Ikea desk gallery

I wouldn't recommend that keyboard tray. It's flimsy and probably wont last.

oh ok... I just hate having my keyboard up on the desktop itself...

anyone ever add like an after market keyboard tray?

Question for Galant owners. It says that the Galant is height adjustable, but what are the height increments available? Or can you adjust it to pretty much any height you want within its range?

The a-legs are the best for height adjustment. You can put it anywhere from knee level to upper-waist standing height.

Man im looking to get an Ikea Galant right angle desk but i dont think i like the a leg design but does anyone that has that setup have problems with that

what would be the problem with a-legs? If you don't like the a-legs, you can use the other styles that Ikea sells.

i have the t legs on mine and love them. easy to adjust and are extremely sturdy.

Humanscale products are butally over priced. YES they are nice, but WAY too expensive. Look for products from Hardware suppliers like RICHELIEU or HAFELE depending on where you live. Those are just a few of the suppliers that can provide stuff like that.

@KollunZ I have the t-legs on my galant. Very sturdy. Though, if you get the corner galant, I recommend that you adjust it before putting the top on. Gets hard to adjust when the surface is on. At least for me.

Your stuff is just floating!! haha and the a leg design looks like they would get in the way like i could trip over them or something like that.

ikea just opened up here so i decided to finally get off the big folding table with a stack of old textbooks as a monitor riser. almost went with the black brown color, but decided at the last minute to go with beech.

overall i'm very pleased with the desk. the cable management deals really helped out a lot. of course the small drawer unit was the most difficult thing to build. havent even started on the bookcase yet.......

quoting myself from workstation thread =)

Couldn't find my other camera so used screen grabs from my video camera. In the middle of putting up shelves above my monitors but need better anchors first so the project is on hold :p

haha thanks. I actually just made a little bumper on the corner of my desk from some "string" handle from a paper gift shopping bag that I cut off, wrapped that up, and used some masking tape and its woking pretty good. You got that link out before I could even edit out me asking for something =P but I bookmarked it and if this thing fails what you sent me is exactly what I was looking for :D

I really like the layout of that room... and you did a really nice job with organizing everything.

mind me asking what lcd stand and lamp that is?

ToNz,

Never mind I saw that parts you used for your desk in the other thread. Just two more questions though:

What filing cabinet are you using, and do you have a link to that light setup? I think you mentioned they were from Lowers.

Thanks for your time!

Very nice setup, what do you call the stand/shelf that the monitors are sitting on? I can't seem to find it on their website. Do you know what the name is? As well as the legs of it.

Edit: A clearer photo.

Few questions:

1. How long is that DVI cable you used? Seems like a long reach. Did you have to use a USB extension for your keyboard?

2. How many wire organizers is that? 2 or 3?

3. How much did you pay for all of the desk components? I'm thinking of putting together the same configuration.

Not my credit my bros, he bought a new dell and it was such a good deal that i had to get one as well. so i only owe like 5 to 600 left on it.

Very nice! I'll bet you saved at least $100 by going to an IKEA store instead of ordering online.

He
I was thinking of getting the frederick.
Will the signum cable holder fi on it?

How much can that computer holder hold? I'm planning on getting an Ikea desk with that holder but I'm worried my P180 might be too heavy for it.

The IKEA computer holder thing can hold A LOT of weight.. if someone was holding the table steady, I could probably stand in it, lol. (I weigh around 175lb) Realistically, I'd say it will hold 100lb.

apparently my thread subscription didnt work... sorry for the delayed response.

thanks

mind me asking what lcd stand and lamp that is?

lcd arm: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=201981104
lamp: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20370383

at the time (week or so ago now) buy.com had the best price on the arm with shipping, so thats where i bought it. at some point in the future i'd like to have another arm + lcd off that mount. i can confirm that both the monitor arm and the lamp shake a little bit when you type (its actually the desk that is moving). it doesnt really bother me, but is something i may work on minimizing in the future (thinking little silcone washers or pads might solve the issue... honestly you cant really complain though on an ikea desk). please let me know if you have any suggestions~

1. How long is that DVI cable you used? Seems like a long reach. Did you have to use a USB extension for your keyboard?

2. How many wire organizers is that? 2 or 3?

3. How much did you pay for all of the desk components? I'm thinking of putting together the same configuration.

1. 10 ft DVI cable and 10 ft power cable:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10209&cs_id=1020902&p_id=2759&seq=1&format=2

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10228&cs_id=1022801&p_id=1292&seq=1&format=2

also had to put a usb hub about half way in the wire holder for keyboard, mouse, desktop mic and battery backup usb connections. no way they could have reached on their own. there is also a small powerstrip in there for things like my bluetooth headset charger, blackberry charger (all hidden), the lamp, usb hub, printer and hard drive enclosure. i have no more power outlets on the strip and no more open usb ports on the hub. in hindsight i probably should have bought the 7 port usb hub instead.

just a note on the dvi cable... 10 ft isnt long enough in my configuration to provide sufficient slack in the monitor arm, so i had to let the cord out a little bit from the cable holder before the arm. you can see it coming up in the picture under the lcd. next option would be 15 ft, but i would have had to coil it up a bit in the cable holder.

2. 3 wire organizers (called 'signum') from ikea

3. i also bought a matching bookcase (effektiv series.. will build it this weekend) and some odds and ends while i was there. just added up what i see on the receipt and it was about $500 for the desk. that includes the corner desk right, straight extension plus the small round and frame extensions for each. had 3 signum cable management deals + the computer holder. the drawer unit is another $160. obviously i could have built a much cheaper setup, but had a pretty specific idea of what i wanted and the space it needed to fit in.

whats the name of the leather thing that you have near your keyboard, i could use that!

ikea has several desk pad options. specifically i have this one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30129964

surprisingly it is pretty good quality and actually has a sturdy metal body under the leather. it works nicely as a work area/mousepad for my laptop that i can just slide out of the way to game on my desktop.

i had never been to an ikea before this... ultimately this thread gave me most of the ideas :)
