Warhammer Online Thread!

That doesnt really help, theyre way too tiny. Try playing a Chosen and twisting with it. In the heat of the battles its hard to remember which one you hit last or what time duration it is :p. Plus, I forget what class it is, but their snare doesnt have a visual... half the time I think my keyboard stopped working. There will be mods in due time to take care of that though.

Scenarios are the way to level. Just go to the warcamp where there are two extra quests for the scenario of your choice. Then you will get around 8k for a T2 scenario (on average), and then an extra 3k+ for the quests.

ZBuffBars on curse.com should do the trick.

Bless Curse for having an Autoloot add-on. I was going bonkers.
and ActionBarColor for out of range spells and ActionBarCoolDown for the cooldown number size and color. why every mmo dev insists on only making text/number on the button red instead of the whole thing for out of range and the cooldown text so tiny i have no idea but it drives me crazy.

RR gear sucks until later on. Tier 1 and 2 is pretty shitty. Your best bet is to get influence gear, as while youre doing it you can get some PQ drops too. Personally what I did was get RR4 or 6, whatever it is, gear and blow through T1, then in Chapters 6 and 7 I started focusing more on gear. World RVR has some pretty gnar gear too, I got a ballin chest off a keep lord.

Oh hai thar spider who drops 2-3 rank30 blues and spawns every 2 minutes how are you today =D

Brother just got WAR...used to be a big WoW player but he stopped playing months ago.

He just started tonight and first impression he said was "it seems rather boring and lame so far"

I dont know about that assessment, I hated WoW found it boring and lame myself, not really into the 'carebear' type MMOs but WAR seems pretty cool to me, I like the idea of PQ's and the RvR system is rather refreshing granted the grind quest a to quest b to quest z is mundane and been done before, but in the end I am enjoying WAR

Sorry, just read my Brothers text again about his first night playing WAR ever, and he said " So far, seems a bit lame compared to WoW " and he used to be a pretty steady casual WoW player, never hardcore, but played WoW off and on for 3 years.

I still have not purchased this game yet, will have to now, to see what he is talking about...but I also still like WoW, really loving my new Rouge I created last month now Level 50 kick ass class.

I have a new opinion; WAR sucks with PUGs. Playing with random people that suck ass is so irritating. Playing with guild and going 500 to >100 in scenarios, taking keeps and stuff is awesome.

The PVP(RVR) in this game really shines when you have a good core group. You cannot beat it.

Is there any PvE in this game like WoW ?? Can my brother and I just have brand new Level 1 characters, like a Human and a High Elf and start questing together the storyline quests and not do any PvP for awhile ?
Just wander around from zone to zone as we level up, and do instances together, and go to Auction House in one of the cities to buy new purple/epic gear, can the game be played like this ??

Yes, there is. There are plenty of quests to level up on. Just run to a warcamp and fly to the same place. The main cities have an AH where you can buy gear. In my experience most gear is BOE, some is BOP. Not sure how that changes in T3/4.

But in all honesty, if PVE is what you are looking for, just stick to/with WoW. WAR is for PvP(RVR)

well im hooked, I didn't really like WoW too much, the idea was cool, but I found the grind too irritating. The Group quests are a nice touch where it was lacking in WoW (had to have a guild and know alot of people, and its hard to have time to do all that, and keep up when you have a real job etc).

I still don't have a guild for War, but it's fun anyways. Almost to level 10, which is quite alot of playtime vs freetime for me.

I'm level 13 by now and i have only PvPed twice so far (both times quests). I still have many many quests queued and will continue to play PvE until i hit a dead end. The PvP comes automagically sometimes with the quests and as you see...i have not stopped once to grind or anything. I do quest after quest and it has kept me busy for the whole time so far.

Wow, the game got a LOT better for me once I hit Rank 13 and got the 25% damage buff tactic. A nice level 17 chest dropped but hey, four more levels to use it :)

What class are you playing again as?

Oi, yeah I would say more RAM may be likely to help here. I hated how WoW ran on Vista with only 2GB of RAM, 4GB was much better for me personally. Actually I just hate Vista with 2GB of RAM in general. From all accounts, Warhammer uses more resources compared to WoW.

Anyway, maybe they will gradually introduce some optimizations to help on a variety of systems. They made a lot of changes to the graphics options right at the end of Open Beta, so hopefully they make a few more to help you out.

I have the same stuttering problems and that is what kept me from buying it after closed beta! It really makes me sad. I wish I knew how to fix it. Below are my specs, and while they are not that great, a friend of mine has a really high end PC and has the same issues. Has a dev ever commented on what causes the stuttering?

Athlon 4000
7900GT 256mg
2gig of ram
WinXP Pro

They haven't said specifically but they've been commenting on it on some of the forums.

I don't know about that. There is plenty of PVE content. I couldn't even complete all my tier 1 quests from just the Chaos area, didn't even touch the Dark Elf or Greenskin zones. There seems to be a ton of PVE content to go along with the RvR.

