WikiLeaks Founder Arrested

Draax is an individual. Governments are not. Furthermore, Draax is not in charge of making decisions that result in thousands of deaths and many more lives otherwise destroyed. It's a bogus comparison.

That's just it, if you posted all Draax's personal info: Name, birth date, SS#, address, mother's maiden name, employer and a video of him masturbating to <insert whatever>...he would have a different view of WikiLeaks.

False dilemma logial fallacy.

No dude... no.

If you saw the reaction to MANY MUSLIM COUNTRIES (afghan included) you would know that wikileaks and the internet get around the world in less than a day. There were HUGEEEE protests in the streets of these countries burning US flags and such the day after the big first leak they did.

No doubt, no question, that Afghan based troops were harmed because of it..... at least a few. Not to mention that it obviously means a ton of hate was generated to the US people for false reason (us included)

Also, this is supposed to be the real purpose of the leaks, not just ego-stroking:

The cables show the extent of US spying on its allies and the UN; turning a blind eye to corruption and human rights abuse in "client states"; backroom deals with supposedly neutral countries; lobbying for US corporations; and the measures US diplomats take to advance those who have access to them.

This document release reveals the contradictions between the US’s public persona and what it says behind closed doors – and shows that if citizens in a democracy want their governments to reflect their wishes, they should ask to see what’s going on behind the scenes.

Every American schoolchild is taught that George Washington – the country’s first President – could not tell a lie. If the administrations of his successors lived up to the same principle, today’s document flood would be a mere embarrassment. Instead, the US Government has been warning governments -- even the most corrupt -- around the world about the coming leaks and is bracing itself for the exposures.

Draax is an individual. Governments are not. Furthermore, Draax is not in charge of making decisions that result in thousands of deaths and many more lives otherwise destroyed. It's a bogus comparison.

All the more reason that some government secrets should not be revealed. The release of the information has a greater impact than just releasing information on an individual.

Is that really the best you have?

No, not the best I have, but that is all the time I will be spending replying to you. I know when not to argue with a tree. You need to start assuming that all your assumptions are not correct. ;)

Draax is an individual. Governments are not. Furthermore, Draax is not in charge of making decisions that result in thousands of deaths and many more lives otherwise destroyed. It's a bogus comparison.

I thought it was a good comparison. And you never know... Draax could very well be an informed top secret classified spy for someone. :D

Seriously though, how can you say its not comparable? It doesn't matter if its Ronald McDonald, or Obama..... nobody wants semi-truthed info blasted about them all over the world in one day. That's what wikileaks is doing if you didn't know.

Is that really the best you have? Ad hominem and false dilemma logical fallacies.

For a site which prides itself on "apples-to-apples" comparisons" it amazes me how you can very clearly make an "apples-to-oranges" comparison, so readily, in the suggestion that posting my personal information is somehow on par with wikileaks posting the information they have.

I expect better.

It doesn't take a logical argument to prove that some things are just wrong. We are not robots or computers; we are people who lead inherently illogical existences. Save pure logic for a mathematics proof. Pure logic does not and never will work in politics or government. Governments do things, both good and bad, that defy logic on a daily basis.

The truth hurts.

It may a more immediate pain to our society, but keeping the truth may prolong a much longer lasting, deeper pain. We aren't as sensitive to this, becasue it's gradual, like a rotting away of flesh, but it's usually good to try and stop it.

Anyways, that just IMO. I can understand how Kyle, Steve, etc. feel, but I don't think they are winning the argument here anytime soon.

Regardless on how you feel about the site, I'd be willing to bet money he didn't rape anyone.

I heard he has an insurance file which is 256 bit encrypted that if anything happened to him it would be released to the world lol.

Obviously you do not go to any news site, never watched any news channels, or even went to google news or yahoo.com cause it's blasted on the front page of all this stuff.

You might call me a loser who doesn't get out.... but it takes 10 seconds to check the latest Google news all over the world via my phone lol. And I do it when I'm waiting for somebody/something all the time.... you should to man.

How can you never of heard of wikileaks? Do you just play games and come here, and that's it? lol
Seriously was this post really necessary?
I just asked a simple question, no need to be a douche about it.

Oh my God! What a thing to say! The guy is a hero. Maybe you just don't see the real harm that your country is doing to the world.

