Street Fighter 4 Thread

Ha ha, I'll be out of the country for the next week or so and when I get back, I'm sure you'll whip up on me. I'll send you a game invite when I'm home.

Doubt it man, I cant even get out of G2-E yet. Ive been fishing and partying too damn hard to play this game consistantly.

Hmm remind me to add you guys to my gamer tag. I love playing against and as Sagat. My new favorite character is Sakura. Her combos look so damn cute and her focus attack is really nice.

Mines easy to remember. PSN: violentdrunk. After a few rounds, you will defentitly remeber me. hahah jk

Ryu is an absolute bastard if the player knows how to use him well.
The ability to combo into his ultra from a focus cancel, exchanged hit, or flying MP is just crazy. Even just the old school mix-up of low hits into a throw or a dragon punch can be deadly. Any time a gragon punch lands, they can focus cancel it into something devastating.
Ken sucks because of the stupid priority of fierce uppercut spam, but at least he can't combo into his ultra and his EX hurricane isn't as damaging.

Yeah, thats the big problem I'm having, any mistake I have in my execution goes easily punished with Ryu / Ken. Sigh.

Haha, xLeezardx, I've definitely played you before on the PSN.

Mine is refraxion, and a Viper player. I forget which character you play though.

Anyone can add me: Domingo_X
I can play pretty much 1/2 the cast without looking stupid, but Honda's my favorite...no matter how weak he might actually be.

Im a Sagat player and I think I stole your campionship points. Then we ran into each other again and I think you kicked my ass. Third times the charm, hit me up tonite.

Ryu's my best character. That's because I've been playing that one longer and more often than any other. I concentrated on him in the Street Fighter II days learning him primarily. I didn't really branch out into other characters into much later on.

Haha, good memory, I don't even remember all that. :p. I'll see what I can do tonight.

That's ok, a Fei-Long in a pink speedo beat me pretty badly in the third round. (First two rounds were close.)

Haha, Fei Long is kinda tough for me for some odd reason. But out of the few I've played, a lot seem to focus attack then super or ultra you right after, haha.

Gen, Sakura, Honda, even Dan in a solid players hands gives me huuuuuge issues. I finally figured out Cammy, Sim still gives me some issue. Just trying to nail him down for the most part.

I'm currently in G2-E no clue how many more I need to move up. Anyone can add me is they want. XBL: Nifo Oti. I play a solid Blanka, decent Ryu/Ken. Really would like to learn Viper.

G2-D cutoff is 3,000.

I lost my motivation to play after getting there. Feels too much like a grindfest. Even if I were a better than average g2 player, winning a championship in at least every 6 games (which usually gives 105GP), it would take 100 x 6 = 600 games for me to even move up to about G1 cutoff is. Not sure where that is, but I've played 3 people in the 11 thousands that were g2-a, so I'll just assume 12,000 is G1-A.

I have to retract my comment about G2 not being a world better than G3. My only saving grace in G2 so far is catching alot of people playing characters they aren't familiar with. Especially when I play as Ken, I can punish unfamiliar characters frequently. Anytime someone comes in with Ryu, Ken, Sagat or Akuma I really have to tighten the screws. I've gotten caught relaxing against other characters, but not often.

I gave a vicious beating to someone last night with my wake up game. It was the first time I really tried to play mind games with my opponent on his recovery. Now I have a much better understanding of how to approach that situation.
Anyone feel free to add me, I play mostly late evenings. My gamertag is Mr Jim Brown

I just finished playing the PS3 version and holy fuck I think the Sixaxis is even worse than the 360 controller. I had severe issues hitting supers and ultras from the left, and found executing them from the right impossible. I don't know if it's the D-pad or if it's the abortionate shoulder buttons, but the 360's left stick got the job done far better.

It's ridiculous that an arcade stick that's far more expensive than the game is needed to get any kind of decent playability.

