edit: flashed my bios to F9, still rock stable at 3.20Ghz with v1.3250. but anything above that, need a lot voltage (which i couldn't justify) to just get into windows, tried last night and was able to reach 3.6GHz with 1.46 volt. can do superpi but orthos gives BSOD almost immidiately. Tempareture in coreTemp shows: 45 idle and 62 while doing orthos.

Hmm... I just noticed that I forgot to close avg, and an avg scan kicked off during that test, lol. In case anyone was wondering the temps:
37°C - Idle
56°C - Load
Open - Case
21°C - Ambient Room

CMStacker, Scythe Ninja Rev.B Plus, AS5, stock NB HS w/ 40mm fan (had an HR-05-SLI on it, but I needed that for my Ultra-D, lol). It runs in a much hotter room normally. So, its running 24/7 @ 3.0Ghz 1.31v, idle's at 30°C and reaches 51°C on full load.

It's my first overclock I've done so I'm happy. Just replaced the stock cooler with a Zalman 9700, so I want to push higher, albeit at 3.0 I had to set my RAM timings to beyond sloppy (6-7-7-20) to get any sort of stability at 1:1. :(

I'm sitting around 3.7ghz, waiting on new ram to make sure I'm cpu limited before posting official speed though.

Also, some people are hitting as high as 3.9ghz! (I don't know how stable these clocks are though) I have made post at 3.9, again, ram has been my major hurdle for now.
Here's one post

I was looking at the original database and it looks like you are doing a lot of work by hand, counting the number mainboards used, etc. You could make your life a bit simpler by using the COUNTIF(range, condition) function in excel. For instance, to see how many people are using the ArcCool Freezer7 Pro HSF, you'd select the cell you want the data in and insert:

Code:
=COUNTIF(R1:R272,"ArcCool Freezer7 Pro")

Where R1:R272 are the cells containing all the HSF information. Thought I'd make that suggestion since you are doing an awesome job and might want to save a little time and some of your totals are off. Unfortunately this would require a little reworking of the spreadsheet to make your life easier in the long run. It requires that you always type exactly the same thing for two identical pieces of data, i.e. "Arctic Cool Freezer 7 Pro" is not the same as "ArcCool Freezer7 Pro" to Excel. If you want, PM with the current .xls file, I can make the changes and get it back to you for future maintainace.

Thanks again for the work you are putting into this!

thanks for the suggestion ill keep that in mind.. and decide if i want to go that route.. like you said i have to enter exactly each model of the heat sink.. sometimes i would things differently.. like if someone said they had a zalman 9700 LED.. i would enter that exactly "zalman 9700 LED" whereas the original database it would be just Zalman 9700 .... no LED at the end.. thanks again bro...

Where can i find my CPUs 'Stepping'? Ive looked over that packaging but i cant find anything like that. Is it required to get on the data base?

I may be ready to start overclocking my new QX6700 rig next weekend. I built it on Monday and
I have been running it off and on since then. By next weekend the 200 hour suggested (Arctic
Silver 5) burn in period will be done. I am going to overclock my 8800 GTX this weekend though!

I wonder when we will see the first QX6800 result? Who is going to step up and take a huge
blow to the wallet?

No it is not required to get on the database, but CPU-Z should tell you. See post 413's pic.
Under the Intel Core 2 pic in CPU-Z there is a box for Stepping (6) and Revision (B2). Combine
those two boxes and that is the stepping that will be put in the database (6 B2). Yours will be
similar to the E4300 retail stepping of "2 L2".

I guess it could be an upside down L that bears a striking resemblance to a 7! :D
batchnum.jpg

Must be a misprint? :confused:

Quick question, I got up to 3.2Ghz and ran Orthos for 7 hours stable, but then after a shut down and reboot the next day I was unable to get past the post screen, is that normal? (I either had to lower the speed back down to 2.8 or up the NB voltage by .03, but I have yet to find any good documentation on what is a safe voltage for a passively cooled NB)

oh wow that is a 7.... i was assuming it was an L... here is some info that I found on it from techpowerup

Reading the FPO / BATCH Code
Example: L149A463-0726

1st letter or digit = plant code (Malay)
0 = San Jose, Costa Rica
1 = Cavite, Philippines
3 = .............., Costa Rica
6 = Chandler, Arizona
7 = .........., Philippines
8 = Leixlip, Ireland
9 = Penang, Malaysia
L = ............, Malaysia
Q = ..........., Malaysia
R = Manila, Philippines
Y = Leixlip, Ireland

2nd digit = Year of production (2001)

3rd & 4th digits = week (49th week )

5th - 8th digits= lot number

10th - 13th digits = serialization code

so your cpu was made in the Philippines...

that is weird that you rebooted and it was unstable.. could be something might of changed in the bios settings when you rebooted?? that never happened to me.....

Well cool beans, thanks for the batch number break-down. I'm not crazy/retarded. :D

Also, I double checked everything in the bios, and it was all the same to my knowledge. Did a few reboots whilst changing some things, and upping the MCH/NB voltage was the only thing that allowed it to boot into Windows and remain stable.

MCH/NB is currently at 1.35 with the processor throttled back at 2.8. I've found a few OC guides for C2Ds, and they all put the MCH/NB voltage at like 1.5 which seems pretty significant since voltage stock is 1.28 for this board I believe. Makes me curious as to what everyone else has their MCH/NB voltage at.

Just to let you know, the E4400 stock speed is 2Ghz. it says 1.8Ghz on the overclocking table ;)

Okay, I wandered through the first 4 pages and couldn't find anything regarding this, and I'm not going through another 22 pages. So, can anyone tell me how to make Orthose stress all 4 cores? I've seen a couple of shots of this, but I can't figure it out. The best I can get it to do is 2 cores, even if I launch multiple instances.

I'm stumped.

Okay guys, I need some help. I was trying to test my system to see if it was Orthos stable, but I will be damned if I can figure out how to make Orthose stress all 4 cores. Task manager and Core Temp clearly show that only one of the C2D cores is actually running. I've seen screenshots of Orthos running on 4 cores, but I can't seem to find out how they did it.

Any help?

Another odd thing I've noticed, and I'm not sure what to believe.

I thought you could reduce the multiplier in the BIOS on Intel chips. However, I have some discrepency, and I'm not sure what program to believe.

By the BIOS I am 311 x 8 and should be at ~2490MHz.

1. CPU-Z says I am at 311.3 x 8 for 2490MHz, and this matches what I have set in the BIOS.

HOWEVER!!!!

2. System POST screen says 2800MHz.
3. My Computer properties says 2800MHz.
4. Orthose says 2800MHz
5. Asus PC Probe II says 2800MHz.
6. Core Temp says 2800MHz; However, to make this value it is reading 350MHz FSB w/8x multi and FSB is only at 311MHz in BIOS.

Which value do I accept?

Set the process' affinity in task manager. So, run two instances. Set the first process' affinity to the first two cores, then the second instance to the third and fourth cores.

CPUz is reporting the proper calculation, and thats what you set in the BIOS. I'm assuming you have a Q6600, which has a default multiplier of 9x. So all other programs are assuming the default 9x multiplier, but read the actual FSB speed from the system...
8 * 311 = 2.49Ghz
9 * 311 = 2.80Ghz
