Hi all. im debating whether to get this game or not and wondering what your impressions are of it so far.

i loved oblivion and fallout games and wondering whats new in this game in terms of gameplay features and how u rate it so far and what bugs are there at the moment?

cheers

Ditto, and id like to hear if anyone is running it on a minimum system, how does it run? if anyone has a 8800gt playing it

I am all preloaded and ready to go. I'll get back and let you know what I think.

I lost track of time. I started it up at 9pm, and now it's 2am. If you're into Oblivion and FO3, then you'd be doing yourself a huge favor by picking this one up.

I haven't noticed any bugs (other than the bugs in the fauna :D) and surprisingly I haven't CTD'ed at all (yet.. it's just a matter of time, right?). I can imagine this would scale well on older hardware. For instance a 8800GT should be able to pull out maybe a mix of medium/high; IIRC it's comparable to the GT240 in this benchmark:

I hated Oblivion.
I loved Fallout 3.

So far, I love Skyrim.
Todd Howard liked to say they "learned" a lot when they developed FO3 and I think it shows in Skyrim.

I am sure it will be a fantastic game. Once the multi GPU acceleration kicks in, that is... but I fully expected initial problems, much like Oblivion had. This game is one that will be good for years, not weeks or days.

I like it alot!

Its a cross between oblivion/fallout 3 (not vegas thank god)

I like how there isnt a class....you just play the way you want, and each skill (lockpicking, archery etc) have perks that increase those skills in some way.

I also like the stats page of how bad you been....Also dont forget to put buckets on NPC's head so you can steal from them without seeing!!

Ok Dokie,

I've played a few minutes and here are my initial imoressions.

The game looks great. I suspect I will be playing for days and perhaps months (years).

Only one crash so far. Right after the install I tried to play and after hitting yes I want to start a new game I was dumped back to windows. After a rebooth things seem to be workign fine.

Like all previous Bethesda games there are some design and coding descisions I really hate.

Keyboard/Mouse V Controller.

If I dont have the controller plugged in -- which I usualy dont as it keeps my system from going to sleep or starting the screensaver, you default to keyboard/mouse.

When I plugged in the controller it changed to use the controller AKA console mode. I did not see or find a way to overide this in game.

That sucks. Having to physically plug and unplug hardware to make a choise on what interface to use to control the game.

The game looks console-ish. I dislike that. I know it saves money for game design. Still I do not like it.

The intro seems much more interactive. So far I have picked my race and name. Either the whole pick your class, skills, sign stuff is gone or later. I am still escaping though the obligitory mini-dungeon Bethesda always seems to start you with. Its cool. It gives familier ground to learn the game.

With as much invintory management as an RPG of this class has I am disapointed you cant mix controller and keyboard.

I'll shortly be looking for the obligatory config files. Maybe at some point decades from now an Elder Scrolls will come out I dont need to use a text editor to get just the way I want.

Overall the game looks good. I am sure many like myself will enjoy many hours of workign though the world. I am just disapointed some of the long standing UI/Game design basics of Bethesda have yet to evolve.

Anyone else having issues with key bindings in the menu's? The menu functions seem to be bound to the corresponding default function in game, and not the actual key.

For example, by default F is to favorite in menus, and change to third person in the game. I changed third person to P in the game, and now I have to press P to favorite an item, even though it still says "F to Favorite" at the bottom of the screen. Very frustrating!

I also really want vsync and mouse acceleration to be off.

How do you put a bucket on a NPC's head??

Hold down your E button (pick up).
Then carefully drag the bucket/kettle over their head, like a hat. And drop it.

How does the combat work? Last I read they had changed it to be a left hand /right hand equip system similar to demon souls. Any comments on how this actually feels to those that have played the game?

My biggest complaint with Oblivion is the 'flatness' of the combat system and how easily it was to cheese every enemy in the game by backpedaling with a bow or spell (I installed a mod to make move backwards be walk speed only).

The left/right mouse system is clunky as fuck when you combine it with the favorites/hotkeys commands. Bethesda needs to patch that shit, I almost can't recommend playing a dual wielder because of how broken it is.

You change key bindings how? I didnt see it.

Loved Morrowind.

Hated Oblivion/Fallout 3

Loving Skyrim so far, 4 hours in.

very fun so far, the only thing i can say i truely dislike is the fact that the new world (looks gorgeous) is very mountain heavy and trying to get where you need to go will usually be a pain in the ass of trying to get over or around a mountain; usually running into more obstacles than the original mountain presented. nonetheless LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than oblivion, and I for one loved the shit out of oblivion. this game has huge fucking potential.

Well Skyrim is mostly mountains, it has been that way since the land was first defined.

