Lian Li A04 - New MicroATX case

Can a 5870 fit without removing a hdd cage?

5870 is 11" correct? I'm fairly sure it won't fit since my 6850 is 9.x" and it's already almost up to the rack, but I'll verify in the morning :)

not bad. would like to see it stuffed with a matx board and a few more HDs.

I'm thinking about going back to matx in January with sb. I love this setup, but I really want more room for upgrading.

A 92mm should fit without an issue. It's only like a 0.5" difference in space and I'm pretty sure it can take 0.25" on each side. I'll double check that

<<Edited for space>>

w it bugs other people quite a bit.

I Just saw this.. With components in it it gives the case a little more realism, Even if everything is miniature compared to reality..

I Think its a good looking case & it makes scene now why they didn't put the 120mm in the back.. Basically this can be said to be a very close relative to the v354.. Just one is shorter & fat so thus has enough width for the 120mm fan in the back where this one has the advantage of being narrower.. No point in having it as tall as this & still as wide as the v354.. & an in between size wouldn't suit enough people to make it worth while for lian li to produce a 3rd case so similar..

After seeing this build though now I want a v354 even more. This kind of brings to light how short a v354 is in my eyes since the PSU down would be gone.. & in the shelf where my server fits I would have just enough room (within a 1/2" of heigth) to fit the v354. Both are awesome though. Placement should be the deciding factor between the 2.

Thank you for those pics and info, Willister. Very good coverage and presentation. They should prove very beneficial for those interested in this case. :)

Alright, with cage in, there's 10" from the back of the card (10.5" including the metal bracket) to the side of the hd case. Considering you need about 1" to get the power in (if you plug it in after you connect the card), I'd say no more than 9" of card. Turns out my 6850 is only 8.5"

You're welcome :) I'm planning on doing some modding for better cable management since I've got the next month off from school. I'll probably order new parts and stuff like longer sata cables as well so the next time you guys see it, it'll probably be very different :)

Longer cards usually have the plugs on the top edge so you should be able to use the whole length.

Is it possible to run an H50 from the CPU to the front fan? Concern is length of tubes 1st, creative HD cage work required second. I have a 2xSLI X58 setup in a massive CoolerMaster 840. Going to purchase a micro X58 board and gut the 840 into a box like this so I can haul the machine to Lan events (the 840 is gorgeous...it's just too big). I know I can get all that in an A05 (built one for my son)...but not sure here. The tube length is 11-12 inches.

I think your main problem would be the 5.25" bays blocking the upper fan, then to put it on the bottom both HD cages would have to come out.

I'm wondering if a H70/50 can fit up top without extending so far down that it hits the motherboard. Anyone know?

The top fan already almost sits flush with the mobo as you can see in one of my pics on the last page. It could be possible, but it would really depend on your mobo. Obviously with my board (gigabyte h55n itx) it wouldn't work due to the placement of the 24pin among other things. Id be willing to bet that boards with larger heatsinks around the socket area may prevent it from being mounted there as well.

The bottom fan goes up beyond the bottom rack so you'd have to entirely remove both racks to mount it on bottom. And as orangemango mentioned, the top fan is blocked by the 5.25" bay. If you're not using the bottom bay and don't mind modding it (chopping off the bottom), you could mount it there. Otherwise it looks like you may want to invent in a 120mm to 80mm adapter for the back.

Ah, I completely forgot about that. You'd still only have it attached by two screws on one side, but it does seem like that would be a solution.

i have the same mobo and psu as you. :) can you make the sata cable look nicer if you turn the hdd around?

Heh, I just read your sig in another thread. What a coincidence :)

At the moment, no. With the way the mounting holes on the rack are positioned, the drive would extend past the side panel. I did find out this evening that the bottom rack can be rotated 90 degrees so I'll probably do that rather than the current setup. I'm also seeing about possibly modding the middle rack so drives could be turned around. I still don't understand why more manufacturers don't do this to begin with. It's not like that's a difficult place for the consumer to access..

Edit: Looks like the Asus P8P67-M Pro is finally hitting retailers. Almost time to upgrade! :D

For me it comes down to this case, the V354, or the Classic Lan Box from Da Box. Probably more challenging to get the other two going (in terms of cable managment and/or airflow)...but my love of the Lian-Li B05 box almost compells me to try this one. My build will be X58 core i7, twin 460 GTX 1GB, and Asus Rampage micro board...not going to spend the money for Sandy Bridge this year...that will be next years build.

