Xbox One backward compatible with 360 !!!

zzzzz. Never have used backwards compatibility anyway.

Maybe. Just odd to have such big news yet no major 360 game like Halo or Gears? Here is some Viva Piñata. Enjoy!

Those games you mentioned will be limited to the people in the Preview Program only, when the feature launches this holiday season there will be 100 available. Look here to see what they'll likely be adding. Red Dead Redemption is on the top of the list with the most votes, followed by Skyrim, 2 COD games, Fallout 3, Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3, and many others...

Some more info
XBOX ONE BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY - FAQ

Q: How do I play an Xbox 360 game on my Xbox One?

A: You must own a supported Xbox 360 title. (For a list of supported titles, see below) If you have a supported digital version of the game, you can install the game from the “Ready to Install” section of My games & apps. If you have a disk version of the game, you can simply insert the disk into your Xbox One console.

Q: Where is Borderlands? You showed it, but I don’t see it in Preview.

A: We are continuing to finalize all the necessary packaging and validation work with our partners to bring your favorite games to the program as soon as possible. While not part of the Preview launch, stay tuned to find out when Borderlands will be available through Xbox One Backward Compatibility.

Q: What about my other Xbox 360 games?

A: We are continuing to add more titles. Not all titles will be supported but check back and see if your titles have been added to the list. Or go to Xbox Feedback to suggest your favorites.

Q: Do I need to also own an Xbox 360 Console to play these games?

A: No, you do not need to own an Xbox 360 console.

Q: Can I buy these games from the Xbox One store?

A: If you want to purchase these games, you can buy them digitally from the store on your Xbox 360 console, on xbox.com (search for titles in Xbox 360 games) or from your local retailer.

Q: How do I get to the Xbox 360 Guide on my Xbox One?

A: While playing your Xbox 360 game on Xbox One, you can access the Xbox 360 Guide by pressing the Menu and View buttons on your Xbox One controller at the same time. (Note: some games have additional functionality when pressing either the Menu or the View button individually. Be mindful there may be unexpected behavior if you press one button prior to the other. Check the Game Specific Issues in the Known Issues for workarounds in specific titles.)

Q: Can I continue a game that I started on my Xbox 360?

A: If you have saved your games to the cloud from an Xbox 360, you will be able to continue that game on the Xbox One. Some titles do not support cloud storage. In those cases, game saves will not be recovered on the Xbox One. Please refer to the list below to see which titles do not support cloud storage. For help on saving your games to the cloud from your Xbox 360 console, check the following articles:

Setting up cloud storage on 360: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-3...oud-save-games

Troubleshooting: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-3...e-troubleshoot

FAQ: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-3...-the-cloud-faq

Q: I saved my game on Xbox One but don’t see the saved game on my Xbox 360. What happened to my game?

A: Xbox 360 game saves are uploaded after you quit the game on Xbox One. You must quit it from Home or launch another non-backward compatible game in order for the save to be uploaded. If you turn off your console, it will be uploaded when you turn it back on.

Q: Can I play multiplayer with friends who are playing the game on Xbox 360 or Xbox One?

A: Yes! For games that have multiplayer, you will be able to play with others who own the title on Xbox 360. For Xbox One users, only members of the Public Preview audience who own the game will be able to play with you during this beta.

Q: Will I need to earn my game achievements again on the Xbox One?

A: No, if you originally earned the game achievement on the Xbox 360 you will not get duplicate achievements nor lose your previous achievements.

Known issues:

Game Saves

Save your Xbox 360 games on Xbox One often! If you leave the game (i.e. launch a full screen app or another game) you could potentially lose any unsaved progress.

Creating Parties and Chatting

When engaging with Xbox 360 users or other users of Xbox One playing Xbox 360 games, use the Party and Chat functions on the Xbox 360 Guide (press Menu and View buttons to bring up the menu and select Party or Chat).

Navigation with multiple controllers

If there is more than one controller connected to your Xbox One, only one controller can be used for navigating the Xbox 360 Guide.

Home Screen Tile performance

Playing an Xbox 360 game inside the large tile of the Xbox One Home screen can cause audio and visual performance degradation. Play games in full screen mode to avoid this.

In-game issues (for all games)

Rich presence says “Home” instead of something game specific.
The ESRB splash screen or disclaimer text does not show at the beginning of games.
After the Xbox 360 boot animation renders, the game sometimes takes a few seconds to load, just be patient.

Game Specific Issues

A Kingdom for Keflings: May not use correct avatar when playing offline.
Defense Grid: Pressing the View button will reset the level if pressed during gameplay. If you are trying to call up the Xbox 360 guide it is recommended that you first press and hold the Menu button then press View to avoid resetting the level.
Geometry Wars Evolved: It is possible to start a game before the Xbox Live sign-in completes, and when it does it will return you back to the game’s main menu.
Hexic: Corners of locked tiles in Survival mode are not rendering correctly.
Kameo: If you receive the error “problem with the disc you are using”, it is the game’s generic error, it is likely not an issue with the disc.
Mass Effect: Framerate degradations in 360 version may manifest slightly differently in Backward Compatibility version.
Perfect Dark Zero: Framerate degradations in 360 version may manifest slightly differently in the Backward Compatibility version.
Perfect Dark Zero: Ranked multi-player is not yet supported in Backward Compatibility.
Perfect Dark: Co-operative multi-player between 360 and Backward Compatibility is not yet supported.
Super Meat Boy: There is a pre-existing bug from Xbox 360 where controller input doesn’t behave correctly with controller 2.
Toy Soldiers: Online multi-player may sometimes get out of sync.
Toy Soldiers Cold War: Existing framerate degradations in 360 version may manifest slightly differently in Backward Compatibility version.
Zuma: There is a pre-existing bug from Xbox 360 where achievements that should be earned, are not always earned.
Zuma: Some users are not getting achievements. To make achievements work for a specific user (“User X”) you can perform the following workaround. This will require 2 user accounts (“User X” and “User Y”:
o Sign in “User X” and “User Y” into Xbox One.
o Choose “User Y” and start Zuma
o Proceed past the “Press A” to the main menu.
o Ensure that you have seen “User Y signed into Xbox LIVE” notification.
o Bring up the Xbox 360 Guide by pressing Menu and View buttons at the same time.
o Sign out “User Y”
o Sign in “User X”

A lot of people buy games a few years after they are out, e.g. when they buy a console late, or to get enhanced editions of the game for much cheaper etc. And this is esp true for single player games.

