No, I'm going to fix it; however, I now know your theoretical front door would stay broken inviting the criminal passerby into you home.
 
if someone is sophisticated enough to break into the psn network and do what they did, you dont want to just patch the system to lock them out. you want to know who the hell they are!! and yes i do have a security background.

what if someone breaks into you house and dont destroy the lock? they just move one cup six inches to the left. do you go out and change all of your locks? no you wait for them to come back and catch them.

No, you set a trap. Since you claim to have network security experience I assume you know of the term Honeypot. Even beyond that if someone breaks into your network the CORRECT response is to fix the break in so it doesn't happen again. A company should be worried about their data and their customer's data before anything else. If security is compromised fucking fix it. Only a complete moron would sit around and leave sensitive areas of a network open to attackers.

ok. someone breaks into your network and steals everything, you say fix the flaws? ok that is great, but that doesnt do anything for you. they already have everything and they arent coming back now that they know you are on to them, so now what? put out a press release "yeah we were hack, they got everything, but dont worry we fixed the holes". thats great, now you'll never catch them.

Please stop pretended you know what you're talking about. I'm still in college for networking and I understand this shit better than you. If you really do work in IT I hope you don't have any security responsibilities.

If thats true the FTC and the Japanese government will have Sony's balls. They would have to employ some of the dumbest security people on the planet to leave a hole like that unfixed for a year.

PS: Before you think of attack college education: The security classes we're taught are so extensive and potentially dangerous that the school bought a $12k firewall just for two small rooms that my instructor uses.

so you think psn was hacked and they shut it down as soon as they found out?

why would the FTC and Japanese government have their ball if they were working with them to catch the people behind the attack?

i never said that they knew the holes were there for a year, i just said that is when they first broke into the network.

and on monday ask your teachers what they would do.
 
so if the hacker is in russia or china. the goverment is going to roll right up and ring the door bell and say.

Hi, we need this guy. i highly doubt that will happen. so who ever it is. i bet they are in a country, the U.S or other country cant touch them. you really think someone would be that stupid. we'll maybe they would but if its the same people who went after sony and is now hitting microsoft, i highly doubt they would be a in a county where they would be, in fed court for it, they would be in a country who is unfrindly to the U.S, There are some countries like that,

Of course not. Sony is saying they weren't aware until Monday that data was stolen. I call bullshit on that, but yeah.

The FTC and Japanese government both want answers from Sony about the attack.

Well then Sony's network security was complete shit if they didn't do anything to it within a year.

I don't have class until Tuesday, but if I remember it might be something worth discussing if we have time.

why dont they offer them a job, aleast they know nobody could hack there network again? i know it sounds stupid but its ture.

and i am never buying a ps3 or xbox. i will stay with my trusty pc :D

Microsoft has people who constantly monitor their software. Given what happened to sony they are in defcon 2 by now!

This thread is interesting and there is very little flaming going on. I don't see the problem. Quit crying wolf :) (not just the op, though he might be right lol)