Wow, I thought the Playstation 3 controller would be far better. I never really had issues using the PS2's Dual Shock controller with Street Fighter Alpha 3.

Its the D-pad on the ps3. Its very hard to consistently hit some ppls ultras with it. I usually play d-pad and swap down to analog for ultras etc. Ive gotten very adept at doing that where its not even an afterthought now. However, i do have a HRAP3 on the way to uncap my limitations on the ps3 controller im facing.

im forsaken on PSN btw, im still a G3 because i just started playing SF4 2 weeks ago, even tho i bought it release day. Hit me up!

The DS3 is not bad, but to consistently hit ultras I usually mapped R1 and R2 to 3P and 3K respectively, which sort of worked. However, akuma/blanka/sim/bison who have moves with 3P/K, you get strange moves coming out some of the time.

my PSN is jterp7, still in G3 at the moment, my ultra execution is still only about 60% consistent as compared to my play with the DS3 after picking up a TE stick.

OMGGGGGGG how do you beat Balrog as blanka. I swear I can't beat Balrog as blanka ever. He just sits there and I can't penetrate him without getting owned hard.

Balrog doesn't want to be penetrated by Blanka. Would you? :D

Awww man, you beat me to it! I definitely laughed out loud at this.

Well it seems the jury is out and the best controller for SF4 is the analog stick on the 360. Joysticks don't count and we all know that the Hiyori's are obviously better.

Hyori is good..but I don't think we're talking about the same thing. I'll wait for someone to get the reference lol.

Lol, I don't get his reference either. If he is trying to represent asia (Korea to be exact) with that Hyori reference than.... kinda off topic. In which case if he is referring to the Korean "singer" and I use "singer" very very lightly here, than should have went with a japanese singer for the reference, clearly Japanese arcade parts > korean parts. :p

rainbow roll when you can, coward crouch into upball or slide. mainly rush him down. cross ups work on 80% of balrog players jump in med kick land med kick into a blanka ball switch the ball up for a crouching light kick into a blanka ball. toss in some hops and a few dirty tricks. Get him used to a pattern than switch it up. Blankas real strength is you can switch tactics on the fly.

personally i love fighting rogs that just crouch and hit jab all fight.

Neither did I.

I'm starting to think my best experience with SF4 thus far is my first try, which was with a DS2 controller + PS3 adapter...

And for the record, my PS3 controller woes were with the SIXAXIS controller, which I've read has all sorts of issues with "dead zones". I can't speak for the actual DualShock 3.

For anyone on the PS3, did you guys notice the servers have been pretty shady after the maintenance?

My buddy said that he felt like the connection issues were fixed.

I've given up on my ps3 connectivity altogether.

XBox Live connectivity has been hit or miss for me as of late.

Not so far. I can hardly find a game to play. That's the problem I usually run into.

Really hate to suggest the obvious I know you know your stuff. Check your ports make sure their open for XBL. I had the same issues I had to move the router and forgot to open them up for the 360. After I did that I had no issues.

They are.

Havent got to play much lately. A friend got me busy playing Legendary, and played through about half of BioShock again. Also, the new WoW maps are pretty good so thats taken some time from SFIV. I did manage to get this done though...New art, textured finish (thing is very heavy now), Sanwa buttons and waiting for an octagonal gate. Plus I just wanna show it off.

I think I've finally grown tired of SF4. I've got about 2500 matches with 80% wins and I've just hit a wall. I still pick it up if I have nothing to do for a half hour, but I just don't feel like getting any better with the characters I don't play. Plus, no matter what - some matches are always going to be torture even if I can manage to win most of them.
Since the game has been out a while, most of the characters have developed into stereotypes anyway. Like the:
"Keep low jabbing" Balrog, the "Uppercut everything Ken," the "Jump back and air fireball" Akuma, the "Roundhouse kick FTW" Sagat, and the infamous "low jab/throw mix-up Ryu."

Hopefully the idea of adding T. Hawk and Dee Jay will come to fruition.