Yeah, no doubt there are plenty of quests, I was just telling him if he isn't looking for PVP then WoW will better suit him. Even on Core servers, ~70% of the area is flagged for RVR. End game in WAR is RVR. There will be some raids and world bosses of course, but the end game is based around RVR keeps and seiges. If you do not like PVP (And not WoW gankfest, this is more about group battles where everyone has a role, not plain kekeke big critz), WAR just isn't the game for you.

But if all of these things interest you, welcome my brethren!

Bottom line question; I am looking for another RPG to play, I still play and like WoW, I never PvP'ed in the four years I have played WoW, but am open to for a new game.

Can WoW lovers still get into and enjoy WAR too ?

Depends on if you like WARs PVP(Big group battles, RVR). If you're still content with WoW then I would wait for the WAR trials to come so you do not blow $50. But WAR seems to be aimed at people sick of the PVE grind and wanting to mess some face up.

There should be enough info in this thread considering you're asking the same questions over and over again (sprinkled with tidbits such as "This game looks beef. WoW looks better").

Sorry man, not trying to flame, but if you're trying to find excuses to play a game you tend to have negative connotations about, maybe you should just give it up.

To answer your question for the umteenth time, everyone likes different stuff. PvP in WAR isn't the same as it is in WoW. The combat of the game is slower and is much more team-oriented, loot is important but not overly ridiculous as WoW.

Bottom line (read this): http://www.massively.com/2008/09/09/a-world-of-warcraft-players-guide-to-warhammer-online/

I have little crits. Think I crit for 160 once on a mob 2 lvls below me.

Are you playing a tank archetype? I have a Chosen, and Im enjoying the class so far. If you know going in you aren't the big badass that two shots people, you will be fine. Everyone has a role. Tanks can play either offensive tanks that rush in, absorb some damage to allow their team's real DPS to kill, and pressure the healers. Or, they can play the defensive role that protects their healers and casters by keeping enemies off of them.

Mythic did portray the Chosen to be something else though in the videos. Most people think they are like the arms warrior in WoW, and quit after level 5 or so.

I don't agree with the above poster at all. I generally avoid PvP and play PvE almost exclusively. I have been on EQ2 since launch and loved PvE. I never cared for or wanted PvP at all.

That all changed when I tried War. It doesn't even feel like PvP so much as better AI. Although some PuG RvR is worse, that just happens sometimes when you get unlucky with your group. I am loving War so far. I have been duo'ing with my son and we can do pretty much anything, like do some quests, do some public quests, do some RvR, do some open world RvR, etc all at our leisure. The only issue I see is how fast the leveling comes, specifically if you take a few days of questing off and do RvR exclusively. You out level the area you are in. It has caused my quest journal to fill up and I have to delete old quests to make room for newer ones at my level.

BTW, he plays a swordmaster and I play a rune priest. Pretty good combo for sure.

Well said. You can spec for damage with a Chosen from what I've read, which involves full dread, a 2h great weapon, and maxing your STR but they'll never match the other MDPS classes. You'll miss out on the hold the line ability as well by dropping the shield which might piss off your allies.

whats the % of Order to Chaos players? I heard Chaos vastly out numbers the Order

If you mean % of Order to Destruction (chaos is a "race" within destruction) it varies depending on the server. Most of the servers are pretty much even.

The offensive role with a 2h is possible, and it has it's place(Making healers sweat) But personally, I picked this class to be a tank and as hard to kill as possible. Not a mediocre tank with mediocre damage.

Considering that shields can block everything; swords, fireballs, even cannon-fucking-balls... they're well worth it. You can get up to well over a 30% block rate, 70% damage mitigation, along with parry and talents... you can become damn near unstoppable.

Im speccing for what I call "Nuisance build". I will have the most CCs out of any class in the game. 4sec knockdown, 2sec aoe knockdown, and a punt. Knowing the things I can do with that gives me way more satisfaction and utility than having some ubar damage.

Awesome, thanks. I have tried new video drivers and thought maybe it was onboard sound but nothing helped when tweaking and changing drivers or settings. The crazy thing was that the stuttering happened at 1600x1200 AND at 1024x768...that isn't good.

That punt skill is so funny. We were taking the keep in Barrack Varr and some ironbreaker punted me right off the hill.

Good times haha.

I'm playing a Chosen. I love the class and knew going in it wasn't a big damage class like MS warriors. I do like using repel to knock people off the top of the hill where the troll pacifier is :D. I do it alot beucase I can't DPS anyone but BW's down.

IMO, the game is crap without the PVP aspect. The PVP makes the game and it's great that intelligence > gear in this game. THAT is what separates WAR form WoW.

IMO the game is not crap without the PvP aspect. I have thoroughly enjoyed the questing system. I hit all the public quests that I can find to get that influence gear. The zones I have explored T1 & T2 for empire are very well put together. There is no shortage of quests and interesting things to do. I did not find WoWs PvE more engaging than WARs. Maybe at later ranks that will change. Both PvE and PvP are done well in this game thus far.

I wouldnt say crap, but it would be the same old same old. I havent felt drawn into anY MMORPG in a long time, but warhammer has my balls right now. So much going on with the PVE/RVR/PVP aspects oft he game. I never feel like im grinding away.