And people keep shrieking and howling about "neo-cons". Hilarious, considering that the opposite stereotype is being played out every third post.

ok im going to be as pragmatic as i can be with this one.

i wouldnt begin to tell you how to run your site. but do you think that kind of post is appropriate on here? furthermore, what the hell are you doing even posting news about this sort of thing here. you started this place as an overclocking and hardware performance site. [H] Consumer dies but political news is ok?

I'm just saying in my opinion, this thread right here should be viewed as an opportunity for you to evaluate a few things that that happen around here, like posting news completely unrelated to the spirit of the site on the front page.

as far as your post. it's dissappointing. really really dissappointing.

That big red X in the upper corner of your browser will fix all your issues you have with how we run the place.

Funny how it just so happens the ''rape'' charges come up just as he's leaking more info. lol

They actually threw the case out at first, but just as the new leak got out, it just so happened another judge popped up and threw the case back into court.

Here's the first. There are others. There will be more.

That's not a source, that's a blog, quoting how someone "might" be hurt or has been "put in grave danger".

Except that he's a Minister of Defense for Israel. Everyone in Palestine knows who he is, and he's had a target on his head long before that.

Oh, and you mentioned "nuclear launch codes" again. Let's repeat this slowly:

THERE ARE NO "NUCLEAR LAUNCH CODES" IN THESE PAPERS.

A list of "strategically important locations" are not "nuclear launch codes", and that's the worst thing you're going to find. If a "terrorist" couldn't figure out that a Nuclear Power Plant or Oil Pipeline Junction was a good target before this leak (and considering the leak lists no specific addresses, at most just cities, so you need Google Maps to find these places, which anyone could do anyways), well, then you're really not giving them as much credit as I think they deserve, since they've managed to get NATO into a nice quagmire in Afghanistan.

Here's the first. There are others. There will be more.

Okay, so in this instance I concede that wikileaks did post personal information. However the point still stands, it is uncomparable to posting all unrelated personal information. Which brings me to "likely first victim", he still isn't a victim.

And I also read the one where 1300 people were killed 'because' of his leaks, well no not because of his leaks but because people found out the truth and lashed out, maybe if there were no secrets in the first place.

The truth hurts.

Amen. Quite frankly, I hope he does release the insurance file key.

Oh my God! What a thing to say! The guy is a hero. Maybe you just don't see the real harm that your country is doing to the world.

You really just lost my respect. But hey, fuck me, and anyone that disagrees with you and "the American way" these days.

A hero? Sorry, but no. A hero is not someone with a blatant disregard for human lives. He has never once acted in the manner befitting of a hero. He is a prick and doesn't care for anything other then his own inflated ego and being publicly known. No matter what bullshit he has said to try to make him look noble and righteous its utter bullshit. How would you feel if he somehow managed to release information that could lead to the deaths of people you care about? Because with this attitude towards the information he finds or is given that is entirely possible.

So what country are you from that has such a clean and perfect government? If you want to look at countries doing harm to the world, there are a few higher on the list than the USA.

That's not a source, that's a blog, quoting how someone "might" be hurt or has been "put in grave danger".

I like the glib dismissal of analysis based on its site being a "blog". Very cute.

Except that he's a Minister of Defense for Israel.

No, he's a Minister of Defense for Lebanon. Next time, read more than three disjointed words. If you know anything about Lebanon, you would know now that this guy's life isn't worth a penny.

A list of "strategically important locations" are not "nuclear launch codes", and that's the worst thing you're going to find.

But they are critical to the security of the United States, and are now prime targets for anyone who wants to hurt the United States. But, you know, that's a good thing, right? Because no country should be able to keep anything secret when there are forces out there that want to destroy it, right?

Oh...and great. No nuke codes this time. Because wikileaks is certainly, after this, not going to make any more efforts to post confidential data, right?

Who cares.

Are you still in high school? WHO CARES about people from the US? Especially people defending your goofy ass.

So sad..... why do all these kids think this wikiguy is some type of Robin Hood? He's more like the kid who cries Wolf. Lies, lies, lies. Then when something bad happens he'll be crying, watch.

I bet something happens within 1 week to him. If you're running from multiple countries for secret data leaks.... why would you turn yourself in for a sex charge, especially when "it wasn't rape" he claims.

I want to see the lady who had sex with that sunless, 100 pound guy. He makes me look like Hulk. How about he leaks some data on that one!

