Cyrix never made a 200MHz part. At least not until you reached the MII family. I believe what you are rerferring to is the Cyrix/IBM 6x86 PR200+. Which was actually a 150MHz part using a 75MHz bus. Cyrix did eventually release a 200MHz part but not until the release of the Cyrix MII PR233+ which ran at 200MHz.

I always bought Intels top of the line cpu when it was released until the con job started. Get the new "latest grestest" so you buy it & boom the newer "latest greatest" is released 2months later. ie.965 to 975-920c to 920d, etc. Now I dont jump on anything, ie. sandy bridge problems.

Alright...

My original entry is somewhere earlier in this LONG LONG thread, but its time for an update with new CPU's and editing some of the old info as I remember it better now. Years are somewhat approximate based on memory alone.

It all starts with my parents XT compatible I was allowed to use in 1988...

1988: 8088 (I forget the clock rate, probably 4Mhz)
1991: 286 8Mhz (OC:ed to 12MHz, This was both my my first own computer and the first one I took apart and put back together again at age 12, it scared the crap out of my parents)
1994: 486sx 25mhz (OC:ed to 50Mhz, This was my first - from scratch - PC build, For OC all that was needed was the addition of an HSF which it did not have stock)
1995: Pentium 90Mhz (would not OC at all)
1997: Pentium 150mhz (pre-MMX) OC:ed to 200Mhz
2000: AMD Duron 600mhz (OC:ed to 950Mhz)
2001: AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz (Would not OC at all, this thing ran HOT)
2001: AMD Athlon 1.4Ghz
2001: AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz (same CPU as above after crushing the 1.4 (and it's replacement, my second 1.4) with an asetek vapochill
2001: AMD Duron 600mhz (OC:ed to 800mhz) After I destroyed the 1.2 with the vapochill and got fed up and sold it)
2002: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (No OC. I had gotten tired of loud fans, and it was fast enough)
2004: AMD Athlon64 3000+ (socket 754) (OC:ed from 2Ghz to 2.4Ghz)
2009: Intel Core i7-920 (Was able to hit 3.8ghz stable air cooled with built in cooler in Shuttle SX58H7, but it was LOUD, so ran it at stock)
2011: AMD Phenom II X6 [email protected]
later 2011: Intel Core i7-3930K@ 4.6Ghz

Lets see if I can remember them all:

AMD 5x86 133
Pentium2 233
Celeron 300A@450 (oh yeah...)
2x Celeron 366@550 (Miss my old BP6)

Core 2 Duo E6800 stock
Core 2 Quad Q6700 ctock
Core i7 875k@4ghz

Athlon 1800+ @ 1800
Athlon64 X2 4400+

Other random CPU's. Duron 650, Barton 2500+(x2), Cereron 2.8 GHz, Turion X2 Tl-60, Core 2 Duo P8300.

Might be missing a few, but these are the ones that stood out.

Probably an i7-2600K. Wouldn't be much of an upgrade if it was an i5.

Great job reviving this though. Don't know why, but I love these type of threads. It's hilarious seeing the weird buying decisions some people make. Or the stupid amounts of money wasted on 4 almost identical CPU's within one year. :)

I remember posting my CPU progression. Still on the same old E6750, so no updates from me. Ivy Bridge, where are you? ;)

I've always ran a combination of 2 computers so here are the configurations I had at the time.
Due to my young age I started with own computer when I was 8. The years in borders are the years when it was made and the year periods are when I had them.

486DX2 66MHz and Pentium 90MHz (Used 1989 and 1992) 1999-2002
Intel Celeron 850MHz(new 2002), AMD Duron 800(used 2001) 2002-2006
AMD Athlon XP-2500+ (Used 2004) 2005-2012 and AMD Athlon 1200MHz (used 2001) 2006
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (used 2002) 2007-2008
AMD Athlon 64 X2 (new 2008) 2008-Present and Intel Core i5-2550K (New 2012) 2/2012-Present

The so far oldest operating computer what I had is Athlon XP-2500 which ran continously from January 2004 to February 2012 when I moved it to the closet after getting my i5. Otherwise it's still working!

Dam, cant remember them all.
My first computer was the

Commodore Vic 20. Was that an 8080? I was 12 back then when they came out about. Im 42 now... Im getting old.

Some 486 setup my dad built
Pentium 1 90 MHz
Pentium III - 533 MHz
Pentium IV (Willamette) - 1.5? GHz
Pentium IV (Northwood) - 2.4 GHz
Athlon 64 3500+ (Winchester) - 2.2 GHz
Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (Manchester) - 2.2 GHz
C2Q Q6600 (Kentsfield) - Overclocked to 3.2 GHz
FX-8120 (Bulldozer) - Overclocked to 5 GHz

Nah, Commodore never used Intel chips.

I believe they used some in house design...

edit:

I was almost right. They used the MOS 6502, an early low cost 8bit chip. MOS made it and then Commodore bought the company almost immediately after they launched it.

Went from P4 2.4 to my current Q9550 a few years back.

I cried.

I cried also when I went from my Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.2 GHz to i5-2500k @ 4.5 GHz.

Had a slot A Athlon 750 MHz with 256 mb of ram and a geforce 2 mx before the newcastle. Windows 98SE ftw.

I've actually only had a couple computers so my list is actually pretty short:

P4 Northwood 3.2GHz always stock
C2D E6600 2.4GHz got to about 3.2
i5 2500k at 4.1 right now, haven't had the chance to actually see what it can do yet.

Some old hand-me-down 286 back in the early 90s that I played Frogger and some Alf game on
Pentium 133 (first Windows PC my dad bought, Gateway 2000!)
Pentium 233 MMX @ 262MHz (first computer I built, was around 11)
Duron 650 @ 981MHz
... many other Durons ...
Athlon XP 1600+ @ 1.9GHz
... many other AthXPs ...
P4 2.53B @ 3.33GHz (tried a few others before settling on this.. 1.8A, 2.26B)
AMD Turion64 TK-53 (laptop.. later upgraded it to a TL-60)
Athlon II X2 210e @ 3.0GHz
Phenom II X2 B53 @ X4 B93
i5-2500K @ 4.2GHz

Parents home PC:
1. 286 16mhz
2. 386 33mhz
3. Cirix 133mhz
4. AMD K6 266mhz (first CPU I bought myself)

My own PC:
5. AMD Athlon 1GHZ
6. AMD XP 2600+
7. Intel Q6600

Next: i5-3570K
