Ikea desk gallery

Here is my Fredrick, as you can see I need to somehow hide the cables better...

How you like your Dynex LCD? Im thinking of getting a 40" since its price is pretty cheap. I am currently using a 19" for now and looks great on HDMI and even DTV channels.:D

I love the look of the Galant in Black/Silver, but like someone else mentioned, I think it would be incredibly difficult to keep clean. I might have to go with the Birch/Silver.

Hate to ask again but is there any way to get a second shelf on a jerker by other means. CL seems loaded with jerkers but no one wants to sell a shelf (even if they have 2) -.-

are you talking about the swivelling side shelves? Or a secondary main shelf (for monitor placement, etc. like mine back on page 12?)

Ikea table. Been doing over 3 years of graduate school work on it without any issues. $50 total.

Sorry if this post is inappropriate, but didn't know where else to ask.
Anyway I bought a Ikea galant off CL for $15 in excellent condition, the catch was they had just moved here and lost the screws in the process. So can I just go down to a hardware store and buy some screws for it? Are they proprietary? Would I be able to go to an Ikea store and get replacement ones?
Once again sorry for all the question, didn't know where else to ask.

I'm pretty sure there not proprietary. I would try giving your local ikea a call and see if you can get the size or a set of replacements.

You should be fine to go to your local Ikea and ask for replacements. Just be sure to take 1 in to show them, so you can be sure of an exact match. They may or may not charge you for them. I had to do the same thing last fall for my Jerker I got of Kijijil, I needed 4 screws and they didnt charge me anything.
Hope that help, and good luck:D

Nice, I really wouldn't care if they charged me for them, seeing how I only paid $15 for the desk.
Thanks guys.

can anyone please help me determine which desks are in these pictures?

sorry the pictures are so small, but thats all the craigslist seller posted. i have already emailed them asking if they know whether its a jerker, fredrik, or galant. but i'd like to know as soon as possible as i am planning a trip to ikea soon.

hmm i compared the photos from ikea and i'm starting to have hope that desk #2 is a jerker.
the legs on desk #2 definitely look way different from a fredrick and a galant, am i right?

cant really make out the legs on desk #1 too clearly.

I'd really appreciate a quick confirmation from the almighty Hard Gawds. :)

Thanks!

It's a Jerker! Better grab it before someone else beats you to it. Those desks are in high demand here at [H].

how is the jerker vs galant quality wise?
how do they compare in terms of how strong/sturdy/shaky they are?
how does the table top thickness differ?

I went from a Jerker to a Galant. Quality-wise, they're excellent; I'd say it's a tie. Same with stability, sturdiness. I believe the Jerker's tabletop may be a bit thicker, but am not certain about that. The key advantage of the Galant is its expandability. You can as many sections as you like to customize the exact desk for your needs.

so is the only real advantage/fan love for the jerker over the galant for its plethora of attachable addon shelves and for certain models the bigger ~36" depth?

I can speak only for myself. I love both desks. I originally wanted to buy a 2nd Jerker, but they had been discontinued. The IKEA guy showed me the Galant, offered an irresistible price, so I bought it. After about a week with it, I was very pleased and glad to have made the switch.

Bedroom - gaming computer

Basement - work/build/test area and file server workstation

wiretap in that first photo is the table supposed to be wavy on the left side like that? or is it just a trick of the camera?

mr.wolf what was the irresistable price the salesmen offered? currently the galant is 180-200. just wondering if you got it for any lower than that.

It's a panorama photo stitched together. Where my monitor is at, it's in the 90 degree corner of my bedroom. The desk is the Ikea Galant corner desk with the small side extention. So yeah, it pretty much wraps around in both directions. The bubble effect or fisheye effect is due to the photo stitching. In reality the edges are straight except for the single curve on the corner desk portion. :p

thats what i thought. but i wanted to check to make sure you didnt have some special edition dual wavy end version. heheh

is the leg setup 2 a legs on each side and only 1 supporting the back corner?
seems a bit pracarious. is that stable and solid?

It has 6 legs total. 2 on the left, 2 on the right, and 2 in the back. It's sturdy enough to stand on.

I paid $170 for this Galant setup (normally $250 at the store; $330 on IKEA's website):
1 left main desk
2 30" sections
6 A-legs

I snagged this desk on craigslist in Chicago for $40! Yay me. Thanks everyone for your help confirming its a jerker. I haven't actually seen it in person yet cuz I'm in Champaign, IL. but I got my sister and mother to go pick it up for me today cuz it would have been gone by the time I got up to Chicago on Sunday. They say the table top is clean and in good condition. tabletop measures 60"x31"

Nice! I like that color a lot.

I just started looking at my desk and after almost 8-9 years with this peice of crap desk I'm finally ready for a change. I've been thinking of getting the GALANT Corner desk - left but I'd like to know if the people that own it can sit directly in middle of the cut out? From the pictures it looks like everyone is a little off center, and I'm guessing [if you cant] it would be because of the legs? In this picture the owner was able to add the half-round table top to the right side, but does anyone know if I can buy a half-round table top for the left side? Online, the discription reads "To be mounted as extension top on GALANT table tops with a depth on 31 1/2" So I guess I need to know if the depth of the desk is the same on the left and right side? I think If I'm able to add the half-round table top to the left side I'd be able to get the left legs out of the way to be able to sit directly in the middle, So I think.

= [ME] :D

Damn, I was just looking more into it, and I think I'd only be able to merge a full round extention on the shorter side. The crappy thing is the half-round extention that I want would fit perfect for the section of my room [67"x66"]. Maybe I'll grow a pair and just cut a half-round extention down to 23.5" since it would only be on the back. Now I need to figure out how these extention connect to the main desk. Can anyone that owns a GALANT Desk combination get me pictures of how the extentions connect on each side I'd really appreciate it.

Green is 23.5inches and Red is 31.5inches

I know my desk isnt Ikea, it could almost pass as one, but it's very similar to the one you quoted. I've had mine setup multiple ways. Sometimes directly at the curve, but mostly at the straighter part. Here are some pics:

Sitting at the straighter part:

Curve:

Hope that answers your questions. It kinda depends on how i have my monitors setup, and whether my secondary PC is in use (cause of the keyboard and mouse of that pc)

let me know if you want any more info, or anything like that :)

Thanks Illuminate, do you happen to know the manufacturer? The only reason I was stressing so hard about the extention on the left side is I'm planning on running a Dell 30" in the corner and having a 42-46" HDTV Wall mounted over the longest side (right). Either way it doesn't have to be an Ikea desk, just as long as it suits my wants..

I thought I had to work today, and when I found out I didn't I ended up making a little trip to Ikea.

More pictures once I finish the should be easy build.

Nice... I need a bigger place for a bigger desk... my "Effektiv" (Old Galant style) is barely enough for my 30" 3007WFP and 37" Westinghouse...

2 or 3 x 3007WFP's... Muhahaha...
