Warhammer Online Thread!

I grabbed the EU client from war-europe.com and installed, and the patcher accepts any username/password but doesn't do anything afterwards just sits there, no errors or anything.

I hope it becomes more clear what we have to do for open beta, right now it's a little confusing.

I agree. The one thing funcom did right with AOC is have all this stuff ironed out when they went live. The gamestop preorder instructions make it sound like you should be able to run the updates.

I did download the beta client from file planet. Hopefully your correct GoldenTiger and I'm all set.

Can't wait to start this game. Think I'm going to roll a DOK - Disciple of Khain. Now I just need a decent guild.

Im still deciding between a maurader, chosen and black orc.

I think the marauder is awsome but he dies so quickly when focuse fired.

The chosen is just so bad ass but I dont like the idea of having to twist to be fully effective, so I definatly have to try out the black orc lol.

Ya man, I feel ya. Here was my thought process when I decided I was going to play.

"Ive always been a clothy caster... Im sick of being squishy"
- Marauder, Chosen, Black Orc, or Disciple of Khaine (I guess kinda squishy, but can wear heavy leather and has heals)

- Marauder looked cool, but I realized in a big RvR enviorment he will probably be the "Hey.. go in and kill a guy or two before you die so we have long enough to..."

Black Orc looked pretty cool. Decent damage, cool tank stuff. But, the whole building up a combo just seemed =\.. The Chosen can do any of their moves at any point. Twisting is a PITA, but Im sure some mods or macros will make it damn easy, if not... oh well I get used to it.

well..

last Monday (8/25), I pre orderded from eastore.com, thinking, well go to the source. well..a week later..no comms from them at all.. no OB keys, etc. Grr. Inability to even message the support clowns.

So, last night I preoreded from Direct2drive ( IGN - Fileplanet..etc ) bang. all messages fast, downloaded client. smooth.

Didnt install yet, that I'll do tonight. question though.. I used The IGN Download manager..it went to a data HDD. It says that install will put the game in the folder its downloaded too. So, I'll move it before install. I run Vista 64. I've seen a few posts in the thread about possibly being 64? I don't see anything to support it, so my inclination is to copy the downloaded directory for install to the \Program Files(x86), as opposed to the 64 prog files. is that a good assumption?

As well as others have stated, I'm pretty stoked for this game. burned out on wow, palyed eq1 for years until I was burned out there. And I would definately be interested in a [H]guild..or at least knowing where yall are going!

Guys, question: What's the currency going to be like? Do you think there's going to be alot of bots/farmers in this game?

I also would like to know too. Will there be like Auction Houses and trading and stuff

There are auction houses, but they were just implemented a day ago. They will be in the open beta and release.

The trading system is very similar to WoW's, and there are plenty of item drops that you can sell on the AH. I'd also imagine that you can sell goods from all the tradeskills on the AH as well.

AH's are one of the worst things to come from mmo's as far as keeping a more well balanced economy in place, unless it's region and price restricted a la SWG's AH system.

Though it doesn't seem like they are putting any thought into player crafting/economies anyway so I guess it doesn't matter.

Okay, I haven't read the entire thread. What is the deal with SLI? Someone said the game didn't work with it. Does this mean it only recognizes 1 card or that you can only have 1 card installed?

I'm rolling Shaman or Zealot.

theres some kind of bug wiht SLI that mythic is well aware of and frim what i hear is already fixed on there client. I wouldnt worry about it there treating it as a big big and promised ot fix it.

Should give the Black Orc a shot. Not sure why, but the spell combos are fun. Makes it kinda like a melee/hunter class character. On the positive side, the tanking makes it easy to progress, so you don't have to rely on some greedy loot stealing warrior tank in the beginning.

So how's this game compare to WoW and/or AoC?

It's a very different game than both. So it's hard to compare. More like WoW for sure, but a much more hardcore game. I don't mean hardcore like you need to put in alot of time. But it's gritty, War is everywhere. WoW without the nonsense. I don't know. I'm having more fun at level 1 in PvP than I ever did in WoW PvP.
It has alot more content throughout the levels than AoC did. More than enough to get you to level cap without running out of things to do.

I've been in AoC, loved the game dearly but the shrinking population has caused it to lose its former glory. Not to mention the content was especially lean in the later levels.

I'm going Marauder. Mostly been rogue style toons in previous games; swg-smuggler/spice dealer :), Wow-rogue, Lotro-rogue, AoC-Assassin.

I'm looking forward to big ugly puss-infected limbs smashing people to pieces and then getting focus fired down :)

I pre-ordered through gogamer last night, have not got a reply back yet, how many of us have ordered War through gogamer and what has the experience been so far?

I have high hopes for War, although I did as well with Aoc which I stopped at level 40. Diablo II held me for 3yr+, SWG held me for almost a year, Lotro held me for a few months, Wow held me for 3 years and Aoc held me for a few months. How long will WAR hold me?

Sadly, the Maurader doesn't even use it's transformed limb. It's very disappointing as I thought that was the whole point of it being there, not simple eye candy/wow factor, but that he'd actually use it.

However from the beta videos and info, it seems he never uses it, just his main hand weapon.

I just want the plain old melee DPS class. Not a stealthy, squishy rogue-like one, more like an arms or fury warrior (possibly like a death knight) from WoW. What's the closest to that?

I think he was a dick about it, but he did have a legitimate point.

