My "sucky" EK block keeps my 7970 at about 40c under 100% load and allows a 1200/1800 OC at stock volts. It's not all about looks. 
Even if it we're.. how much of a GPU block do you actually see when it's mounted anyway? Just the top edge usually.

Actually EK GPU blocks work pretty nicely, though I prefer the Swiftech pin matrix (like found in the evga hydro copper blocks), but, with a card like the Lightning, not everyone is going to make a water block for it. EK makes a block for almost any card ever made it seems .

As somebody who likes to sleep with waterblocks, I prefer my waterblocks to be as attractive as possible.
Please let me know if anybody knows where I can find blonde wigs that fit waterblocks.

MY SUCKY EK BLOCK on my 6990 allows me to run wide open 99% on both GPU at a whopping 136F. And idles at room temp.
But they suck. I would love to have that card and all those beautiful display port connectors.
You people that want all these outdated gay ass DVI ports, your day is long gone. Get with the new DisplayP Connector that can pass audio and daisy chain multiple LCDs off of one port.

Until the nickel flakes and EK tells you to go fuck yourself for using distilled water instead of their overpriced coolant... Yeah, too bad their "EN" blocks didn't completely fix the problem either and they tried extorting $$$ from retailers like Sidewinder for accepting customers' faulty blocks and sending them back.

DP is nice, but I'm not buying all new monitors or using converters when DVI still performs just as well.
VGA on the other hand needs to go the way of the dodo.

I like DP, I can deal with adapters. I like how small you can make the ports and fit alot of them on a card.
I sincerely hope this card is not more than $550.00. Seeing that prices on 7900 series was just lowered.
Wiki dispaly port. It can do it but no one sells hubs yet but they are coming because VGA and DVI are phasing out.

Will probably be cheaper (by $100+) to just buy a better waterblock from a reliable company with a good reputation and decent quality manufacturing processes and stick it on yourself.
It also wouldn't be so...ugly and cheap looking.

That logic is actually flawed. A lot of people save until they can afford the best some where. I bought a $500 GPU, but the rest of my components (at the time) were less that $200 a piece. The most expensive after that was the cpu which was a e8400.
Point is, people can spend a lot of money where it counts and then be frugal else where. It what I've done, because I work at taco bell and 19 and have expensive hobbies.
The problem is you need a $100 adapter for dual link DVI. The card already has single link, but not dual link :/
Wow that is just impressive what they said about EK.
I am going to say I have heard enough negative about EK that I think I am going ALL SWIFTECH forever.
GABE @ SwTech is freaking amazing and his customer service is awesome and his engineering skills are second to none.

You have fun tossing out thousand dollar monitors so you can be on the "new connector" because of how you feel about the prior but fully functional old one. The rest of us will LOL when there is no dvi dual-link connector when it is by far and away the most prevalent connection currently. We will just buy something that actually works for us.

If you can, check out Watercool and Aquacomputer parts too. If you want the best fit, finish and design those are much better than Swiftech. Don't get me wrong though, Swiftech is a good middle tier brand with great performance to price.

Your logic is flawed. Why don't I start complaining I can't fit a 3930k into my RF3 mobo?
...It's $20. It progresses the change over into smaller, more practical ports with a potentially higher bandwidth giving more room for cooling. You could fit a four full size ports on a dual slot cart and still have room for a full slot vent. Dvi is a waste of space.
Stop delaying progress with complaints.
What? I don't even... Nearly all graphics cards have dual link dvi and dp converts natively to it. The pins are interchangeable.
Hm? Displayport is a completely different packet based signal versus DVI/HDMI.
Except for this card, it has two single link DVI's. Just like the original Lightning 7970, which is it's major fail.

Bring on dp! Highest signal bandwidth, small port/connector and royalty free without heaps of revisions like hdmi. I watercool, but it would be handy to have more space for people with air cooled cards.

DisplayPort has the ability to carry dvi/hdmi signals natively out it's pins, but still require TMDS clocks to do so. Otherwise it will use its packet based protocol.
The standard allows for it, but manufacturers don't do it. You again will need two TMDS Clock generators to use DL.

If you own thousands (multiple thousands according to you) you can certainly afford a couple of these ...
Though I do understand the added expenses are not necessarily convientient but we need to get to a point where these DVI and VGA ports are all but history in a Wiki website. Display Port is the next future do it all display connector and it is superior to HDMI.
