Wow what happened??

the ad on the side is ugly and the rest of the page goes down the tubes quick as a result (alignments, etc) -- it looks like crap on firefox 1.5beta/ubuntu 5.10.

i know ad's are good for the H, but man this one destroys the page layout of the forms real quick. why can't it be at the bottom or the top like usual? The only reason to keep this one would be so that if it fixed the 'ad-cant-load-so-the-post-editor-wont-either' problem.

The whole username block area - WTF is going on...fugly++

sigs are okay though...liking them alot :D

need some CSS polishing, and a lesson in site positioning and symmetry to fix the layout problems...

Cant the add some how be put in the middle of a thread or something instead of on the side? It off centers things a little too much.

Also the shrunken sigs are messing with my eyes for some reason.

don't mind the ad at all really... but the text wrapping is MESSED up... please please fix as the readability is TERRIBLE!

like the sigs btw, less annoying to read giant sig after giant sig :)

edit: and WOW colors are going to get annoying fast :p

i'm only back now because my interest was sparked by a genmay thread linking to a hardforum thread involving kyle basically telling guys to fuck off and go to genmay

Yeah, it's ugly as fk. Just dont post anything too offending about it, as some might have worked [H]ard on this new look... And they might be tempted to press the el banno button :) Kyle, already closed the past 2-3 threads on this? I think he's getting pretty pissed off. But, I like his wit, makes me smile :D

I've been coming here since the beginning. Wasting/stealing forum layout space for advertising kitsch is Kyle' biz but I don't like it & I can get my forum fix & tech info elsewhere.

It's a free country, but all those "rights" you have get taken away once you register to these forums ;) In reality, this isnt a Computer Enthusiast Site, but instead a business. Kyle, isnt here to make friends; the [H] is his main source of income. Therefore, I think he knows what he is doing. You dont get to "choose" the President of these forums and he doesnt have to put on a fake smile when giving an inaugral address ;) Kyle's Popularity Poll is definately up there :)

Been a long time reader of this site and only recently made an account. That aside
I have no problems with the ad on the right - on widescreen i hardly notice it, just the wrap like everyone has said before. sigs are fine, less obtrusive now.

Ads on the right side are fine(I would click these ten billion times to support the [H]), just need to fine tune the style of the forums a bit and everyone else here would be happy.

You never really value something until it's taken away from you :p

The post alignment is the only issue I have any care to complain about, and I have faith that it will be fixed by the end of the week.

If so I agree. Either that or change it back to what it was.

EDIT: You could put the online light and report button next to the user name.

^--- PERFECT!

This is DISGUSTING.

[H] = downhill for years now.

This is counterproductive.

The new ad is a pain but it's understandable, I wish the posts could wrap around it so there's not this funky margin down the side of the screen but, it is what it is.

Although I think Kyle's been less than professional telling people to go bitch at a forum he doesn't run I can understand him being tired of post after post of people telling him a bunch of crap that sounds like it was posted by grade schoolers (not in content but in tone).

There needs to be some sort of middle ground where the people that have dislikes can list them constructively and the administration can look this over and decide what the overall opinion is on what the likes are and what the dislikes are without telling the members to go jump off a cliff. Doing things like that results in people quitting (or getting pissed then getting banned for really going to an extreme) and this is self defeating in that the less the membership the less the revenue the ads generate ETC.

We're here because we like using this forum, it's a valuable resource. Because we're here we in turn become a valuable resource to the owner of the forum. The trick is to keep this continuing relationship mutually beneficial to everyone involved. Don't abuse Kyle, he has a lot of irons in the fire and he doesn't exist just to please us but on the other hand don't abuse forum members that come to you to voice a complaint because we make up part of your method of operation, each one of us is a cog in a bigger wheel and without us the rankings tank and advertisement value drops. I belong to a few other forums and out of those I enjoy the ones that I get treated with dignity in. I can accept a civil reply telling me that though something might bother me (and others) it is the way it is because this is the way it needs to be. I don't like being treated like cattle and with a dismissive air and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

Wow, that was beautifully put and I couldn't agree more. This is exactly what I was thinking but you just said it word for word. Maybe someone might listen. Thank you madmat for that perfect reply. I do like the changes made to the forum, however like I've said previously, that monarch ad is in an obtuse location.
:)

The thing I don't get is that the ad by itself was ugly, sure... But now what has been done to the actual posts is absoloutly disgusting. It looks like the layout was hacked together in 30 seconds before someone rushed out the door on their way to work.

I think the forums should be sent back to the way they were, and if an ad needs to be put up, get a horizontal ad and place it between, say the 1st and 8th posts in a thread, or something like that. Would really screw up the layout/useability a lot less. :)

What happened was change. Why does everyone have to complain and cry about it like a bunch of kids. One person says something, everyone has to voice their DAMN opinion.

You guys have a problem with trying to make you criticizm sound a little more constructive than destructive and childish.

1 post is enough, leave it at that. Kyle will tell you why he did what he did if need be. Until then, we don't need a bunch of kids crying about it, especially in a forum such as this one.

This is not your house for you to complain, do it in your IM of choice or your website, not this one !!

Some of you are definitely spoilt !!

As for unknown-one. I like that design. ;)

WOW. thats not bad at all. I'd like to browse around with it looking like that for a little bit though. In fact I think I like it!!

Imagine that, DAMN opinions in the FEEDBACK forum

That's exactly what I was imagining... and 10x the better of how it is currently layed out. Actually utilizes the horrid white space and offsetting created by the ad column and re-aligns the text.. FAR easier to read paragraphs and lists this way.

I like that one too, good layout idea.

Unknown-One is onto something good. The symmetry in that layout is maintained, and the ad is still visible. We read things in English from left to right, so why not have the ad on the left for users to see first? I personally do not mind the ad itself, but it's placement and the formatting of the username fields (text wrapping over to the left = bad) is completely messed up.

this looks like a browser is fucking up.. not like somebody actually bothered to design it like this.

this looks like garbage.

Please take the forum back to the original idea with the ad on the side before the username boxes and sigs got messed with.

I think we all could live with that better than what it is now.

If this forum layout does not fit your needs, feel free to leave your comments and complaints here.

A big thanks to John, our resident VBull Guru. If you have work that you need done, PM John.

If you would like your money back for your GenMay sub, please send me a copy of your paypal reciept, and we will give you your cash back and delete your account so we can all start fresh. Email me at kyle@hardocp.com.
that was kyles post from the genmay thread about this topic, if you are going to bash it at least give some recomendations on what can be done to improve the layout. Anyone that has ever run a site of any kind knows that it takes time to implemnt new features, content or ADs, right now I am sure they are working hard to get it all sorted out and make everyone (or almost everyone) happy.
