Given that I've owned a set, not me. That's not to say anything bad about them because my experience with them was flawless. In fact that was probably the most problem free video card setup I've ever had. The main reason I don't remember them all that fondly is because they really didn't provide enough power for games at 2560x1600. I wasn't really happy until I had 8800GTX's in 3-Way SLI. Hell even then I still wanted more for a couple of games. Then I moved to GTX 280's etc.
 
I own a voodoo1 (which needed 2d card) a voodoo2 (I think also needed 2d). I remember playing ff7 on the voodoo1 jerky as hell, voodoo2 smoothed it out but was a big card. Then got the voodoo 3 3000 which was 2d and 3d in one. The voodoo3 I thought was doing well but obviouly the high end cards completelt failed and 3dfx died a very fast death. I think ultimately challenging directx was the killer.

I still have Tseng 2D card and Voodoo 1 ;)

But after i bough 9700 vanilla next card i got was 7600 gt :)

Well, it certainly made me remember how awful my nVidia Riva128 was at 3D! Unreal was the shit on Direct3D, and Quake II was the shit in OpenGL with that card (OpenGL was a work-in-progress for nVidia back then), so I finally broke down and got a Voodoo 2 to just play those two games in decent quality.

Ah, those where the days. We were not as spoiled with great 3D-games back then, and Quake II made quite an impression on me, was even dreaming about it after a full day/night of playing. :D

BTW: I think a had a Intel Pentium P266 to go with those card?
 
Oh, and when we're on the topic of missing old beasts: I got the Riva128 card after a review on Toms Hardware! Man, is that site online? And BIG FAIL on me for going there for advise, but it was back in 1997 after all. :rolleyes:
 
Brings back lots of memories. Thinking back to when I had an old Super 7 MB with a k6-2 450 and a Leadtek geforce 2 gts. Half-life never looked so good.

The X1950XTX was one of the biggest let downs I ever installed into a machine. Mine ran super hot, and was one of the loudest cards I've ever owned. It was out of control loud at 100% fan speed, which it was at whenever it was running it seemed.

The 8800GT was a huge upgrade for me.

My first video card I can recall buying was a Canopus Pure3D 6MB. I think it was 149.99 at the time, and I was probably 13 or 14...so it was a ton of money for a kid to be spending back then. I don't even remember how I saved up enough to pay for it, but I did. All the other 3dfx cards at the time only had 4mb of memory, so the Canopus was hot shit.

It had video out, and we used to play quake on the 32" TV my parents had in the living room (in retrospect, the TV was huge!) - the desktop was so blurry it was unreadable, but we still thought it was awesome.

Hell yeah. The Monster3D was the first, but the Canopus stomped it into the ground.
 
I wasted A LOT of time on HEAT.net. :D

If I could find a V5 6K, I'd frame it and hang it on the wall.

It was my first video card I ever bought for my PII-400, ran 2 of them, still got them............UT was awesome to play, then went to the V3, V4, and V5, got them all in their boxes still!
 
Oh man. What a stroll down memory lane. Unreal and Need for Speed 2 SE looked awesome on my Voodoo Banshee on a Pentium 233, a whole 32 megs of ram in a TYAN 1571. I had the best rig in my circle!

I still have a Voodoo 3 3000 in both AGP and PCI. They're in a box with my AWE32 soundcard with 8megs worth of 30 pin SIMMS. I just decided to frame them and hang them on the wall above my LCD's. (Kyle, my wife hates you for giving me the idea)

Hell, I'm adding an ASUS P3B-F, a slot 1 and socket 370 P 3 800 and a TYAN 1854. All still working.

Man video cards had awesome names back in the 90's.Names like Prophet, Viper, Anihillator Pro, Rage Pro, Voodoo and so on.

My favorite is still the Hurcules Terminator Beast.

Now there just numbers.... no more creativity :(
 
GLquake on the voodoo1, then watching it do 120 on SLI voodoo2's was a piece of history I'll personally never forget.

i think i had one of the few working cards out there.
it ran at the factory recommended overclock of 675mhz core for the entire time i owned the card. 4/28/07 to 1/7/10. the only game that ever crashed it was crysis, but with a modified fan profile, i was just fine.

what i dont miss is all the damn heat that damned TEC cooler pumped out. my core may have only been 60-65C, but the side of my case was hot as hell.

My first 3D card was a 4MB Diamond Monster 3D. I distinctly remember telling everyone the next day that Unreal looked like a $500,000 coca cola commerical. It was the only computer graphics comparison i could make. I'd never seen graphics that awesome from a single PC before.

Let's see if i can remember this: 4MB voodoo, 12MB Voodoo2 SLI, 16MB Riva TNT, 32MB GeForce, 64MB GeForce 2 Ultra, 128MB GeForce 4 TI4600, Radeon 9800 Pro, Radeon x1950XTX, 512MB GeForce 8800GT, 1GB GTX280, 1.5GB GTX 580

It's amazing to see how far we've come.
 
X1950XT-X old, lol'ed. You've started a 'my PC's older than yours' contest here, plenty of people out there are still using X1950s today!

I would guess that top card is a TNT2. I used to have one identical to it. Sad I threw or gave all that away. I wonder who I gave my tyan mobo, and dual 600mhz coppermines to? Damn I spent a lot of my college loans on that stuff.
 
Ah, a nostalgia thread.

Fond memories not just of running Voodoo 2 SLI, but seeing giant boxes of PC games in stores, with real manuals. And the box art for a revised edition of Mechwarrior 2 showed off the pretty clouds only available with 3dfx cards...those were the days of PC gaming at its apex.

I also enjoyed epoxying low-profile copper coolers to the Geforce 2, 3, and I think 4 series cards and slapping 92mm fans on them for less noisy gaming.
 
I am still running my Radeon x1650 and my Radeon AIW 9800 Pro. Not super old but they are both AGP. Upgrade coming very soon.

I do recall my RIVA TNT 16MB card. That really got me into PC gaming. Rainbow Six......ahh the good old days! I had added a fan to the gpu and added heat sinks to the ram to try and get it to clock a little higher.

Anyone remember the Matrox cards? Had a few of those in machines plugging away at RC5 cracking.

Kyro 2, I forgot about those. Those were the first cards to use tile-based rendering, right? I had one of them too, dunno where it disappeared off to.

The Kyro2 was the 3rd, there was an Initial PowerVR addon card that was similar to a Voodoo1 (it did 3d only).. it didn't require any dongle or anything like that.. just plugged it in and installed the drivers.. I've been looking for one to add to the collection but so far no luck in finding one that isn't over priced.

There was also a Kyro1 and then the Kyro2..
 
Ah, the Voodoo 2, my first graphics card. After using my parents 386 for so long, the idea of using a seperate card for graphics was so cool :)
I miss those days...

hahaha i have one of those voodoo 3 3500's with that huge freaking pod thing. the card was pretty damn big till voodoo 4 came around. if i remember you couldn't even cut it off without doing some mods to the cables so i just left it alone. they got so hot because they didn't have a fan on them.

mlambert890 i remember the creative EAX vs Aureal A3D. aureal had EAX emulation so it was best of both. i still have 2 aureal vortex 2 cards around some place. drivers for winxp never came out so they never got used again.
 
for sound I had few of creative cards

soundblaster pro
soundblaster awe64
soundblaster audigy2
soundblaster xifi music - current card

in my view the audigy2 has crisper sound than the xifi.
