Tribes Beta [H] players?

for crossfire what profile do you guys use? Gears of war profile or just plain AFR friendly?

for tribes its the unreal 3 engine profile, same one i use to get SLI working since even nvidia still doesn't support SLI for it. nvidia uses AFR2 not sure if that matters for you though, but AFR friendly should work.

I sucked at speed, so I played a lot of technician.
Then I watched this video, and it all just clicked, and I am running up caps like crazy:
http://youtu.be/WxRd45dOamw

Fair warning there are 2 Side effects:
1- You will get better at capping and speed
2- You will become an angry player who loathes llama grabs more than anything else

This new plasma gun came out for the raider, if you have 100k xp it is really good / over powered right now. The thing is you can get mid airs really easy, I suggest if you are currently boosted you should try to level up your mid air badge in arena with this gun. I am sure they will nerf it very soon so grab the xp you can while it is still OP.

Aaaannd.... nerfed. Latest patch: Modified the collision size of Raider’s Plasma Gun projectile. The weapon’s damage and rate of fire remain the same.

It had to be, the collision sphere had to have been twice as big as the projectile itself. I tried in the training area and I was DEFINITELY missing shots, but they still connected as hits.

Yep. I would argue that slower projectiles are easier to hit people with who move in predictable paths (ie, jetting upwards to escape).

Pretty ridiculous, as soon as I saw the trailer where the guy was getting almost all mid-airs I knew it was going to be severely op.

Ya I tried it after the nerf, you can still get a decent number of midairs but not like before. I was running around 20 mid airs a match in arena before they nerfed it. I put in over 350 midairs in one night of play. Outside of that I only had about 600 for 60 days of play. I still think arena plus this weapon is going to be the fastest way to get mid airs.

Anyone else experiencing a crash to the in game menus after the round is over?

Basically after a round is over and a few seconds after your scoring breakdown appears you crash out of the server and go back to the menu UI. None of the menu options are there. All you see is the 'Learn More' thing at the bottom right of the screen peddling upgrades for gold. Usually I have to click on "Learn More" to get the UI back. After that everything works like before.

This seemed to start happening about a week ago.

Not even close to the nerf it needed. All games I have been in the leader is a Plasma Pak noob. Everyone of them hits over 5+ air mails a game. They have ruined this game. Tribes was simple fun. Not all these skins and paks. Every pak this far is overpowered to gain initial sales and I see them keeping this trend going to keep $$$ coming in. If this is where PC gaming is going with MicroTransactions, I am not upgrading to the latest and greatest and will fade out from it.

It kills me the people like myself that use the Bolt Launcher and actually have to aim and get excited over an Air Mail kill aren't even praised for our flag running skills especially against these plasma noobs.

Yep and mine also locks up for 10 seconds if I change to the Brute while in middle of a game. Its still Beta.

Not to sound like im defending the plasma gun update, but you shouldnt be dieing to plasma gun on cap routes. It is strong for dueling, but weak against anyone moving over 150. Who cares who the leader is, in CTF score is not indicative of who is played the best.

WHo said anything about CTF??? Go play some Team Deathmatch and you will see what I am talking about, every time.

phase rifle is pretty rail gun, but not exactly like that.

I am not saying you are wrong, but I would rather get killed by a plasma than a machine gun. And everything in this game is balanced around CTF. Once you get into other modes their are clearly OP weapons and classes and UP weapons and classes.

Well, I built a really nice gaming PC just for this game and was sorely disappointed. Ended up returning the parts.

Game is full of people spamming "shazbot!" (basically an in-game way of saying shit or fuck) and making mocking remarks at one another using the in-game voice system thing. So if your team mate tried to grab the flag and failed, someone is always bound to spam "Is that the best you can do?" and "When will you learn?" 5 times, there is no in-game chat (I mean there is, but it's on the same window and same color as all the voice command spam so nobody pays attention), gameplay can be frustrating at times as you die not enough to be fun like Quake 3 but don't survive long enough like in CS:S.

Worst of all is the XP/gold system. I had faith they wouldn't fuck it up, but they really did. Unless you have a XP booster (costs real money), getting XP is painfully slow.

For comparison, to unlock just one of the "main" guns, you need between 75k and 100k XP depending on the gun. Per day, playing A LOT more than an average player would (I imagine) I would get maybe 5k XP, definitely never more than 10k. Matches you lose you make about 300-600 XP. Matches you win are about twice that. Matches last 15-30 minutes. So do the math. I played about 4 hours a day to get that 5k XP unboosted.

So, to get ONE new gun, you would need to play 20 fucking days. Also, I'm not saying this to show off, but in every match I've ever played I was top 5 in scoring, which meant at the end of the match I got more XP than 11 other players on my team. Usually I was placed top 3. This just goes to show if you are an average of below average player it will take you even more time to get upgrades.

This is of course not counting packs, armor upgrades, etc. To get just one character to full stats... I don't even want to think about it.

