Agreed. We should also have a new fire hazard rating too. Wrapping PC hardware in combustibles is the definition of living on the edge! lols. I'd never leave a rig like that on unsupervised.

Ghetto Mods FTW!

paper/cardboard has to reach a very high temperature in order to combust, combustion isn't likely.

I've never had a component in any pc hit the temperature required for the combustion of wood/cardboard.

Exactly. Combustion temperature of paper (which should be about the same for cardboard) is 451 F. I just don't see a computer getting that hot.

anyone ever paint sata cables?

That is indeed the box the motherboard came in.

That is a nice box though (a nice black shine to it), you should have looked to more of a ordinary pizza box, left over cheese would also win you an extra food stamp or 2 :)

My mom sold my desk so when I got back home from school I had to make my own.

Bottom to top:

Defunct Sony Vaio PC-RX780G (doesn't boot)
Box for a polycarbonate black Macbook from two years ago (UPC removed for iPod touch rebate)
Peachtree Audio Nova (waiting on my speakers and sub to arrive before I unbox it again)
Panasonic Viera TC-L32S1 box (lots of desk space, foam edge guards centered on the TV so it doesn't flex too much).

It's surprisingly comfortable. Been working fine for almost an entire month and I've been way too damn lazy to go out and find/buy furniture.

Nothing ghetto about my rig or case unfortunately, which is off to the left of the picture. :( But hey, I love this thread anyway.

cut up old case, watercooled with an automotive heater core held in with zipties and double sided tape

That's not really ghetto at all...in fact that is a really nice looking computer. I use zipties to anchor a lot of things, so that doesn't imply ghetto mod to me.

il play your games....

i submit a wireless card that came with some motherboard....
the fan controller limits the 5v molex connector to the 3.1v that the card runs on, the other wires attach to a USB cable i hacked up.

Some of you might remember my super-ghetto monitor back light fix from earlier in this thread.

img0429v.jpg

I got this monitor from the trash with a broken back light inverter. I fixed that problem by adding CCFL inverters and powering it directly from my computer's PSU.

I've been running it this way for awhile, open high-voltage.

One day I was eating some Pringles when I started to think about covering them, and an idea was born.

The foil lining has the advantage of blocking the inverters from EFI.

Two zip-ties later...

So, is this more ghetto because of the Pringles, or less ghetto because there is no visible high-voltage?
