Warhammer Online Thread!

Just going to chime in about the auction houses, in a way they make the economy easier for a lot of people but I'll always compared them to east commons tunnel of old EQ pre-bot sellers. That was a real interactive market where good deals could be found if you were willing to look for awhile, while WOWs AH is more of a "load auctioneer, set it up to make it so I can one click buy anything on the cheap". I got a kick out of both buying/selling systems, but I'd have to say the face to face selling adds another layer of depth to the game. It made it so someone starting out with a little money could get some really killer deals from the high levels who just wanted to make a couple plat and go back to raiding, and let you see a lot of neat-o "I'd like to have that some day" items with people wearing them and using them. The buying and selling in EC was one of the things that kept me playing EQ when the "we already have too many druids" raiding and solo grinding got too irritating for me.

So, I can't say auction houses are completely necessary to make a game complete, but they do allow for *hopefully* maximum profits for people...just takes quite a bit of the socializing out of the game.

He uses it. Main hand is also used, like for autoattack. The mutant hand even shows up as an equiped item when you mutate, it has +stats and everything. The graphic changes each time you mutate, one time it might be a bird claw, next time a big furry yeti hand, etc. Very cool class :D

Ya, the limb was bugged during the preview weekend. It's supposed to show up as an equipped item but didn't. So if you played a marauder during the preview they were kinda gimped.

Exactly, that's one of the main aspects I liked in EQ, UO, and SWG, the social aspect of actually talking to people, looking for things or selling them to people, etc.

AH's seem out of place in many mmo's set in a fantasy land and it takes away a regional based economy and puts it on a world scale and stripes away all the social aspects of it. You can find things quicker, but it just doesn't have the depth to it like the face to face buying and selling of the non-ah based ways.

Logging in to download the patch now before it gets swamped in the morning. 188MB file.

Who can get into the preview weekend #2 then? I've pre-orderd the EU regular version from D2D and have OpenBeta access on the 7th onwards.

I think the people in the first preview weekend get access to this preview weekend +. Not sure on that though.

Yeah, I got into the preview #2, but I was in preview #1. I think they were pretty happy with the amount of issues uncovered and the fixes that went in recently, and the ones that are going in, in the near future, so they want to test it out again.
To me it appears that the dev team is pretty confident about the product and they want to get it out there for larger amount of newbs to test it, like me. Specially things like class balancing, realm balancing, and stuff like that which is hard to do with a very size beta group.

I know this will be a silly question, but I need to ask it, just to be sure I have the right answer.

When I attempt to log in, it brings up the patch prompt, then shoots me back to the log in prompt. This is what I expect would happen, as I don't believe the Authentication server is up and/or they just won't let me log in since it's not the 7th yet.

Correct?

I saw this issue posted on the forums @ www.tentonhammer.com
I get this also.
Apparently this is normal and is due to the fact that it is just still too early.

any graphical enhancments? Haven't had a chance to check.

Not really. There are still issues with the textures looking blurry but it looks a little better than before. I don't think Mythic is doing anything more with the graphics to be honest but they haven't said a word.

That is normal for log in when you are not in the preview #2. Just wait for the 7th I guess.

As for the graphics, no, I don't think they are going to update them for the preview or beta, well maybe for the beta but I doubt it. The updated graphics and such will probably be on release or on the distrubuted DVD media or whatever. But I agree, the graphics look the same to me as the first preview...

I think the graphics look fine. Not amazing like AoC. I'd say about like LOTRO. I was pleasently surprised with how nice they do look when I logged in this morning. Heard so much bitching about how it looks worse than WoW. That's PURE garbage.

They have said and it has been adjusted, I just don't know if it's the preview client you are running. Though I hear it's in for the elder beta tester client.
Also not all the textures are in the game for the preview/open beta client. That client is under 10gb, the elder client is over 12gb. I think the retail box version is even larger which includes all the textures.

The minimum specs mention 15 Gbs required so we still have a few gigs of data to download for Live.

Yesterday I played dwarves alot and today I played empire. I like their starting
area. Right off the bat, my very first quest sent me into a
scenario(battleground). You can queue up for these by clicking the
icon on your minimap and selecting the one you want. You don't have to
go to anyone or go to a zone to queue up. When it does pop up you can
join instantly, have it wait a minute if you are finishing something
or cancel.
And thanks to the quest there is a story behind the scenario. It
wasen't just there for the sake of being there. It fit into the story.

It was on a small island that protects the coast from invading ships.
There were 3 objectives, lighthouse, keep and baracks. My character is
a warrior priest. The map isn't a carbon copy of the other side such
as warsong gulch, AB or EOTS. And the terrain and collision detection
do make for greater strategy. Also fights last longer, there are no
quick kills here. This isn't for solo glory, it's RvR, teamwork. And
without saying a word to each other we worked together better than any
WoW BG.

