Watch Dogs

that first patch was a major one...but it didn't fix the stuttering...nothing since then...I finished the game, got used to the stuttering and still enjoyed it overall but Ubisoft really needs to release another major patch soon before people give up on the game...or at least update people on the status of it

Ubisoft doesn't care if you give up on the game. They have your money and it's now past any return window. The designers (the passionate ones) may care if you play and enjoy, but upper management could give two shats as long as they got the money. I bet the people who were doing the patch are now redeployed to Watchdogs 2.

I can picture some unpaid intern being brought to a cubicle with stacks and stacks of papers, only to be told "we need you to fix these issues and complete a patch, chop chop". Meanwhile, his boss realizes that having his unpaid intern fixing bugs means he has to get his own coffee and work his own stapler, so he quickly pulls him from the project. After all, they already have your money, so why bother?

We badly need someone to create a Dilbert-esque comic/show but with game designers.

Anyone else just get a 60MB patch? Can't find anything about it.

Looks like there was a small patch today:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/906979-Watch_Dogs-PC-Patch-(2014-07-29)

so they finally got around to addressing the biggest complaint- stuttering

"we optimized some of the performance issues that were causing some users to experience high amounts of stuttering while playing Watch Dogs...Instances of stuttering during gameplay should now be reduced, especially when using “High Textures”; however, some players might still experience some stuttering while playing with “Ultra Textures” settings on"

It looks like I will be getting into this game at the right time after this patch. I also wonder if there is much difference between high and ultra settings. Regardless, I believe the game looks better on PC high settings vs PS4 due to 1080p vs 900p. Anyway, I will post my impressions of how the game runs on a gtx 780 in a few weeks when my new rig arrives.

As someone with a 780: It runs like ass, at least prior to this patch. I don't have the game installed at the moment but with the previous patch, the mod from TheWorse, and the pagefile trick it still stuttered to point of being unplayable at High.

There is a difference in quality between high and ultra. Especially with the textures, Ultra are much much better. I wouldn't want to play this game at anything less than Ultra Textures and Ultra Settings.

hopefully people will post their impressions here of the new patch and whether it really improves the stuttering as much as some people claim it does...looks like Ubisoft is on the 1 patch a month cycle

Wonder if I should reinstall and attempt to play or wait until they patch the ultra textures/ settings etc.

I believe that's what HardOCP and everyone else with common sense has concluded.

Seriously I don't know how many times this has to be posted, but "The way its meant to be played" is not on nvidia hardware. Ultra per the new settings notes requires a minimum of 3gb of VRAM.

The problem isn't so much that it requires a lot of VRAM, but that it looks like shit for such a hefty requirement.

no existing video card by AMD or Nvidia can run the game on Ultra without stuttering...the 3GB VRAM requirement just seems like a way to get people to upgrade with no benefit...the game itself is the issue and requires fixing by Ubisoft...no drivers or amount of VRAM is enough to fix it...maybe the GTX 880 or Radeon 390X will be Watch Dogs certified cards

That is what we have the season pass for...with my luck the DLC won't be included which would piss me off.

Definitely won't be buying that. I can drive 7 minutes and do it in real life. :)

Camden is a shithole, but the nice parts are just like any other urban city.

I enjoyed the game more then most people but I have no interest in any of the DLC either...unless they come up with something unique it'll be more of the same hacking/driving mechanics with a new skin/location

I'm in NYC/Manhattan so I'm also familiar with those areas

I don't stutter and if you look back, others that OC'ed their ram on 290's don't stutter either but nice try sir.

Game never stuttered for me with textures on ultra. Played it two days ago, still ran smooth with an r9 290.

Many have problems with stuttering, but not everyone does.

With the new AC and Far Cry this Fall, who cares about watch dogs?

Don't like the Ass Creed series or Far Cry 3. I did finish Watch Dogs and enjoyed it although I hated the main character. Dragon Age Inquisition, Evolve, Project Cars, Civilization, and Borderlands Prequel are the big ticket items this fall for me. I'm already playing Project Cars though and it's darn fun.

I don't understood if it's my system.
Is there someone with a GTX780 SLI with a 1920 monitor?

Can you play this game maxed out with a GTX780 SLI at 60FPS?

SLI is screwed up in this game. It seems to create streaming issues when driving fast around the game world, causing stutters and other problems. It's well documented by various reviews and I've even seen NVidia acknowledge it (saying that the way the game engine streams is at fault). You may end up with a somewhat higher frame rate on paper but it feels way less smooth than with a single card. SLI needs to be completely disabled in the NVidia control panel to make the game run smoother. The latest patch seems to have helped slightly, but it's still not what it should be IMO. What's really crazy is that it sounds like R290s rule at this game and that crossfire sounds as though it works properly. The way it's meant to be played huh.

sounds like Tomb Raider which was an AMD sponsored game but ran better on Nvidia hardware...looks like the reverse with Watch Dogs where AMD cards perform better (probably due to the increased VRAM)

Im pissed... Cant play this game on max settings with a gtx 780... High settings look like sh*t in my opinion this is such a let down

Now that is has been out for a while...

Are there any performance improvements with patches and drivers? Would I be able to max out the game (with at least 2x FXAA) with the following PC:

i5 4670K @ 4GHZ
GTX 670 PE/OC 2GB
8GB DDR3
Crucial M500 SSD
Win 7 64 bit

And is the unofficial "E3 graphics" mod a must have? Is it stable and does it improve performance?

No you will not be able to max out the game thanks to mainly your vram amount.new cards launching next month so.. yes the upcoming patch will smooth some things out particularly while driving. and yes the e3 mod is a must have. if you have the pc version.
but yeah the vram issue is why i haven't picked up the game yet.(i wanna max out too)but once i get a 4gb card though here i come.

Any date for the next patch?

Might skip it if I can't get a smooth 40+ frame rates. It looks good, but nowhere near as good as Crysis 3/Metro LL. :p

The latest patch is supposed to fix stuttering problems on high graphics settings and below. Perhaps (hopefully) a future patch will fix the stuttering on ultra which persists for many. On the plus side high settings on PC still looks better than the PS4 version.

The most recent patch made things better, but it's still not what I was hoping for. I'm just going to shelve the game until I get a new video card. If that doesn't fix it...I guess I wasted $50.

R.I.P. Watch Dogs. Fucking Ubisoft, if it needed to be delayed then it should've been delayed. Don't fuck with The Division developers.

Does anyone know if uninstalling The Worse mod will affect my game saves? Tried it although the stutters when driving are just unbearable. Sometimes the game can hang 1-2 seconds.

Since the mod is mostly aesthetic, removing it shouldn't have any major impact on your game saves.
