Network pics thread

Yeah. I was buying broken MacBooks and fixing the for a while. You can normally get macs that "won't power on" for $150 then add a $30 keyboard/power button board, then sell it for $450-500.

The CB goes in my jeep for trail rides.

those are still used ? woah!

CB Radios are actually still really popular around here (Indianapolis). We have some pretty nice CB shops and there is always some chatter to pick up out on the interstate.

Keeping it somewhat on-topic...

Got some free software from MS, so I had to play around with it...

Woot! Finally get to contribute to this thread! :D

Left to right is the Actiontech FiOS router/modem (with wireless disabled), Netgear GS108 switch, and my 2TB WD My Book Live NAS. My WAP is a D-Link DIR-655 mounted up in the floor joists. Hope to build a small server in a Silverstone SG05 or similar case to go next to the NAS. Believe or not with the DIR-655 in that location, I get a full signal throughout my entire house!

Mine has been working great so far. I didn't want to bother with DD-WRT. I prefer tomato firmware...

Did a huge data bundle move yesterday, will post pics after i bring them off my camera.

Here is what i get to continue with this week some time :)

60' of this x 3 runs, all hp pro curve switches :)

Here we go,

Got the unit mounted to the wall, then the switched mounted in. Some wiring added.

Still need to add a 1u APC450 to this to protect the switches and sonicwall ( tz210)

Next week, when the rest of the fiber cables & gbic's arrive i will move the 24 port to the server cabinet and run a fiber cable from this 48 port to the 24 port in the server cabinet, no HUGE mess o cable's.

Then, i get to crawl around in the attic and run 2 x 50' cables from this wall box, to the other side of the building where the other set of data runs are.

Yummy Fiber.. I should have taken pictures of the media converter that I installed Thursday. We had one switch in another building being fed from another switch. Now it is brought back to the core switches.

More pictures.

Also what is that patch panel? Looks like a bunch of blank spots with snap in rj-45 jacks

@compslckr what are you using for virtualization?

@calvinj that's a panduit mini-com patch panel and jacks.

it's actually the WRONG god dam one is what it is! some FUKIN moron who wired this whole place should be shot, i swear if i ever see this person, i want to smak them! they did EVERYTHING wrong!

I'm in the works of asking the boss, to get a better patch panel, and redo this, then i can take all the cables up top and untangle them etc etc etc.

Not sure if that's 10gig or 1gig, but something everyone should know is that fiber caps are important for 10gig/40gig/100gig links. Good job sir.

I never believed it until I was getting input errors and cleaned the fiber tips and they went away. Then I bought one of these: http://www.flukenetworks.com/datacom-cabling/fiber-testing/fiberinspector-mini and u can actually see the dirt on the fiber.

We noticed the same thing when we started putting in our 10gig/CWDM ring. It's bad when the link has so many input errors it shuts itself off. We'd planned on purchasing some test equipment when we started our FTTH build out, this just expedited it a bit. Ended up getting a JDSU unit similar to the Fluke one, but it has a power meter so it's one less thing we have to carry.

These cleaners are nice for cleaning out bulkheads and ferrules but some really dirty ones still need cleaned the old fashioned way.

And this is nice for identifying if a fiber is live, dead, and can even tone one out.

Ahh put this little gem back in service today. need some cable ends redone and the kvm cables routed better but it works.

Interesting links.. that JDSU box looks cool. I have a big fluke case full of their fiber testing shit .. sometimes annoying to carry around to different colos. And yes, I also noticed this issue much more now that I'm building out my new 10gig DWDM network. Too much fiber from all the different stages. Putting 40+ signals on a single wire makes it worth all this cleaning bs though :)

Yeah I've been using the cletop cleaners ... you've probably seen them before: http://www.amazon.com/Noyes-Cletop-S-Ferrule-Cleaner-Connect/dp/B0019UZKX2

I may try that other one you listed when I run out of this one, looks interesting.

The Cletop's are still what I use for really dirty ends, but for new fibers or a quick clean the one clicks are nice. Best thing about them is being able to clean bulkheads and lasers with them quickly. After we got our scope we noticed one connector had debris large enough to keep it from fully seating in the bulkhead, but since it was an FC end we just assumed the threading was off and twisted it tighter..... that one got replaced.

Mine should be here soon, client upgrade=new ESXi box. :)

It's not an ESXi box. It's just a simple box for some Production Automation stuff. Just moved it from it's dirty home into our Data Center.

What was wrong with the little guy!

Other than It won't fit in the rack on it's side and they don't make rail kits for it anymore. Nothing. She is a beauty!

No no, My 2900 is set to be a ESXi box. :)

Calvin, you have to go, I believe through the bios, or the button right there on the LCD to acknowledge it, then it will go blue again. :)

Dell PowerEdge 2900, 4 gb of ram, 2x 73gb in Raid 1, single dual core something or another. It's a pretty standard issue box.

Ours are Dual 3.0 Quads with 4gb ram and 5x80gb WD drives. Don't ask me why that was the config, it just happen to be what Dell had on sale.

Pictures or it never happened.

PS you should be required to put up pics of your new build your working on

Just got one of these :

Cisco-Switch-WS-C4948-10GE-131517889.jpg

24 port cisco 2960, should mate well with my free 2611, time to brake out the console cable :)

lol I never got why dell wouldn't give anything bigger than a 80gb drive as a start for a $5k server (probably added an extra 0 or two to their order number and now they have a ton of extra :p

You want porn? Well it isn't really too sexy but here is what I worked on all day..................
And the specs
r7101.jpg

The drives are 600GB 15k SAS 6 in RAID 5 w/ 1 hot spare.

wouldn't RAID 10 of been better... or you not using much I/O on that set up?