Indeed. However, i wouldn't put it past the douche.

I tend to err on the side of caution here.

The problem with all of this nonsense, as you can see in this thread is that we get the same arguments pro and con that's been regurgitated by both sides of the issue.

The new power in the US is polarization, and this thread is a perfect example.

No one thinks for themselves anymore.

And I also read the one where 1300 people were killed 'because' of his leaks, well no not because of his leaks but because people found out the truth and lashed out, maybe if there were no secrets in the first place.

Right. So there should be nothing covert to begin with. The United States should not do anything in secret, because every other organization in the world does everything in the open, and the United States will be fully able to protect itself without secrecy, right?

Jesus Christ on a cracker, the internet is just filled with people who live in little, secure, safe bubbles where they can armchair quarterback geopolitics with ease, and this Assmange shithead is the A1 head motherfucker in charge of them.

And there are others who think that the US Government can do no wrong, that has the right to do whatever they please in the name of so called "national security" and can generally create destabilization around the world in the name of "democracy."

Both ideals are total fucking bullshit.

Regardless of what one thinks about Wikileaks, isn't the reason why he's wanted is because of some rape charges and has nothing to do with Wikileaks?

How does anyone knows if these charges are true?

Even IF I don't support what he does, I will never support ANY government using tactics like this to bring a person down. So I'll just wait and see if there's even any truth in those allegations.

If he's wrong for releasing those info, then he should be charge for that, not with some false accusation. Just saying.

The government does not run its policy transparently. Anyone who shines some light on it is a journalist revealing info, in my opinion. People like Bradley who gave the info to Wikileaks might have broken the law, but don't tell me we should start burning people on the stake like some Paki/Afgani Taliban regime.

Most of the cables did not reveal anything that was not widely know, if only locally (not by the US public). The accusation about people's lives being put at risk is just something that a populist politician would say without backing it up with data.

I find it strange how many people trust the MAN! I think that's what must have happened back in the day in Germany ... Or in Spain during the inquisition. How can Kyle equate privacy of an individual to the transparency of government? That's not very well thought out.

"In a free society we're supposed to know the truth. In a society where truth becomes treason, then we're in big trouble. And now, people who are revealing the truth are getting into trouble for it."

I would suggest that this is more of a sign of people thinking for themselves.

Perhaps you do not, however, every time I see a pro argument for "executing" this guy, I feel like I'm watching fucking Fox News.

People have strong opinions on this stuff and yes there are plenty of people who will say shit just because its whats they heard on some bullshit news station (not just Fox, all of them). I have my own strong opinions on the subject, which I've been sharing. Its rude and incredibly disrespectful of you to insult every single person in the thread and make the assumption that they're not capable of thinking for themselves.

Yep pretty much, but the two issues are both merged because people think it could be a fix up to get him for something rather than nothing.

Also :

"Apparently having consensual sex in Sweden without a condom is punishable by a term of imprisonment of a minimum of two years for rape. That is the basis for a reinstitution of rape charges against WikiLeaks figurehead Julian Assange that is destined to make Sweden and its justice system the laughing stock of the world and dramatically damage its reputation as a model of modernity...."

So not rape per se.

Wow!!! Another voice in support of big brother, coming straight from... Texas!?!?! Who would have thought!

There is a difference between disapproving *some* of the things he's doing and "supporting big brother"

His release of the security plans, daily routines and failsafes to protect the Pakistani president is a good example that endangers many peoples' lives and doesn't "confound the machine" in the "little brother" sense.

Many of his releases are important information leaks; others are dangerous and malicious.

I wanted this guy gone from the getgo, but he really crossed the line when the strategic sites list was released publically. When you put millions of lives on the line with shit like that, its time to be taken out.

Do you want to back that up? A cobalt mine in Congo? Fiber optic cables under the sea? Where exactly are they? I mean, yeah why don't you go scour the ocean and find them. I went to look at the actual leak and found that you are a parrot who just repeated something you heard on tv: here read from the source

Both ideals are total fucking bullshit.

Not saying that nation-building is right, but as long as damn near every country in the developing world continues to demand billions in international aid from the US every year, I'd say the US has the privilege to ensure its security.

Could someone point to a dangerous leak, please? I've been reading for days and I just find it boring and only mildly informative.