It was already more fun and more strategy than the majority of the
time i've spent in WoW BG's and even though i'd get a bunch of guys on
me I didn't die near as fast as you would in WoW. And I was level 1.
It's an awful lot of fun for just being level 1(though you are moved up to rank
8 for this scenerio)

When we finally won the scenario I was sent back to the exact spot I
was when I joined and was 1 point away from renown rank 2. But then a
minute later we got a message that order had gained control of the
world zone and now i'm renown rank 3. And that scenario quest I was
doing is also repeatable. Can't wait to see what goodies my renown
rank got me.

I don't think those on open beta will have the full graphics patch so
those playing will do so on "medium" settings. All those textures for
too large a download. But they still looked pretty good to me.
I don't care for the high or dark elf starting areas. My favorites so
far is dwarves, empire and greenskins. And even though I have played
both sides, empire and destruction it's harder for me to get into the
bad guys. I don't know why.

I did play a goblin shaman on the tier 1 dwarf/greenskin scenerio and we steamrolled them. Got 1 level on my character and 4 reknown ranks. It was fun.

I've been playing the elder client for a while and with the 4.1 patch, yes the game looks better but there's still a problem with the textures. On the beta boards, Mythic hasn't said anything other than "there will be a few more tweaks our artists have left". No word on higher res textures or any additional graphical features from what I've seen.

I don't have a complaint with the graphics (other than AA doesn't work with ATI cards and the blurry texture issue) but I don't expect the graphics to be magically transformed overnight.

Animations and spell graphic effects can improve. On the test server and regular beta they look the same to me. Really needs that last bit of polish.

I don't want spell graphics to improve, have you seen the lag they cause when you have 40+ people casting? even the best machines will be brought to a crawl.

If I remember correctly, they recently added an option to turn toggle spell effects for everyone, warband only, or leave them all on.

That would make things really nice, if that is the case, they could crank up the spell graphics a bit.

WTS SSB, FBSS torch1 pst ;)

I will always consider Everquest the best MMO I've ever played... I still would like to see the challenging aspects of EQ used in a new MMO... well besides guk corpse runs... :p Getting my shaman epic spear mid Velious days with my guild and those plane raids has to be some of the greatest gaming moments of my life... Even early EQ questing for every piece of my shaman Totemic armor... just thinking about that makes me excited... The epic plane of air raid our guild did for 4 days straight... camped our characters up there... We cleared the entire plane... If you think anything in wow compares to the difficulty of clearing the plane of air mid kunark days you haven't played a real MMO. :p

I've been playing on the same server as well and I have read that the blurry texture thing has been resolved. Perhaps it was the notes on the patcher or in a dev blog, but I remember reading it. And I don't see a texture issue. Any my AA does work on my ATI card. I don't recall it ever not working.

Couple questions for you other preview + weekend guys. I've been playing and I feel like the experience gain has slowed down a little. I used to be a level higher than anything I fought in the next section of the area USUALLY, now Im a level below it by a bit or right at it's level.

Anyone else think the XP gain has been reduced? I read through most the patch notes, but didn't see any mention of it changing, just the death mechanics.

EAX working for anyone else? Can't check the box on my client.

Scenarios didn't seem to be working either, got into one earlier today then I've sat for hours in the queue since. I think the emergency server maintenance might be to fix it, dunno. But if not, anyone else having the problem?

EAX was busted as of wensday.. they shut it off

as to the lvling thing... ya.. I thought they were gonna slow it down.. thanks for confirming it

last rumor I heard was the D/L for the OB was the gold disk client.. so any inbound patches from now till then can include what ever mythic wants to do

Yeah I'd have to say XP gain is significantly slower for me. On the last few quests in the first tier and have done a lot of scenario play..and Ive just hit level 8 when before I was 10 if not 11 and didn't scenario nearly as much.

Kinda sucks because those first handful of levels are really boring due to lack of abilities, I usually don't start having fun with the guys till about 8.

The client still slowly and progressively gets less responsive over a couple hours of play, and will eventually blue screen my computer if I let it keep going. Really had hoped this would be fixed.

Scenarios worked fine for me. Seemed to get into them pretty quick, within a few minutes of queuing. No blue screens here and I played for about 5 hours straight. I don't think the game has ever crashed on me despite some marathon sessions last preview event. The one time it did exit was server related.

thats Mr. memory leak... keep checking your mem usage... and bitch them out in feedback.

Mythic has a bad habit of having mem leaks ;)

I know the open beta starts on the 7th, but does anyone know what time? 12amPST/CST/EST?

I have not seen any sign of a memory leak. Mem usage seems to hold steady for me even with hours of play.

bumping this question, as I had the same, I suppose we just have to wait until Sunday ( hopefully AM so we can play tomorrow! :D )

Along that line of question though; None of the emails, etc, stated an obvious answer, but, on that patch update box... the credentials it's looking for are the Master Account credentials I created here:

https://accounts.eamythic.com/

Correct?

Correct, if you aren't in the PW+ just the regular open beta, then you can't patch yet.

The servers will come up at 7am EST tomorrow (according to the counter on fileplanet).

Definitely the best MMO I've ever played too. Nothing has been as fun as EQ druid and bard classes for me.

Man, I loved/hated Druids, good when you had one around/grouped, bad when you never could find one.

Give SOW plz!
