I've recently wanted to play through Bloodlines again & started perusing the config.cfg file for it. Can anyone recommend any guides and/or settings to bump the graphics quality as high as the engine will allow? I have the latest unofficial patch applied to it & is already modded with my preferred resolution w/ correct FOV.

This is one of my favorite games and something I desperately want a sequel for so I'm always happy to help people here and hopefully get more people to play it and get the demand up. ;)

CTRL F the term "config" without the quotes and you'll see a few interesting tidbits.

Good discussion in this thread. Worth skimming.

^^ Same engine so you can kind of intuit some things off of this.

CTRL F the word "tweaks" without quotes and read some of that.

Seeing all those tweak options makes me want to play the game again. Been a while since I've done a full run through. Last time I tried the game bugged out on me during the first area and I couldn't even drink the bum's blood. Maybe I should play something besides a Malkavian this time, even if they are insanely fun (pun very intended).

They're incredible to play. Hilarious dialog options. Just make sure you're running the latest fan made patch. I think it's at least 7.0 now?

EDIT: Wow, apparently up to 7.6 if I read this right. http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php

I don't see much point to updating/bumping the original thread anymore, but I try to keep teh patches on back up incase patch scrolls loses them if anyone needs a certain patch let me know and I'll try to dig it up.

It seems that the game crashes randomly during loading. Any idea what might be causing this?

Edit: Looks like it's crashing from filesystem_stdio.dll

The site just gives me an endless loop of links returning to the front page on the 7.6b link, and all the other sites seem to link to the same page. Has it been taken down?

Well if anyone else wants to play it its cheap on steam right now...

I think I'll pass..

It appears that I can't get the game to load most new areas with a new game at all through the Unofficial Patch & True Gold Patch...

Does anyone have any fixes for it to work correctly with Windows 7 SP1 x64?

I figured out that changing
Code:
mat_compressedtextures "1"
within any .cfg file will cause the game to crash at any time it loads.

Thanks for resetting my thought process by having me read that thread... I realized that I had altered that when I reinstalled VTMB the very first time.

Now we all learned something because I could have probably easily made that same mistake running some kind of experiment. :)

I enjoyed this game thoroughly, but I was never able to complete a single run-through. I got stuck on a bug in some Hospital wherein I was supposed to do something with a character that was no longer there.

Yup. The fan patches fix that glitch I'm pretty sure.

Yeah...but my saved game has the chick missing...so I'd have to start over. I would like to do so, but I don't have the time anymore.

What is with this game? I hear its one of the best so I bought it but its so buggy and jacked up that you cant play it. I couldn't get it to load when I first bought it and had to search around and find a patch. Now the screen is black until I get to the main menu nut I can hear things going on which isn't a big deal but now I'm gonna need another patch to play a resoltuion higher than that of my cell phone and I still may not even be able to play all the way thru? What the hell? Im already over it and I haven't even made it passed the main menu.

In the game's defense, it's several years old and came out long before widescreen monitors were standard. I get the black screens before the menu too, it's weird, but oh well. I don't think it did that when I did my first play through on my Radeon 9800 Pro, but that should give you an idea of how long ago it was. ;)

I installed the 7.6b patch or whatever and ran the widescreen fixer, but 1920x1080 won't show up? I don't get it. I have to play at 1680x1060 or something like that because the resolution I want doesn't show up even though I specified it in the res fixer.

I got this game years ago and never finished it on Steam. I am dling as I type this. What I want to know is the exact sequence of patches I need to install to get it to the latest unofficial patch. Or do I need to install them all?

1. Install game
2. Run newest unofficial patch (your choice of basic or plus installation)
3. Run ResPatch within Extras folder (it's in the base folder for the game after the unofficial patch installs)

I don't think there's much else that you'd need to run. Changing options within the game is recommended in order to get everything how you need them to be.

I'm starting to remember right now, there are two resolution patchers. (And whatever you do, it's a good idea to backup your engine.dll). The unofficial patch comes with ResPatch but another option is to use this one. If you think your characters look too skinny, then try the other one. Should be a choice of wider field of view vs wider characters.

CrimsonKnight13, is that one the same as the one that comes with the unofficial patch?

The ResPatch allows you to change how the Anamorphic setting works. I don't think you really need to use the other one with that option available.

This is a great game. It was really broke at launch though. I bought it at launch and it was very unplayable do to some serious game breaking bugs, broken quests, missing characters ect. Hell the opening cinematic had bugs.

Once the unofficial patches started to roll out it really became the game it was supposed to be.

I highly recommend it, especially at $5.

I thoroughly enjoyed it & beat the game a few months ago. I wish there was definitely a single player sequel.
