NOT rape performance. Mandatory!

Anyone else get any stuttering when moving side to side? It's fine when moving forward, but if I strafe back and forth (like dodging people while running) it hitches. I've tried it with and without Vsync, and with and without the FPS limiter (I get 70+ FPS without both), and it still happens. Do I just need to live with it?

Take photos with Amanda for the health statue locations on the mini map perk.

Meet Tiffany at Club Bam Bam and sing Karaoke with her for the jade statues visible on mini map perk.

Impress Not Ping by distracting a cop and hacking a camera for the lock box visible on mini map perk.

What do you guys think about the music?

Started playing the game tonight, so far so good. Only thing I dislike at the moment is the handling of the character, reminds me of Spec Ops.

Not ping shows camera on the map not lockboxes.

I believe lock boxes are the Russian chick, Llyana (the one you have to freerun with, then help find her friend) who you meet at k-bar later on in the game through a story mission.

Tried this, seems to work a lot better now. I still get some weird stutter when driving down alleyways sometimes (certain ones, not sure why), but overall performance is a lot better and I can't really even notice a graphical difference.

What do you guys think about the music?

Music is perfect... Softly Radio is my favourite station, also shooting bad guys in rythm of "Fur Elise" is classic ;)

Would love Square Enix to sell soundtrack for the game, would be day 1 purchase.

I stand corrected! Cool, I get to hook up with a russian chick! I did those other three missions last night while a bit intoxicated so that was what I remembered. hehe.

Game is awesome, but it makes me fucking RAAAGGGEEE when you are shooting from a car that is not controlled by you and the AI driver goes full retard and gets stuck, causing your car to get shot to death.

never happened to me... what mission?

GOt finally all the shrines, had only problems with one on top in buildings in port of Aberdeen, luckily figured out to jump to the roof from nearest ship ;)

And as far as story goes, I really like how you feel Wei dillema - your police bossess are muppets who have no idea on the dangers you take, and chooices you have to face. Then you have people in Sun On Yee, who take care of you and think of you like part of family.

One thing more.... please, no more games and books with "Red Wedding" it was only fun in Game of Thrones books ;P

I like that too, the dilemma of being caught between sides, unsure of what the best decision is any given moment.

On a side note, Mrs. Chu is FUCKED up haha.

never happened to me... what mission?

The mission where you throw Dogeyes into the truck of the car and Duke (?) drives you to the restaurant. First time I tried it he ran into a truck on the freeway offramp, got impossibly stuck, and then we got swarmed by 3+ enemy cars and blown up. Had to redo the whole chase.

Second time I tried it, he went flying off the road and into the air, but luckily we landed upright and on the road. Damn near flipped the car completely and ran into a guard rail

It's not the end of the world but it was one of those situations where I yelled at the game because it was entirely out of my control. I've also encountered other glitches/whatever in the game that have caused me to have to redo missions due to AI or game mechanic stupidity.

Don't say anything more!!! :D

I haven't been so engrossed in a game like this since Mass Effect 3. I thought Max Payne 3 would do this for me, but it never happened and is now taking up space on my SSD while I play SD.

It's pretty incredible how immersed I am in this game too.

It has a weird (not bad, but kinda weird) feeling to me overall. It's kinda like GTA mixed with Saints Row in a way. Like, the gameplay mechanics seem pretty arcade-y a lot of the time, but the story is pretty serious.

I really like the way gunfighting from cars is handled, and the melee system is pretty good as well.

Agreed, although the regular gun fights are pretty shitty to be honest.

I felt like the game had a bit of Just Cause 2 in it as well. Getting into cars reminded me of it because he gets in the car so damn fast :D

You can get a Just Cause 2 outfit that makes attaching to cars even better ;)

I told you that you wouldn't be disappointed. ;)

Yep, it's nice to see, that when lots of people say that there are no fun games anymore, pearl like that show up and is pretty decent ported, with good graphics and control system.

Things like Mass Effect 3 or TOR, which were hyped beyond everything, do not deliver, and a game that no one really cared about and no one really suspected that it will prove that damn good. It's not revolution - everything we see in it was in other games, but putting all those elements together and not messing them up is very good job of devs and publishers. If you can't make revolutionary game, at least make your game fun to play, and we will buy it, and spread word about it.

I think I could even get some DLC for this game, if they will be more then car or clothes pack.
I also want part 2.... Sleeping Dogs: Shanghai :)

I also wonder, how this game will affect GTA 5..... Rockstar people would be mad, if they would see opinions like "GTA is okay, but nowhere as good as Sleeping Dogs" :)
