Watch Dogs

So is this game worth trying? I have sli 780s and play at 1440p. I can also buy it on ps4 since I'm reading so many negative comments about the pc version.

I run it on a single 780 and on High rather than Ultra. I am probably some 20-ish hours into it and it still holds my interest to see how the main story line will conclude.

I am OK with not being able to play it on Ultra, and playing on High is 100% stutter free for me.

The game has its flaws, like hacking civilians becomes pretty useless very early on in the game since you don't need any money. I am sitting on over 600k with nothing to spend it on.

But, I think if you can get this in the $15-$25 range it is worth buying. Ebay should have PC codes for about that. I wouldn't pay full price, though if you buy it for the PS4 you will still have some resell value. The promo codes you get on Ebay won't work with Steam, but you need UPlay either which way so it's a wash.

Ah ok, I suppose for $15-20 it's worth a shot. Is there any hope that the 2012 E3 patches will become stable enough to use?

If anyone's looking I have a Uplay code selling for $25.

I bought the Nvida Uplay code from someone here at [H] on Day 1 for $25 and feel it was worth it for that price...definitely not worth full price ($60)

dark souls 2 is probably one of the only games that's been released in the last five years that was worth full price. watch dogs is not one of those games.

I really wish that there weren't so many problems with the game because it looks like it would be a badass game to play.

I just can't swallow paying full price for something that has so many issues. Maybe if they fix the issues I'll bite. I hope they do, because I want to try it out.

Story was enjoyable. Wasn't the best told story, but it was good enough for me. I wish I could make Aiden Pearce commit suicide; I despised him. I was a bad guy at the end, but I doubt it will have any bearing on Watch Dogs 2.

I just finished the game and I liked the story too, overall the game was well done except that most non-plot aspects became too repetitive and not worth doing just a couple three hours into the game.

As far as Aiden goes, he did what needed to be done. It wasn't pretty but it is what it is. There are few bonds stronger than family, and I wouldn't blame anyone for doing anything and everything to protect theirs. That's all Maurice tried to do too.

Going by UBISOFT's track record, the best you can hope for is that the new 8GB Nvidia and AMD cards can eliminate the stuttering. Or you can turn the graphics down a notch and have fun. :)

Well usually in these types of games I would try to minimize killing civilians and cops. The game would randomly stutter so bad that I couldn't help but run over people. I just got mad and murdered everyone in the end. It was the only way to do the chase missions. So in my mindset Aiden was the worst mass killer of all time.

:)

even without the stutter it's almost impossible not to kill civilians with some of those Fixer missions...a lot of the shortcuts require you to run over people in order to beat the timer or evade the police/gang members...I went from a Vigilante to an Anarchist within a few missions

Is this game a shit or it only requires a PC better than mine?
Does it run at 60FPS with a GTX780Ti SLI?

On my GTX580SLI is unplayable with low texture, FXAA and low hbao.

10 hours in it lost my interest. Driving is 100% more doable and fun with my gf's ps4 controller hooked up.

Uninspired. Overhyped. Underdelievered.

I'm been focusing on the side missions and I'm almost done with all the Fixer contracts, Gang Hideouts and Criminal Convoys...but damn the last few missions in each category are really difficult...the last few Gang Hideouts involve 'knocking down' 3 enemies within a giant maze of an area...the Convoys involve knocking down 2 enemies while a dozen armored enemies surround and open fire on you...and the last few Fixer Contracts require pretty much perfect driving around tricky areas with lots of obstacles and tons of cops chasing you

The first Gang Hideout I did was an open area with 3 people I had to knock down, I thought that was a beginning one and I kept going at it until I went in ther and could do it without being spotted..after that all the other Gang Hideouts were cake.

the difference between the first few Gang Hideout missions and the last ones are the areas are much bigger...spotting 3 enemies in a small area is easy enough but when you have to travel around huge places with multiple floors/levels, take elevators, lifts etc it becomes more of a challenge

The difficulty changes by location on the map, each island dictates the difficulty.
I think the wards is the easiest and it gets harder as you go north with Pawnee being the most difficult. This is true for all side activities.

I didn't notice much of a difference with any of the gang hideout or convoy missions.
Just tag everyone, pick them off with a silenced weapon (from a distance), then sneak in and knock out the targets.

For convoys all you have to do is a crash a car head-on into the target's vehicle. Then hop out and knock him down... Done.

and then proceed to die to the other 10 guys in the convoy. is there a way to reset the side activities? the gang hideouts and convoys were pretty fun and i'd like to play them again without losing all my other progress.

I don't think you can reset those.

For convoys I mostly used IEDs for take downs, for knock downs I create a choke point with a truck, IED'd the first convoy car, and then rammed the target vehicle.