Good news folks! It finally warmed up a bit so I figured I'd head out to the garage to get some work in with the case. I figured, worst case scenario, I'd clean up the cables. First, off, a before and after :)

Now the news. There's a bit more flexibility than I originally though. The middle hd rack has a removable bottom. I thought it was riveted on, but they're just screws. Next, you can turn it around so the cables run in the back if you use cables with a right angle connector. The biggest thing for me (as you may have noticed in the picture) is that the bottom rack will actually fit into the 5.25" bay area perfectly. There are holes on both the hd rack and the 5.25" bay that line up so you can use some small bolts/nuts or zip ties to relocate it.

I did have some trouble reconnecting the 24 pin for some reason. I had removed the top panel (4 screws) and no matter how I adjusted it I could get the locking clip to get in there, so I just pulled it off. Figured it wouldn't really matter, but I'm monitoring it in case it's slowly sliding out.

Well after reading this, I couldn't stand it, and had to pull the trigger on some parts. I got one of these cases on the way, and I have bought the following to go in it.

I5-2500K
Cooler Master GeminII S cooler. (not sure what else would work. If I can get decent temps and decent oc I might just stick with this one, otherwise I will look for more drastic measures! ;) )
P8H67-M EVO (DOH taking this board back def, no multi adjustments)
Radeon 6850
XFX 750W Black Edition
4GB's (for now) Sector 5

I also have the idea of modding it rolling around my head. The size, layout, and look of this case won me over. Finally a system that's powerful enough to game like I want, and yet fit under my computer desk, all while not requiring a direct connection to a Nuclear power plant.

I'm really interested in max height for a cpu cooler, I like this case, but I dont think my current thermalright hr-01 (approx 160mm) for my 1055t would fit..

Snap, I knew I was forgetting to check something for this. Perfect timing too. Since it's the weekend I should be able to borrow my friends True 120 (believe it's the same height as the hr-01) and get an idea. I'll also measure distance from the cpu with no cooler on.

Great! Please post back the result. I'll love to see whether a ~160mm tall HSF can fit into this case.

True 120 didn't fit. From the top of my cpu (i3-550) to the inside of the side panel is 6 3/16" (~157mm) where as the True was 6 3/8" (~162mm). Those measurements should be within 1/16" (~1.5mm) (I tried to get it as close as possible) but even just looking at it, it's obvious that it won't fit without modding. It's close, but just barely doesn't make it. I suppose if one could trim the top of the heatpipes then it would just barely clear it, but otherwise you're gonna need to look for something a little shorter.

Ok took MB and Video card back so I got store cred cause the sales guy said they where getting P8P67-M Pro's in next week. :D

Also, am gonna see about getting a GTX 560 there as well since I heard the 25th is the day approx. I can use my current card until then.

This is going to be a really sweet build. I will measure the cogage true spirit I got around here and see if it will fit when the case comes in.

Thx for the measurements. Now I know that my hr-01 (~159,5mm) won't fit without modding, we'll see if I get the case anyway

lol oh man, I ordered the cases, and my wife ordered em at the same time too, so now I have 2 A04B's and 2 V354's on the way rofl. Gonna have to return the second order. I wanted the A04 cause it needs to go under my desk. I got the V354 for my wife cause it was going to go on top of her desk.Geez /facepalm

So I looked up the measurements, on the True Spirit, 156mm..... damn that's gonna be close!

I exchanged pm's with him last night. 80mm obviously fits without modding, 92 will need a mod for the new holes, 120 is too large, refer to this and this picture to see why. As I said in my post when those pictures were taken, it MAY be possible to get it in there, but you're cutting out a lot of the case and you'd probably need to shave a bit off the fan too.

That sounds right too me.

I'll probably go ahead and put a 80mm back there if it's not too loud. I don't know what else I would do with that hole.... HAH I have an old school 80mm Delta I could put one of those back there.... Better hook that retarded thing to a controller so my eardrums don't explode.

>.<

So NVM me with the new hardware, do to financial issues I am going to have to change plans. I decided to get a Cooler Master HAF 912 on the cheap. I have to recycle my current system and that means full ATX.

The issues stem from my 83lbs 8.75 y/o Brindle boxer passing away. :(

Sorry to hear that mosher. Hope everything works out for ya.

Thanks! It'll be fine. The Emergency vet kinda gets pricey, I have worked on the HAF 912 and it's not too bad, won't be the aluminium awesomeness I wanted originally but that's ok.