The Xbox Elite controller was up for preorder on Amazon.ca for $89, many people managed to snag it before they took it off.

I cant believe I am saying this but I would be tempted to buy an Xbone for a 1080p 60 FPS Red Dead Redemption.

The rest of the games on that list are available on PC and can probably run well on a toaster.

$150 and it doesnt even come with a rechargeable battery .....

The new controller looks amazing, but lol wtf at charging $150 for it.

The perfect Dark remaster is on there, which is a big win. Anyone who hasn't played that game or the N64 original is doing themselves a disservice. Probably one of the, if not THE BEST game in N64.

Ever used Steam?

In the past, "other" "premium" controllers from various platforms have been in the ~$200 range. $150 seems steep but in context its really not. If you want $99, wait for a sale.

Naw, it will be $99 when it launches. MS will lower the price.

Man just to see i looked at the gaf e3 thread, my god are those people the cesspool of gamers or what? Its pathetic how obviously biased they are

Cool story bro. Why even bring up NeoGAF in this thread?

This was definitely the highlight for today for me at least. Huge move in the right direction!

Feel this is a pointless thing for many Xbox users. Most will either keep their 360's , buy an Xbox One when its on sale this winter or wait for remasters.

I still have my 360 and I don't really see the big point. A limited number of games , software emulation (which you know will become an issue for many games and DLC).

You can even buy an Xbox 360 dirt cheap. Just isn't the "crowd" pleasing feature that it use to be.

Not interested about this at all. All Forza games are irrelevant to me. All Halo games are already ported. Only game I may want is Gears of War franchise but I don't really care for it and 1 I played on PC.

So this does nothing for me personally. X360 has always been a weak console. Bringing its games to Xbox One is whatever.

seems like a good time to do a bestbuy $150/100 off trade in upgrade to an XB1 for current 360 owners.

I will DEFINITELY be picking up Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 again... some of the best multi-player fun i've had playing online i've ever had. Terrorist Hunt was one of my favorites.

Yar, this would've been much bigger news had it been announced at the consoles launch. I view b/c more of a transitional feature to bide time while the new console develops its library.

Still, it's cool for MS to take the time to develop this feature. They've turned the whole XBone around for me. Just wish they would've put more horsepower into its specs instead of trying to squeeze Kinect into the package. Which reminds me: no mention of Kinect anywhere in that conference!

What a great announcement for people that haven't made the jump yet or gamers with large 360 libraries. It's good to see that MS is doing all of the heavy lifting in terms of the emulation process and just wait for approval from the publishers. I have a feeling next year at E3 that they announce PC streaming to the Xbox and complete the ecosystem.

Is it also compatible with original XBOX games?

Nope. Which is weird.

Xbox (x86) emulated by Xbox 360 (PPC) for backwards compatibility.

but no
Xbox (x86) emulated by Xbox One (x86) for BC.

Yes, there are more reasons than just similar CPU architecture. Just weird when you see it like that.

However, as a side note - Xenia, the Xbox 360 emulator, is doing very good currently. Some games are nearly fully playable, while others are just the intro. Still, a lot of progress. Still a long ways from being nearly perfect, though.

It's probably just not worth the time and money to create BC for the original Xbox.

Obviously this is cool. But I think people are significantly over reacting. There are only 100 games on the list that are backwards compatible. Remember the 360 had "backward compatibility" with Xbox and after a year or so they stopped adding games.

I can see Microsoft using this as a marketing tool to get people buy a One with their hopes of continued development of the backwards compatibility, then Microsoft stops developing it again.

exactly

Maybe, maybe not. Phil Spencer said it's easy to add new games. All publishers need to do is give the okay and all the game needs is a quick QA to make sure it works. There is no need to make game specific emulation or change any of the game code. The thing with emulating Xbox games on the 360 is that it had to be done on a game-by-game basis. Getting some games to work meant some others would work as well. With the XB1 they are emulating all the hardware of the 360 and running the 360 OS on top of that. It's tricking the OS into thinking it's running on native hardware.

Anyone ever think that maybe its the NVIDIA GPU's talking OG Xbox and PS3. Maybe just maybe emulating a power pc cpu isn't hard and the 360 unified ram and AMD GPU helped things.

Just guessing all i know is right now it work great and is better than paying "cough" to stream old games.

Not that i do i have all my systems still.

The thing we have to remember is that the 360 was a PowerPC platform so emulating was not nearly as easy as emulating from a fully working X86 platform like the Xbox One. The Xbox One is essentially just running a modified version of Windows. Think of how many consoles and games you can emulate on the Windows platform... dozens. Everything from Gamecube to Nintendo 64, Atari, to Gameboy... This backwards compatibility is a great move and I love the fact that Rainbow Six will include Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 for free. Been wanting to replay that lately and now I don't have to buy a 360 to do it.

Does Vegas not work on the PC? I own them on Steam and they have controller support.