Convoys where IMHO the most fun because you could really get creative and add a lot of complexity if you'd want to.

convoys are relatively easy because all I did was stay in my vehicle and ram the cars and run over all the enemies on foot except for my targets which I save for last for knock downs...just ram them and back up /move the car...also switch cars once your vehicle gets damaged...sometimes it gets tricky because of all the gunfire and the gang members sometimes accidentally run over/kill their own guys (including the targets)

I find the Fixer Contracts where you have to evade the cops/gang members and then get to a specific point on the map in your car before they scan and find you again the most challenging...if they scan and find you then the drop off location disappears and you have to evade them over and over which was annoying at times

Disable SLI

Convoy's, grab the armored car (Ever wonder why it was called Convoy?) from Car on Demand app, ram into said cars until the "Knock Out" target is the only one left, hit focus and watch the slow motion beat down.

As for Hideouts/Towers etc, unlock your CTOS scan, and the game basically is handed to you.

You can't, you arrive to the "Convoy" in your armored car, start it and there you go. If you fail, quit mission get a new one and repeat.

Like so.

the Fixer Contract missions seem to respawn forever...you get the 'End of the Line' Achievement after completing 40 of them but after that new ones still pop up on your map...the Gang and Convoy ones end after you complete a set number of them

I think the fixer contracts just loop back to the beginning again since you can see them from your phone.
There are a limited amount of them.

unlocking the CtoS watch towers was not too big of an issue but damn 1 of them (the last one for me) was tricky...I actually had to look it up online after trying to figure it out for 15 minutes...you actually need to drive a car onto one of those shipping carrier lifts and ride it up to the top and crash it through the gates...all of the other towers were just a matter of finding the right cameras but this one was weirdly tricky

I figured that one out on my own and I felt so proud cause it took me awhile for that one too. Then it just dawned on me "Why the hell is this stupid car just randomly placed here?" and connected the dots..

That one took me awhile as well but I didn't have to look it up! :p

There are a couple also where you have to blow something up to break the fence or something like that, but those are a little easier because you see this one random "Explode" item inside the fence and it's like, "hmm...what could that possibly be for..." :D

So I bought this today and so far so good. I didn't have any stuttering when driving. I only played up to my safe house, but so far so good.

FWIW I only have a gtx 460, so my graphics aren't anything amazing.

The stuttering occurs for those that have < 4GB cards when playing on maxed out graphics. The texture detail setting is what hits the performance really badly with stuttering. I get stuttering even with my dual 4GB 680's.

Is it just me or is everyone who bitches about stuttering on an Nvidia card?

I don't stutter one damn bit ever unless you count the crappy P2P connection, with multiplayer, in that case I rubberband, stutter, lag etc.

It's because Nvidia cards have gimped VRAM.
AMD counterparts from the same tier have +1 GB extra. Otherwise, memory bandwidth issues? ;)

Stuttering was crazy the last time I played this game with a 290 on ultra, so no it doesn't only apply to nvidia cards.

it's most definitely memory bandwidth. there was a guy with a titan complaining about stuttering, although it only has 32 GB/s less than a 290/290X. the 780 Ti has more at 336, has anyone with one of those complained about stuttering? either way, it doesn't make sense that such a small difference could make the game such a mess. ubisoft can't make a proper game engine to save their life. first anvilnext, now this.

I figured the car-container tower the first time I scanned the cameras. I am more intelligent than you suckers.

:p

Loving the game. Onto Act 4 now. Didn't do side missions thus far.

I most definitely experienced stuttering, only when driving. It wasn't the 'rendered my game unplayable' stuttering that others have mentioned, but it was pretty obnoxious.

Regardless of the technical reason behind why the engine in its current state stutters, more importantly this is indicative of the developer's willingness to optimize for PC setups.

If I recall correctly, you were the only one, even after you disabled crossfire, which still makes me wonder whats going on in your box.

Even if you read the [H] performance preview, their results are similar with mine, now that its dialed in, its smooth.

The memory bandwidth gap isn't that large like you said, so it really doesn't make sense, but its got to be the 3GB of VRAM it eats as even [H] had performance issues with the 780Ti.

I guess that's why I dominate online racing then, when I'm not lagging lol.

My 660Ti also has 3GB of VRAM and it also stutters when trying to use Ultra textures. Lowering to high fixed essentially all performance issues for me.

No way I'm the only one. Here's from some quick googling

I even posted in that thread

Fun game, but cause of the shit performance I haven't really played in a month. Mythical patch seems to never come either.

When was the last time you actually tried playing the "stuttering bag of dicks"? I can't pull up anything ubi related at work to read the links.
