6502 - Vic-20; owned this but coveted my cousin's Comodore 64 - learned about 6502 assembly language and saving programs...to a cassette tape.
Z80 - TRS80 Model 1; used @ school - got the Radio Shack catalog and picked out my Model 3 setup, never had $ to buy it due to being 13 at the time
6502 - Apple II; used @ school - never much liked it, thought TRS80 was better
Intel 8088 - Sanyo MBC-555; ran @ 3.6Mhz - slower than an IBM PC @ 4.77Mhz - learned 8088 assembly
Vax VMS - Not sure what the CPU in this thing was, which is odd since I learned Macro, the assembly language for it, and Fortran. In addition to learning Macro & Fortran, as a result of my Vax experience, I was one of the first people charged with the new crime "Computer Trespass" in Washington State.
left the state of Washington for health reasons :p
Intel 8088 - had a turbo button, ran up to ~8Mhz - had 90MB storage via two 5.25in RLL hard drives - had to blow fan in back of case or it would crash it got so hot. I downloaded a LOT of crap @ 9600bps...
started earning my own money around this time, which kept me more current in CPUs
Intel 80286
Intel 80386SX
AMD 386DX-40
Intel 80486
Intel 80486DX2
Intel Pentium - Ordered entire system from Micron for something like $3500 in 1994
Intel Pentium Pro - Dell system from an auction - eventually upgraded to dual CPUs - worked great as a space heater too
Intel Pentium II
Intel Celeron - did some cutting on the board the CPU was on to OC from 300Mhz to 450Mhz which may be why I skipped P3
I think I may have skipped Pentium III for some weird reason
Intel Pentium 4 - Ordered entire system from Dell for something like $800 in 2001
Intel Pentium 4 - Newegg - 2.8Ghz SFF Shuttle system
AMD Athlon X2 4400 - Newegg - overclocked to slightly faster than an X2 4800
AMD Opteron 185 - Newegg
Intel Q6600 - MicroCenter
Intel Q9650 - Newegg

Built almost all of them except the ones I mention ordering and of course the first few.

E8600 --> Dell i920 -- i920 overclocked to 4.0 GHz after dumping the dell. I forget what all I had before that, but I do remember the pentium II 266

Intel PII 400
Intel Cele 1ghz (coppermine, socket, not slot)
AMD xp 1800+

Intel P4d 3.0 no OC- dell mobo (opty 280)
Intel e7400 @ 3.5 (333x10.5)
looking for a cheap s775 quad to drop in here after x-mas. that 7400 with the 10.5 multi is just sooo easy to OC though ...

several of these are still in daily use.
the opty 270 went to my nephew - i'm currently building up the 280 for him.
the 3000+ went to a friend, he still uses it daily, but i clocked it back to stock before he took it.
the 1ghz cele is in my mom's htpc.
the 2400+ is in my cousin's pc.
iirc, the 1800+ is in my ex gf's rig. don't really care if it's still running.

laptop:
dell d810 - pentium m @ 1.73
upgraded to a 2.13 pentium m (donor from a dead 810 @ work)
that's the wife's traveling companion. i don't use it as i don't work weekends anymore, and i have my IBM tablet ...

Apple IIgs @ 2.8 MHz
Pentium 133
GW2K 266 or so
various vanilla store-boughts

It's funny, I explicitly remember arguing with my friend who said that processors will never break the 500MHz barrier. A couple of months later, PC World's cover had the 500MHz preview. A few years later, we have multicore processors that can do the job of 25 x 500MHz machines.

Back when I was in college earning my EE and CS degrees in the early 90s we had discussions about not being able to ever break the 100 MHz barrier. Oh, my were we wrong..

Best out of all the chips was the E5200 & Q9550, hence why I still have one of each around. The worst was the 7750 and 4200 X2 The worst chips I have had to work with. Horrible overclocking and results. Gave them away to family for upgrades for their pcs. The next chip on the list is going to be a 920 D0, Built a Pc for a friend with it and was impressed by its performance.
