Wait... you bought a copy of Windows 8.1?
No no, I didn't buy anything yet. How come?

SSDs don't have any moving parts. So you mount them where ever you want. You could even leave them at the bottom of the case. Or attached to the side of the case via velcro or tape. Doesn't really matter.
The 4820K is not the better choice for you since a solid 2011 motherboard is around the $270 to $300 mark. You're not doing anything that would require the i7. The 16GB of RAM is the better choice on account of rising RAM prices in the future. With that said, 8GB of RAM is more than enough for most gamers.
This is frustrating, I really keep hoping I don't regret not getting the 4770K sometime in the future. You guys know best though it's sixty dollars more but.. cheaper than I thought it would be. I will just be so sad if at some point in the future I actually manage to use my processor to it's fullest and wish I had gone with more.
It's... So... Tempting.... At least I only have a few hours left to go back and forth on parts once it's done, it's done! This is the only part that I'm left going back and forth on.
If it were me, I'd go for the i7 4790K and sacrifice the CPU cooler you have picked out. With that processor, there's not nearly the need to overclock (the stock clocks are plenty generous) and it is easy to add a cheap cooler (like a Hyper 212+ or something) at a later date. It also gets you eight threads, which may or may not help in the future (I tend to think it will).
It's not available from Microcenter. You're going to have to get it from Amazon.com.Okay, awesome! The 16GB of RAM sounded a bit better to me than just being able to say "I have an i7!".
Yeah the price difference between this new motherboard (Like $90) and my MSI P7N Diamond board back in 2008 (I think that was about $250?) is pretty surprising to me. I'm kinda happy I'm sticking with MSI again, I did love this board a lot. Even though their voltages in the BIOS seemed a little weird, I got used to the values.
Ya know what's weird though, looking for the MX-4 paste, I don't see it on the MicroCenter site. God, I probably still have my tube of MX-1 or MX-2 somewhere. I bet it's gone bad after all these years, if that's possible. But I really don't see that one at MC at all, unless it's just not online?
Yup!I also think it's weird that this time around, every part I'm getting from MicroCenter. My original build I remember getting most from Newegg, one or two from TigerDirect, something from Amazon. My friends build a few months ago, had him get parts from Amazon, MC and Newegg too. This is nice that I can just get them all at one place
Look, if you can afford to get the i7 4790K without losing the 16GB of RAM, go for it. Otherwise, don't bother. Are you doing a ton of video, 3D, and audio editing/rendering? Are you running multiple virtual machines at the same time? Are you playing BF4 12 hours a day? Are you getting that i7 4770K or 4790K for less than the price of a Core i5 4670K or 4690K assuming all things remain the same? If you didn't answer yes to any of those questions, then you don't need an i7.I think the 4790K is way more than I would want to spend haha. The 4770k is what I would go with if I decided to buy an i7 over the i5. Unless, of course, I don't go with the off market cooler. Then it would only come out to about $20 more compared to the 4690k, like you said... Hmm... I wonder how that idea is.
I'm just so indecisive on this processor. I'll probably wake up in the morning deciding on something totally different again! If i do happen to go with an i7, I just hope it's okay going for a pretty cheap motherboard like I am. I almost feel like I should have started a new thread, with the new budget haha. I also guess it's not an upgrade anymore, but a brand new build just reusing the case, psu, GPU, sound card and hard drives. Ahh the decisions!
Oh and like you said, the 4790K is a 4.0ghz processor... The 4690k is 3.5ghz and I was planning to push it to 4.0ghz... So the speeds would be the same, but with eight threads..
Yup, jolli did in fact post the better deal. THe Gaming is technically the better mobo.
Like I said earlier in this very thread, the stock TIM that comes with the Seidon is fine.
Don't get that Corsair 750W as it's more than likely the CX or CX-M model. Not worth getting.
They're Corsair's lower-end models. If you have a system that actually requires 750W of power, you're going to need something a whole lot better than those models. In some ways, they're inferior to your current TX750. If you're going to buy a new PSU, here's what I'd recommend:I think it was. What's up with those models? I don't know anything about any newer stuff. I still like my trusty 750TX.
NOt really as long as you can connect the motherboard straight to the internet. These days, motherboards ship with UEFIs (replacement for BIOs) that are capable of download and installing updates straight from the internet.Speaking of.. I think on my first build, I had to get a flash drive specifically for a few things. Flashing the BIOS might have been one. I have no idea if I'm going to have to do that this time around again.
The EVGA 750 G2 is far superior to any of the others considered: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=380
Consider these for cases: http://www.microcenter.com/product/428454/Graphite_Series_760T_Full_Tower_ATX_Case

Best of luck with the (new!) computer!
I was actually looking at that Corsair case, but it was more money. However, that EVGA PSU is cheaper.. so if that Corsair case is a better all-around case, I would be able to afford it over the Thermaltake. I also picked the TT because I love my current TT Armor still Wow, they only have one in stock of the Corsair lol
Plus it has a rebate! Sounds like it was meant to be!
See [H] Review: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014...te_760t_full_tower_case_review/7#.U90xdM90z-g
Highest Price or gtfo is mine and my friends saying..hope it helps
It only comes out to be $16 more than with the other case and PSU, and then the rebate too of course. So now I'm looking at:
Subtotal $972.92
Tax $83.96
Grand Total $1,056.88
Under $1100 I think I'm done then. And the PSU is modular!! Something I totally wished I had the first time around lol
If your current one is SATA, it will work fine. Then you can just wait for a cheap sale to get another.
And yes, it would look much nicer! And that Newegg RAM is 2133MHz for not much more... Too bad you can't find like a stick of DDR3 to hold you over until that Newegg RAM arrived... lol...
I'm in the process of upgrading can't wait to be in your shoes...
Okay it's done. Now just waiting on the email that everything is ready, and I can go pick it all up Oh my God I'm so excited lol. Six years of waiting, all I've ever upgraded is my GPU and that's it. Thank you guys so much for all the advice I'm sure I'll have more questions when I'm putting it together and something goes wrong like usual for me
Okay here is the final build, everything I ordered (Though I did get the Seidon haha probably the one thing you won't like on it )
