Yup. Right after the new full cover blocks for them...
yay! got tracking number
Would love to get me an EK full waterblock. I bet it's going to be $100+ though.
Not all that bad, only $50 more than the "Black" edition card and then it would be watercooled.

ekwaterblocks website said:Overclocking the graphics card from factory set 925/1375MHz to 1125/1500MHz (GPU/RAM respectively) and Vgpu set at 1.250V - the limit of our overclocking software - yielded similiar result:
Tgpumax = 42°C
Th2omax = 31.1°C
From what I've been reading, you're right in saying XFX isn't what is used to be (warranty-wise). This is what I found on the xfx website:
The following Graphics Cards are eligible for an extension of the standard two-year limited hardware warranty:
1. XFX Radeon HD 7000 Series Dual Fan (Double Dissipation Edition) Graphics Cards with Ghost Technology; a floating cover design that maximizes airflow by creating exceptional venting throughout the card.
2. XFX Radeon HD 7000 Series Graphics Cards with 10-digit model numbers ending in R (example: FX-797A-TDFR)
So it seems the XFX 7970 models with the dual fan design are covered by a lifetime warranty, but it seems that the transferability of the lifetime warranty no longer applies...
I actually called XFX and inquired about their warranty. Looks like the core version and non-Black/DD will be 2 years only. Is Visiontek still lifetime?
Yeah, I ordered a vanilla XFX as well. Doubt I'll still be using the card in two years, at least in my main rig... but oh well. Too late to worry about it now.WTF! really? Thats what I get for not checking what im buying. I cant cancel my order now. Well that truly sucks.
The limited hardware warranty for Graphics Cards lasts for a time period of two years.

4. XFX GeForce GT 520, GT 430, 200, 9000, 8000, 7000, 6000 Series Graphics Cards purchased after April 17, 2007.
If you register any of the specified products noted above online at http://www.xfxforce.com/ within 30 days of purchase, your limited warranty will be EXTENDED for the duration of your life. Registration within 30 days of the date of purchase is a condition precedent to receiving the lifetime warranty.***
The limited hardware warranty on all XFX-branded products begins on the date of the packing slip, invoice, or receipt. A copy of the dated original invoice/receipt must be submitted to verify warranty repair or replacement. In circumstances where the transaction record is not available or reasonably verifiable (based on date of manufacture), the warranty period shall begin on the date of manufacture of the product.

Hmm, thought I got the Double Lifetime warranty for that $10 premium. Oh well, at least the name XFX sounds cool.
Looks like they still have the VisionTek? Based on what I found on Google, I kind of felt better about ordering the XFX... but in hindsight the longer warranty sounds nice.Same. I called tigerdirect to change my XFX into something else, and they dont have any stock lol on anything else.
Sorry, fanspeed at 1.3v 1244mhz core was 60% and 65c while playing BF3. I have it on an auto profile. 1200mhz clock was at 55% 60c
This 7970 reference cooler is MUCH better than the 6970. Night and day actually. At 1.3v, I had to run 100% just to keep it at 80c.

EDIT: The other thing that put me off the VisionTek was the very strict return policy. Didn't see that with the XFX.
I think the early adoption hysteria is drying up. Newegg still has 7970's for sale. You think Newegg has sold more than a thousand cards? When you consider the size of the US, that isn't very much.
According to what I'm reading you don't have the option of returning it at all, only exchanging it for an identical card if defective, and only with the manufacturer's approval. Not a huge deal considering I don't plan on returning it anyway, but it's nice to know you can, especially if you get a defective part and their supply is all dried up (figuring exchanges are probably easier than RMAs).Well I ordered the visiontek and canceled the XFX. 2 year warranty I dont like. What is so strict about the visiontek? Im way too impulsive right now. I wish MSI offered some cards.
The 7970's are all out of stock on Newegg including the Diamond brand. Also the number of people buying $550 video cards accounts for a fraction of a fraction of consumers buying video cards which then accounts for another fraction of computer owners that actually have something other than an OEM PC.
They are making at least $100 profit per card @ $550. So, 1000 cards = $100,000 profit.
They have a vendor account with Fedex / UPS along with others meaning they pay 1/3 of what the general public pays due to their immense volume. So the nearly $8.00 per card covers their labor, energy costs and materials. With Newegg and anyone else in the parts / electronics business, margins are always going to be small. The more efficient you are, the greater amount of those small margins you get to keep. Some items, like $550 video cards do have higher margins ( greater incentive ) to offset the risks of stocking such expensive items.
Up and running on my Asus 7970 Going to test it out.
What are you guys waiting for?! For your 7970 to actually arrive?
List your old cards in the FS section so I can buy your nasty outdated 6970s
You think AMD is dumb enough to use really cheap TIM on these cards to make it worth while to disassemble and re-apply? Or do you think the application of the TIM could be better? Would be interesting to see temp results of before and after.

Unless something is screwed up with their site, some still in stock.
I got my self into a stupid place.
Ordered XFX 7970 from newegg it arrives 1/12/2010
ordered visiontek 7970 from tigerdirect (I got 44 cash back with with creditcard/fatwallet)
Feel stupid that I was so impulsive. I wish MSI had a card out. I like them a lot.
sounds like you got yourself into an AWESOME place
I just bought a diamond 7970, probably too expensive, but I need to spoil myself on occasion
I had a xfx 6970, but returned it due to the whole using cheap components thing. Have been using my xfx 9800gtx in the mean time, but bf3 has black triangles all over the place. (I started talking to xfx support to see if they would rma it, so far they have been going in circles with me since last month. -- The last email they asked for the temps of the card after giving that info to them weeks ago
XFX is not what it used to be, supposedly the 7970 non black edition doesnt have a lifetime warranty.
sounds like you got yourself into an AWESOME place
Haha, nicely played.
