I can only speak for myself, but I strongly dislike the layout changes to threads/sigs/etc.

The left side of each post doesn't stretch down far enough so text wrapping gets all funked up, and the sigs are too small for my poor eyes to even read.

Anyone else w/ me or am I the only one who doesn't like it?

I believe previous threads discussing the topic have been closed. The site is trying some new things. I think Kyle wants people to give it a week or so, then voice constructive criticism if they still have any. It was sort of turning into a whine fest in the other threads. I think it was more out of shock than anything else.

the sig thing is ok, but I don't understand everything being out of alignment

same, looks extremely akward

well to tell you the truth, I'm ok with the sigs, they should just be white text though, but that size is ok with me. but the rest is just, wow...

sigs don't bother me either, but the out of alignment is really really annoying. is it because of the Monarch banner? can't it be moved to the top of the page instead of the side.

It makes the forum less... eh how can I say it... "easier on the eyes" ?

I like the change, but it's just not pleasing.

Yea, it hurts my eyes cause everything is so mis-alligned and stuff.

I just want things to look neat/even so it's easy to read.

I hate it too, atleast justify the text and sig to its not misaligned, i was about to start whacking firefox thinking it was my browser doing it!

The formatting is screwed for me, text is wrapping around funny and ending up underneath usernames

I remember when Kyle ripped on Anand for putting so many ads on his site. In fact, if you search through the archives, you may find it. I specifically remember ovals highlighting all of the ads.

And BTW, the layout is completely fucked up in Firefox.

THe other one was better. I cant read the sigs. And the add on the left screws up my viewing b/c im on a laptop

Not just firefox, but opera and IE, too (though I'm a FF user myself :D )

Why, God, why is the text formatting so fuxored?! Just please make the usernames have a column, please?

(fixed, OMG I was tired, apologies)

The ad is annoying, end of story.

The formatting issues can be easily fixed, and I'm really not sure why they havent been done so yet.

Move the grey area used for Name, location, age etc all the way down to the end of the page, and move the sig over. This way funky text wrapping issues are completely avoided. This will go a long way into providing a more even balance.

Also, if you're going to have that ad on the right, add one on the left, or do something there.... please. This actually, I highly suggest something like you have on the front page. Ads on both sides if you must, to just bring the actual content of the forums into the center, this will help a lot, and allow me to enjoy the thread and not be so annoyed by the ads that I just dont click on them.

The ad its self is not so bad IMO, but the effects it has on the layout is the issue. I believe one of my recomendations, especially the name column adjustment one if you do not add something on the left side, would go a long way in restoring balance.

I say kill the name box and make it inline with the horizontal red bar, or perhaps make a grey bar below that bar. (short row) If I werent on a laptop Id make a visual aide, but I think you get what Im saying.

Looks fine to me. Just change the color of username/rank box to mesh in a bit better, and it'd look pretty sweet.

I do like the username "grey box" idea, but maybe setting a standard width, so the text may still jump to the left when it's done, but the name/onlinestatus box is the same width for everybody. I don't care about the tabbing, just the fact that everyone has a name with a different width and it really messes things up.

I think that it sux also. I was browsing along on [H] and all of a sudden this happens. I was like "WTF MATE!" Then I see the gay ad banner and the tiny little username box. "OMFG!" Quite honestly there are very few site out there that are pleasing on the eyes. This one I have always enjoyed browing thru because it is very easy on the eyes with the darker colors and proper layout. I cannot stand browsing thru anandtech because of the pure white background and everything seems so cluttered. Please put this back to the way it was. Put the ad somewheres else so that the format can be reverted......

I think you mean like this:

If so I agree. Either that or change it back to what it was.

EDIT: You could put the online light and report button next to the user name.

That's what I think should be done, that way we would also have all the old information that went under the name items. This would also fix the wrapping issues.

And that was made with Paint so its not the highest of quality.

Also, thinking about it, the biggest text wrapping issue has nothing at all to do with the ad, but everything to do with the name column. I'm tottally confused why its done the way it is, makes no sense at all to me honestly.

Really, the forum ads are some of the least annoying on the net. My only hangup is the name box being in the corner and indenting the first few lines. But, nothing big. Some folks make it sound like they outlawed beer and meat or something. :D

Hell, I've been on and off the forum for a little while, and this new layout sucks...

I browse probably 15 message boards a week and nothing looks this horrid... It's extremely hard to adjust your eyes when the text wrappes around the name the way it does now...

Please, change it back...

Yeah, before this gets locked, I wanna toss up my gripes as well.

The alignment is killing my eyes, I agree with a couple of the previous posters, put something on the left side to even things out, another ad, some filler. . . something.

The hanging indentations caused by the name box is just as bad, have the name box extend down, across. . . just need to fix it so that the text forms a clean box.

I like how the sigs are handled though, they attract a lot less attention as they should.

i really dont mind the size of the sigs, in fact, i like that. theyre less distracting and i can tell better when the post ends and the enormous sigs start. the alignment thing is annoying the hell out of me though, i cant stand it. i thought my browswer was fuxored at first...

I love the sigs. The size is perfect, takes up alot less room, and I like the color. However, thats where it ends. The ad is anoying, but I can live with it. The formatting however, is horrible. Everything looks all screwed up. Make how it was before where the margin with user info, location, ect spanned the entire post, and I am perfectly content with the other changes.

^^^ - ditto.
This is all part of the streamlining process. A clean uncluttered look is the preference [h]ere.

Don't mind the ad (took me quite awhile to even realize it was there)
Like the sigs ;)

Immensely dislike the way type breaks under the name to the left
that is annoying and hurts readability,
as does having the starting point change with the members name length
if the left margin of the "copy" column could be maintained from top to bottom
I think the rest will grow on the membership
and anything paying for your posting privileges is a good thing

I have to agree with you. But I think they should make another ad on the left side to even out the page. It would be much more symetrical (and better looking) that way and would generate more cash for the site.

Don't like the new layout what so ever. Nothing is aligned, it is hard on the eyes. Sigs are too small and dark, can't see. Seems like they changed it so they can put the Monarch Computer ad in. On the right geez? bad spot! I feel like on a angelfire website (free web hosting) Probably getting paid to do it from Monarch though :p