The only problem I have really ran into is the sound when talking to people will sometimes just flake out and all you hear is a muffled/crackling sound and can not make out what they are saying at all. I think I may need to change the sound settings in windows 1 more time and see if that fixes it.

Other than that I love the game so far. I honestly did not get into the other Elder Scrolls games so the UI and some other stuff that bothers others doesn't bother me. I also use a merc stealth keyboard so the issue with keybindings you see some people complain about seem to be negated with the way the Merc keyboard is laid out.

Changing key bindings is under settings. You have to hit esc, I cannot remember the exact flow of the menu ATM, but I think it is ESC--> System--->Controls (someone who is at home playing could probably provide the correct sequence) you then get a list of all of the keys, click on the key you want to change and the hit the button you want to change it too. I did not go through all of the keys to see if there are limitations or keys it will not allow you to bind, all I did was change the sprint key to shift, and interact and take all to my mouse thumb buttons.

I had no issue with using the KB/m on the UI.

What a change in attitude frankly from this trollish threadcrap from yesterday:

What happened? You were on a blistering campaign yesterday of FUD and hate. About as bad as I've seen anywhere.

There's no way in hell this thing's even remotely comparable to Rage and I mean that as a huge compliment to this game.

I started playing last night around 8pm , I went Nordic which turned out to be pretty neat. There looks to be two paths for following which is a nice touch.
Graphics are great , some neat spell effects too.
One thing I liked was the overhauled face designer , way better selections.
One simple quest to retrieve a gold item turned out to be huge part of story even though I thought it was a fetch quest. I dont want to ruin anything.
Im torn between playing Arkham City and this and MW3 too.

Loving it so far, but have a couple quibbles (one of which is pretty big).

* Very console-ish. Think someone else already said this. It just feels like I'm playing a console game on my PC. Guess this is where gaming is headed anyway. This isn't too bad, really, but I feel like I should just go ahead and play with a controller rather than mouse-n-keyboard.

* Biggest issue I've had in my 3 hours of play is being unable to exit a chat with an NPC in Whiterun (Heimskr). TAB would not let me leave the conversation. Nothing would. I could Alt-TAB to my desktop and back in and just select either of the two conversation options, but could not walk away. I had to load a Save from 10 minutes prior to continue. This is troubling, as not everyone Quicksaves every 5-10 minutes when they get in the zone. Could be a fluke, but I hope to not see this again.

Interesting.

I must have bugged it somehow. When I did that, even though I was using keyboard/mouse I got the config screen for the controller.

I will try again.

Do you have a controller plugged in? Word on the street is that the game will default to a controller if one is plugged in.

So far I've just run it on my 2011 MBP with 6750m. It runs pretty well; I can't max everything but I get pretty good frames on high. It looks tremendous. I turned off Vsync.

No troubles with controls. It picked up my 2 side buttons on my Logi M570 trackball and Keyboard seems to be just fine.

This game's on my GOTY shortlist.

Relatively speaking, so far, this has been a surprisingly bug free experience for a Bethesda game out of the box. Hell, I'm astonished.

Ok thought I would reply, Skyrim runs great on my 8800gt.. I set graphics to high, 1680x1050. The game is old system friendly. Guess it is alot more optimized than the old Oblivion.. Oblivion wiht better cities mod and other mods ran like shit on my system.

Antialasing 4 samples, anisotropic filtering 2 samples..

I think it's awesome so far, and see myself spending way too much time playing. The UI is clearly consolized, but it gets better once you get used to it.

Running absolutely smooth on the rig in my signature. I'm enjoying every moment thus far and can't see it changing at all. The game isn't perfect, but once mods start coming, it'll elevate an already superb experience ten fold.

5 hours of gameplay and not one glitch. On a Bethesda title. On day one.

*faints dead away*

So far so good. If Dark Souls isn't my GOTY, it will absolutely be Skyrim...too early to say though for now.

I am curious though, as most of you seem to have figured this out already (maybe from playing Oblivion?)...how do favorites work? Not even sure what they do exactly, I only ask because I see the option in the menu but haven't experimented with it yet.

No 7.1 surround support. Great job. Go from an engine that does have 7.1 sound support (works fine in Oblivion and Fallout games), to an engine evidently designed for consoles. Key mapping is shoddy.

Maybe wait for the first couple of patches.

You can hit "q" during gameplay, and your favorites will be listed. You can also assign hotkeys 1-8 under the favorites menu for quick weapon/spell swaps or potions.

So am I lol. Played Oblivion on release day as well and it didn't go as smoothly. But so far Skyrim has been such a treat! Dunno if it'll get as much total playtime as Morrowind, but it's looking to be quite a big amount. :D

so far no glitches or crashes. never played any of the other elder scrolls games and i couldnt get into the fallout series (fo3). but skyrim actually got me hooked.