In the WoW launch and the AoC launch, people try to declare a server for "where the most/bestest" pvp will be held. For WoW, this was Archimonde, which was so overflooded with people, it killed the server and was offline for several days. Deathwhisperer was the "it" server for AoC, but they used lock outs to keep people from overflooding the server. Which sucked for people that bought the game 3 days late. All their friends are playing on a server that they can't even create new characters on.

This sort of shit is just silly, there usually ends up being an exodus to other servers. In WoW, this meant Archimonde was not the "top" server even a week later.

Marader is probably the closest you're going to get. Here are the melee DPS classes in WAR:

White Lion- Pet class
Witch Hunter/Witch Elf - rogue-like melee DPS class
Marauder - your basic melee DPS class

Witch Hunter/Witch Elf - rogue-like melee DPS class

Can this class dual wield too ?? Like 2 swords or 1 sword + 1 dagger ?

Also will this game have something like Auction House's to purchase better gear and stuff...the AH is one of the cooler things about WoW.

Witch Hunter wields a pistol and a rapier while the Witch Elf has 2 knife/sword-like weapons. Also, the Witch Elf can be female only.

Auction House is in WAR and has been a part of MMOs for a very long time.

Thanks for the reply :) Too bad Witch Elf is female only, would like to see a male version to play as.

Also thank God there is a Auction House, I could not play a MMORPG without one. So is AH very similar to WoW's ? They have epic swords and armor for sale in there, plus potions and stuff ??

lol... this reminds me... me and my friend are like, which server are we gonna go on?
we look at names, hey laughing skull looks cool, low pop, bla bla bla.

Yeah RIGHT.

That stupid Leeroy and Banana Boyz shit happens and the server is litterally FLOODING with people. Queue and all that stuff.

Bleh...

so basicly just pick a server, cross your finger it stays at "medium" and be happy with it.

can Witch Hunter be Elf race I hope not just human ?

Nope, in this game there isnt really a racial choice. Class=race. So all witch hunters are human, all ironbreakers are dwarves, etc. Classes even have their own models and clothing art, so a human chosen looks different than a human zealot (physically larger, different customization options).

An interesting read from the developers blog.

I've long been a proponent of "only Blizzard has the money and resources to make a game like WoW" crowd. Mythic has a good game on it's hands, but I still think it's a niche game (it's centered around PvP) and doesn't have that "magic" formula that WoW has that has made it hugely successful. I do hope that Mythic hits some good numbers, because I think he's right, this genre is in trouble if they don't do well, investors and developers will start pulling out (they already have) and you'll be left with a disillusioned played base left playing WoW clones for the rest of the MMO era.

Are there Quests that will last up till you "DING" your last level? Or is this a DAOC clone where your fucking grinding your ass off just to make it to end game one kill after another......

This will decide it for me. I do not want to grind on monsters to level up. Quests=bigger areas and reasons to level and get gear.

I have never been a fan of endless grinding, therefore I have never been a fan of WoW. It seems that all you do in that game is grind until you can get the gear to grind some more, and this just isn't fun for me.

What WAR has is a huge battle between Order and Chaos to control the world. This is what I am looking for, something that is dynamic and meaningful. The best part about this is that the battle is part of the grind, you don't have to quest at all, you can just fight in RvR, which is the main point of the game. Sure there are quests and such to spend some time on, but the grind is very short to level 40. The long grind will be earning renown, and you can only do this through RvR. The gear is also earned through PvP, none of that horrible WoW grind to get the gear to make you useful.

If you don't like the RvR idea, then you had better stick to WoW.

ok you got me paying alittle more attention to this game.

It really seems like these days are behind us in mmos. I think developers realize just how much more late level content they need than low level stuff, due to the massively increased time required at higher levels.

I'll share one experience I had recently in CB.

My friend was level 7 and I was level 8. He wasn't going to be on for the next day or so and I told him that I wasn't going to do any quests/grinding so that we would stay in the same level field. I then went down to the PQ area just to see what was going on and I saw a huge fight going on between Order/Destruction in Mount Bloodhorn. (The PQ where both sides fight to determine the next stage of the PQ for those in the know). For the next few hours, I just did pure RvR and massed a lot of kills on my runepriest. I leveled from 8 to 10 in those hours. I just couldn't stop leveling because it was so damn fun killing a guy with a DoT, and seeing +700 exp, +110 Renown Points just pop up. Granted, there are diminishing gains from killing the same guy over and over again, but it was still fun as hell fighting new people and getting exp while doing it.

To answer your question, yes there are quests through all tiers.. I actually had to abandon some quests because there are a plethorea of quests for you to choose from and you end up outleveling some of the lower level ones.. Granted, you can go grind if you wanted to.. But you also get achievements (+exp) when you kill 25 of X, 100 of X, etc. ;) Leveling in this game was NOT a chore at all.. And I tried to minimize the amount of questing I did so as to not ruin my launch experience. Mythic did a fine job of making leveling in the back of your mind if you want to avoid quests/grinding, and helping friends do PQ's, fighting in RvR & Scenarios, or unlocking Achievements in ToK will get you some decent exp in the background as well.

WAR is a no brainer for people who hate the grinding in MMOs.... of course there is a sort of a grind for higher Renown but its fun grinding killing the opposing side and doing massive RvR raids.

exactly why AoC crashed and burned.

He uses it. Main hand is also used, like for autoattack. The mutant hand even shows up as an equiped item when you mutate, it has +stats and everything. The graphic changes each time you mutate, one time it might be a bird claw, next time a big furry yeti hand, etc. Very cool class :D
