Windows 7 Beta Goes Public

Does anyone know if it runs on Hyper-V through Server 2008?

and I still know more than you, so deal with it.
The third and fourth editions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of 1980 and 1994 and the European ICD-10 describe NPD in similar language:

An all-pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration or adulation and lack of empathy, usually beginning by early adulthood and present in various contexts. Five (or more) of the following criteria must be met:

*Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

*Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion

*Is firmly convinced that he is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special, unique, or high-status people (or institutions)

*Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation, or failing that, wishes to be feared and notorious (narcissistic supply)

*Feels entitled. Expects unreasonable or special and favorable priority treatment.

*Demands automatic and full compliance with his expectations

*Is “interpersonally exploitative” i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends

*Is devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with or acknowledge the feelings and needs of others

*Is constantly envious of others or believes that they feel the same about him or her

*Is arrogant, has haughty behaviors or attitudes coupled with rage when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted

either MS only has one key for this whole thing, or its a static key based on your IP. all 5 came back as the exact same.

I think the key is tied to your live account.

I tried manually refreshing over and over again in IE but after an hour I gave up and am now trying the C4C route. Thats been running 5 tabs refreshing every 15 seconds and has been going for 20 minutes with no luck for me yet. :(

I guess I'll just let it run over night and see what it turns up with.

I got my key but when I hit the download tab nothing happens??
Anyone else have this problem??

I wish I can get a key at it for 30 minutes going to give it 10 more minutes and call it a night.

Wow. Obsess much?

Take a deep breath and let it go, and get back on topic lest someone report your posts...

On-topic: the keys are tied to your Windows Live account, yes, and the TechNet "trick" from earlier should also, so... all those multiple keys are just being wasted which is what I have issues with.

Microsoft opens the beta program with the expectation that your average Joe (not me, I assure you) will either have a Windows Live account or will create one to be able to participate in the public beta and is willing to offer up a key to each account holder.

I'm surprised - honestly surprised that it's allowing people to get multiple keys that way, but then again, those people are being stupid little leeches in that respect. If anyone feels otherwise, great, fantastic, I'm happy for you, really, but realistically you're screwing over other people that might want to get a key if Microsoft is actually tracking the sheer numbers and will cut it off at 2.5 million distributed.

But then again, this happens each time a beta OS from Microsoft gets out, so in that respect I am not surprised.

And I have a fan now, so... hey, it's been a good day. :)

Ok I'm throwing in the BS Flag!!!! This is taking a little longer than a lot of other people. Who has within the last hour acquire a key? Without spending an hour trying?

I've been running C4C on the 64bit page for about an hour now and still nothing :(

I've been running Build 6801 since it was released at PDC, so I'm not too anxious for the Beta. I got the Blue Badge features unlocked so the experience is basically the same. This Pre-Beta build reminds me of XP SP2 in terms of stability and things working properly. I'm just curious how much different Build 7000 is. Got the download from Microsoft so I think I'll just try an upgrade while they fix the beta site.

so I can run it for 30 days with no key but then what? also will something be nagging me the whole time I dont have a key?

I've opened that page a dozen times and I haven't seen the word "error" yet. I've highlighted the following
Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal—we're in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We're sorry for the delay and we'll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience.
Been running c4c for about 25min on three tabs with no change yet.

^^
I dont even get that. It keeps redirecting me to "Welcome to Windows 7" pages.

I'm logged into Technet and have tabs open in FF and C4C is refreshing ever second. It's been running for an hour with nothing.

I have the ISO but I need the key!

no go in fire fox. don't know what the issue is and I have about had it. this was pretty poor planing here, I am not about to install an os that I can report bugs in and have to uninstall in 120 days

don't we all. I'm calling it a night.. hopefully it will bring the key to the front so when I wake up in the morning I will have a brand new shinny key..

I just got a x64 key.

As has been posted multiple times in this thread and many others:

You do NOT need a key to install and start using Windows 7.

If you have the ISO, burn it (at half your burner's max speed, or 4x, whichever, but don't burn it at full speed... you've been warned if it doesn't work, and I suggest using a DVD+RW actually, if you have any), and then boot off the disc and start the installation.

At the point where it asks you for the key and provides a box to type it in, uncheck the box that says "Activate when online" and click No. It will complain about no key being entered; click No again, and the installation proceeds. You will install the OS without issues past that point (I hope) and you can use it that way for up to 30 days (you can even discover to the minute how much time you have left with a simple command in a Command Prompt).

Before those 30 days are up, you have two options:

a) enter a valid key and activate online, or...

b) use the slmgr.vbs -rearm command to add an additional 30 days of usage, unactivated, up to a maximum of 3 times - which means 30 days, plus 30 days, plus 30 days, plus 30 days = ~120 days max.

Nobody needs a key to install Windows 7 and start using it, so remember this, and spread the information around so we can stop seeing all the freakin' 'I NEED A KEY" posts...

Can't edit - sorry for the double post

your error page should look like this:

if it is a search screen, you're not logged in correctly

just wondering, if i do decide to leave my laptop online refreshing for keys, what happens if it refreshes and gets a key, but then refreshes again and gets an error? Anyway for me to get the key back? Or is this why people use check4change?

I know I don't need the key but at this point I want a darn key!

It's almost like a treasure hunt. In a geeky, Microsoft kind of way.

The key is linked to your IP so once you get that one, the same key should reappear ( or so I have been told )

However, I just tried to hit the x64 link again and I am getting the error page even though I had gotten a key through that method - so really, I don't know, sorry. (!!)

How did you do it? Exactly how did you get it?

FF, IE? C4C?

I used firefox and C4C.. I setup 4 tabs.. 1st tab set for 1 second refresh, 2nd tab 2 seconds, 3rd was 3 seconds, and the 4th was set to 15 seconds. I was shutting off all the lights to go to bed after waiting a damn hour and it popped up .. I was YEA!!!!

im about to do the same, so in check4change, what exactly did you highlight? the "Error The site is currently experiencing technical difficulties, please check back in the next business day. ?"

And after check for change notices the change, does it stop the refresh?

Yes. Make sure "allow navigation away from this page" is checked as well. You'll get a popup dialog confirming you're moving away from the error page.

what do you mean by moving away from error page? Does that mean after it finds the change which is the key, it'll give me a popup saying it is going to refresh the changed page?

this is great its rather fast at everything, steam loads faster and so does tf2

gta4 + 185.20 64-bit has been the best gta4 experience yet, 181's were a lot worse the 185's tho but still way better performance than vista 32-bit and this is only beta

Ok. Thanks Sinster and Maximus. Got it.
