I read it in another forum and sure as S%*@ it cleared up all my problems with the stuttering. Know EA/DICE needs to fix this crap.
 
I actually expected to see the opposite compared to a 2500K, being that the engine appears to be heavily multithreaded.

Very interesting.
 
This most likely means that with Hyperthreading on, you are running out of cache on the CPU.

Either that or the game is hard programmed to force certain things to specific threads and needs to be changed.
 
All i know is im Gaming for 15 minutes straight now with Zero Stutter Game maxxed out at 1920X1200 getting 95 Fps to 150Fps with 3 6970s in Tri-Fire
 
I've had HT off since I got the 920 three years ago, lol.

Never does any good for games.
 
hyperthreading can be a negative if cpu is saturated. Or simply for software that doesnt thread well.
 
I don't know if it helped or not, all I can say is...it runs beautifully :). OCed GPU and CPU(4.2ghz) and damn...
 
I believe it's one of only a handful of games thats being optimized for hyperthreading, which is still a work in progress for developers. this is now a classic example.
 
going to give it a try, i have pretty bad microstutter on my cf 6950s i just installed (2gb cards, i7-930 stock w/ ht enabled)

will post back with results
 
amd's x4 and c2q with 12mb of cache had the i5 2500 trailing in bf3, strange.
 
Turning off HT did help alot for me, still some stuttering but, way less... (6970 Crossfire in Eyefinity 5220X1050) just wish i could enable some AA with eyefinity... but it instantly dropped fps to 25-30 form 55-70
 
I have not experienced any stuttering or performance issues with HT turned on.

My specs:
i7-2600K at 4.8Ghz
16GB DDR 3 PC 12800
2x HD6850 1GB Crossfire
ASRock Extreme 4 Gen 3 Z68
Intel 320 SSD (OS & BF3 installed here)
WD Digital Black 1.5TB
 
Ok, this morning I rebooted and turned off HT. I think I see what you guys are talking about.

With HT turned on, when I turn my view with the mouse, it's not smooth. With it turned off, it's perfectly smooth.
 
Can someone post a video of what this looks like? I'm curious, since I haven't noticed any stuttering with my i7.

If you pan to the left or right, you should be able to see it... I had thought that my mouse's DPI was set too low.
 
Haven't noticed any stuttering with a stock i7 920 and CF 6950's. I'll have to disable HT when I get home for shits and giggles to see if there's a difference that I'd previously been blind to.
 
It helps when turing left and right quickly, it seems jerky, Turning HT off now its smooth.
 
Well, it's pretty clearly not just hyperthreading, because I have HT on and I don't have any jerkiness when I turn around (although I had to turn the sensitivity way down). Must be some combination of factors.

Edit: Anyone know of a way to turn on/off HT in Windows? Be nice to do a nearly side by side comparison.
 
Supposedly this "unofficial"cap 11.9 Cap 4 fixes stutter in Battlefield 3!! Try em if you have these games.

Cap4 is only useful if you run CF. I run single card and still had awful stuttering.

That's what I thought too, I even posted above in this thread that I was fine with HT on. I rebooted this morning and turned off HT and I was shocked to see what I had been missing.

That's incorrect my friend. CAPS are no longer only for multi card setups. Caps are useful for single card setups as well. I suggest you try it. ;)

I think it used to be called crossfire application profiles and now they are referred to as catalyst application profiles. When terry makedon was catalystmaker he tweeted that a long time ago. He said they were profiles not only for multi gpu setups.

Not sure if your joking or if I'm missing the sarcasm but i5 2500k does not have hyper threading
 
I have no issue with my 2600K and HT on @ 4.4ghz... the only time I get it is if I alt-tab in/out a LOT (like 10+ times) of the game to check email or whatnot, if I stay in it's perfect. Zero stutter, silky-smooth.

Im using
a single sapphire radeon TOXIC 6950
AMD 965 BE 4.1 stable
8g gskill
128g samsung SSD

had crazy stuttering downloaded the cap and now everything is silky smooth thanks a lot to the poster.

Oddly enough whenever I turned with my gampad instead of the mouse
(dont flame me I only use it for flight) I never saw any stuttering so I have no idea why the cap fixed this problem but it sure as hell is night and day.

turning off hyper threading seems like a lucky fix that prob wont work for many \shrug/

REALLY? Wow, I wish AMD had made that clear.

Works! Thx for the solution! My PC will just have HT disabled until DICE patches this.
