Windows SMP client is now open beta.

That's all 4 going. I'll give it a run on my dual 5150s tomorrow to see what difference the 333 MHz makes, plus I need to let it finish it's current WUs. I just rebuilt the 5160s with Vista x64 this afternoon and got a nice present from Stanford to test it out with.

Hmm, lots of 0x1 errors, half a dozen so far. This *is* 32-bit compatible, yes? I thought this box was stable, perhaps it's time to re-investigate that.

Edit: Here's a screenshot. Nothing earth-shattering.

it's 32 bit compatible, yes. Generally 0x1 are MPI errors I think, you run the install.bet part/read the d-i-r-e-c-t-i-o-n-s? :p

Yes. I even got "If you see this twice, MPI is working
If you see this twice, MPI is working" at the end.

Re-downloading the core didn't seem to fix anything:

I saw this in the known problems:
"We strongly suggest people run this client on 4-core boxes. While it will run on 2-core boxes, we have noticed some potential problems (we are looking into these issues now)."

I'll try it here in a few minutes after this frame completes in my vmware box. I'm guessing C2D owners should wait til they iron out the dual core issues?

don't waste your time...stay with vm..bettter times

entered the rigth password right? Should have to get the MPI twice deal

Can try to uninstall mpi/re install mpi or register mpi (command line switches -register etc. Try a -? for options).

Stop client, delete the queue and work folders maybe.

Generally 0x1 is after the client has been running and you close it I think. Restarts were borking alll over the place before.

there are no dual core issues, PPD rocks from this and it works just fine.

Honestly, I've yet to see WTF they are talking about with dual core issues.

Yes, I created a new account for this and made sure the password was set right.

I watched Task Manager for a while while running this. First I get four A1 cores, which do some CPU work. Then one disappears after ten seconds or so, and the remaining three stop using CPU. After a minute or so two more go poof, then I get the 0x1 error and the last one closes. It's now hanging at "deleting current work unit".

add -verbosity 9
maybe more will show up as to the problem

mpi needs admin user interaction or something. is the folding user you created an admin?

While others has run this under a different user account, some work around was required. Try running is under user "will" and see how it goes. Your tripe nat should keep the box secure... :D Yea, ghetto putting the user password in the reg.

FFS sig updated.

I had to make the user account I gave FAH admin rights.

I'm back down to one NAT between me and real Internet while at home on Spring Break. It's scary

Well let's hope thats the case. I've loaded it up on my X2, so we'll see what she can do.

Can't run this as a service yet (w/o work arounds).

4x threads, runs just fine on dual core machines.

100% CPU usage unlike the nix client, is some hit on PPD on nix vs. Win clients-- no hard data to back that up yet.

~ 225+ meg RAM usage

Follow the directions for the mpi install stuff, #1 problem causer I think. Need to have password on user account this is run under.

In essance it's kinda like the GPU client with the command box always up. I have not looked into the work around for the service yet.

Thanks for the info Macaholic, you prick.

:p

I've got your service workaround, grant the account that you're running it under logon as a service in local security policy, and then just change the service entry to run under your local account instead of logon as system.

Finally I can run smp on my core duo laptop :) I was having the same problem as unhappy_mage, but running install.bat and hitting enter on all the defaults fixed it. I guess next time I should read the installation instructions.

Anyone else notice their CPU temps a bit lower running the SMP client? I seem to have a 5-7 degree C drop in temps over running two regular clients.

It's also eating up a bit of RAM. Then again, it's not really any worse than a couple of the bigpackets WU's at the same time. Then again, I did tell it it had a gig of RAM to play with. I'm going to have to find a way soon to upgrade to 2 gig.

Yeah, my boxes are definitely running cooler and quieter since the upgrade. Can't complain about that along with alot more PPD.

EMIII doesn't seem to work.

Anyone else having problems starting a second work unit after it finishes the first? I'm stuck on Extra SSE boost ok and it hasn't progressed after that.

3 hours 2 minutes for 4 percent. :( Swapping probably isn't helping, I'm at a gig of memory used with 512MB of real memory. Firefox with 100, uTorrent with 100, Visual Studio with 100, FAH with 400 megs, and misc stuff taking the other 300. Time to pay up for memory, methinks.

5160's 3036 sub 8/frame..day in day out.....

this is a client to filll the 32 bit windows machines........

We get the point. You don't like it. Now move on.

This is at least the 3rd time you've crapped in a thread saying how much you think it sucks. Go back to nix and let everyone else enjoy it.

I just setup Folding on this PC again because dealing with the multi-setup stuff was too much of a pain for a main working/gaming rig. Lets see how SMP pans out for me, hopefully really good! Considering I was running FAH on just a 2600+ Socket A for a month and a half or so instead of my 805D

@Flecom did you run the install.bat deal/get MPI registered etc? Almost all issues are MPI based/user accoutn based on MPI deal.

i cant seem to get it tow work with my dual cord p-d i keep getting a 0xf errors

Ah--that makes sense. It is a well-known issue with the other SMP clients that changing the network (e.g. disconnecting) can throw the cores off. It would not be surprising if the same is true for the Windows SMP core.

Me:

FYI in WIN SMP I disabled the LAN connection (right click>disable) and the client borked right away- command box still up but to CPU ticks going to )a1.exe's.

Started back up from check point which is cool.

touch the network connection/change IP maybe etc. and the odds are the client will bork out on you.

i think someone is trying to tell me to give up
I'm almost scared to think of what your PPD will become if you get a service version of this running on all those hundreds of dual-core boxen you have at your disposal...

I think im losing it I cant seem to find the download for the client on there site. Anyone have a link, or is this a invite only try of testing?

Blind as a bat Hella Derrrrr Found it
