7970 Purchasing Thread

When I replaced my TIM on my HD 5970 it made a difference of 5 degrees on furmark ( I used MX-3 on that one). I will be replacing the TIM on both my 7970s when I get back from work. Also I don't want to make people paranoid. But on my EVGA GTX 280 FTW edition, the screws on the backplate were loose and I did replace the TIM. I don't don't know why the TIM was all over the GPU, spilling to some extent, to the PCB because the guy blew his load on the GPU. I have kinda made it a habbit to disassemble and reassemble the videocards when I get them. Every degree counts :)

Do you think you can do a before and after comparison? Remember you have to factor in ambient temp and run the exact same load in a controlled environment to get an accurate comparison.

Newegg Business is not Newegg.com.

It's the same warehouse's.

Hey is Diamond still considered a "good" brand? I thought the company died? Just like hercules and such. Do they still make custom PCBs?

Hercules...lol..you must be really old if you remember them...

Um, Diamond I think is not the same Diamond of the 1990's and of the Voodoo Monster 3D era. I think the same thing happened as with Visiontek: company name got bought out. I could be wrong, though...

I will do a furmark test after I do a quick game test with hardward monitor to see I am not reaching something crazy like 100C.

Yeah I'm an old fossile at 27. God I hope I don't lose my gaming reflexes once I hit 30 :( That's the age when everything goes down hill.

So Diamond has been acquired by a different company but kept the name brand I assume. That sucks :(

lol, 30 is just beginning of the prime of a mans life. I say that because I am 32 haha. Don't worry about your reflexes, at 32 I play BF3 and CS and do extremely well.

I'm 40 and I routinely kill people half my age, and top 3 or top frag quite a bit in Black Ops or any game I dedicate myself to being good at (without horribly OP guns).

Still debating on whether to take up starcraft 2 or league of legends, for tournament play...I don't seem to have the motivation to do this in street fighter 4 (long story).

Your "30" thing has to do with competitive contact sports like basketball...getting banged up slowly eats you up.

There hasn't been any real study about videogames and age, that's not a directly established sport.

I can tell you that my average reaction time is about the same as my semi-pro CSS friend (who's been in tournaments) and he's 16.

Ok enough off topics...

So my understanding is that all double d edition cards (2) will have lifetime warranty. So now I have to find a double d edition card

actaully there has.

Theve done studies on older gamers, their mental function and reflexes are at a much higher level than non gamers of the same age group.

The desosion making process required to play games keeps you mind sharp.

From what some other people were saying, even the lifetime xfx's now are not transferable. If that's true, I'd rather a 3 yr serial based warranty for selling the card unless you're truly planning on keeping it.

Doesnt show the right price. Unless they just raised the price, the moment that you posted it lol

Yes they did! It was $567.99 for about 30 minutes but is now sold out. Here is a saved page from my iphone:

Yeah, that blows. There was only value to the XFX warranty because it was transferrable. Ahh well, I think we all knew it was a matter of time. Nice knowin' ya, XFX!

purchased a sapphire around 5pm est yesterday. newegg has marked it as shipped! woohoo

For those that are getting refunds back from amazon, do you know where it would show up?

Mine's being refunded to my method of payment, debit card. Was sent an email to confirm.

Irks me that they dropped the price after selling out just to price gouge the initial shipment. Would've been much happier going through amazon than newegg.

I ordered my Powercolor at 4:35pm EST yesterday. It's still in processing. :(

Mine's being refunded to the method of payment as another poster said. I just got the follow-up email confirming the refund and its amount ($50) :).

23 in-stock at newegg of the gigabyte still, go get 'em people! :p

UPS has my Sapphire 7970 from amazon out for delivery, can't wait! :D

I'm interested to see when MSI finally makes it to the party, and if there's any explanation.