To fully upgrade one character, I quickly added up the XP required before returning my PC parts, and it came out to almost 200,000 XP I believe. Meaning you would need about 40 days before you have one class you can have fun with. Remember there are like 7 classes in total and optimally (at least for me since I'm a pub player and people usually don't follow their role) you would want to have all 7 classes unlocked and atleast partially upgraded so that you can counter enemy attacks. I lost count of how often I got frustrated playing a doombringer on the flag and getting shelled by a juggernaut half way across the map. I keep pinging him and nobody helps. Ever. So many times I wished I had a brute unlocked or a decently equipped soldier at least to quickly switch and harass the jug back.. but because you can't spare any XP you're just fucked and keep dying and dying.

Now they added loadouts which should have been in since the game came out, and they cost money.. are you serious..

It's really ridiculous. I hate F2P games, their value is horrible.

And just to make it clear, you ARE at a big disadvantage unless you are fully upgraded. After rank 6, which takes just a a handful of days of casual play to get to if not less, you will get matched up against anyone rank 7 and above. I don't know what the max rank is but I've seen at least people level 40 in my matches when I was rank 9. Now rank doesn't mean anything more than how long you've played, but in reality it will mean that your opponents (or teammates, regardless. Other people you play with) are all better equipped than you are.

Equiptment upgrades make a huge difference. For example your base HP might be 1000. But if you fully upgrade your armor (which costs about 20-25k XP in total) you will get 1500 HP, plus other bonuses like 15% faster regeneration and such.

So unlike what people said here, equipment>skill.

It's stupid frankly, maybe it would have been acceptable if they had match making and it would match you have to closely ranked players (aka they played about the same amount of time you played). But as it stands it's really unfair and frustrating to play as a new player because a lot of the people I played against played since the very beginning, yet I get matched up against them anyway. If you've played WoW, think of it as a freshly minted max level stepping into arena in greens/blues when your opponent has all the gladiator gear. Except in this game it doesn't even take any skill to get max gear, just lots of time and lots of patience only a teenager can have.

Wasn't worth the week I put into it. First couple of days were fun as it was new and all but as I got my senses and understood how it all worked, I saw how flawed this F2P system is, just as I suspected. It really is the epitome of pay to win. And just think about it.. who in their right mind would spend real life money on stuff if it wasn't giving them a distinct advantage in-game. Nobody, and that's why the system is in place. To get people frustrated about how long it takes to gear up, so they give you the kind option of charging you up the asshole.

There are good points to the game (if you haven't noticed I'm not exactly an optimist, and may have depression) but overall the game is not worth playing, let alone in the long run.

edit: one more point I have to make. I believe this game is easily worth $30 if not $50 if it was fully unlocked, and they do offer gold packaged for those amounts. But keep in mind, gold can't unlock everything. For "upgrades" (i.e upgrading your armor to have more health and/or more energy among other stuff, or upgrading your gun's maximum ammo or reload time, stuff like that) you can only unlock with XP. So even if you do buy gold, it won't unlock everything and you would probably have a lot of gold left over and the only real sensible thing to spend it on at that point is on XP boosters, so you could fully unlock one class in say 15 days instead of 40. But even then it's still a HUGE timesink you won't have fun doing AND costs you money.

There, at least Hi-Rez got 2 cents out of me

To put it simply, I disagree with most of what you stated. If you put more time into the game I think you would realize how off you are on some of your points. 5k xp in one day? that seems a little hard to believe. 2 hours of play I probably get around 12k. unboosted. How you place on the scoreboard has NO direct correlation to your xp per match. I find the XP is heavily dependant on the badges you get per match. I can get 40 kills in one match with 50-60K credits aquired, and still only get 1000xp. But if I get 14 flag defences, 20 flag returns, 1 or 2 flag caps, repairs etc, you will see a match around 3-5kxp, on the losing team. And I see the class/'better' weapon debate all the time, I get these scores with the soldier. AR+thumper, nothing special. I dont want to make it seem like im attacking you, I WANT you to like the game, I want as many people as possible to like this game. I love it. The chat command system varies between people on who it annoys, just know its all in jest. I think it makes the game more fun, others hate it. After you get the hang of movement and how to counter each class, you will have a lot of fun, I feel every class has a chance against each other one, even the light classes can take down heavies if played well. For an example, I can get 75Kxp on my days off. Sure it will take 6-8 hours of on and off play but its definately attainable. I'm at the point now where I get called a cheater in virtually every game I play. My advice is to just find a class you enjoy, and stick with it. Dont worry about switching roles all the time, just play what you have fun with. Whether it be flag D, technician, heavy on flag, jugg, pathfinder chaser, flag capper, etc. etc. I find the most versatile role for a beginner with minimal unlocks is either pathfinder, or soldier. I still play soldier the most, I feel it has the most versatility. It is a great 'pestering' class that can take on heavies and destroys lights once you get good with the assault rifle. I suggest giving it another shot and getting a little more familiar with the gameplay, especially just picking one class and having fun with that one for a bit.

Weapons upgrades mostly give extra ammo/faster reload time
New weapons unlock are mostly to open up new play style for a class or compensate for weakness. I see myself going back and forth with the new and the old.
Armor upgrade slightly reduce damage indeed, but it is in no way game breaking.

I'm having a blast playing capture and hold /ctf, I've put a total of 9 bucks into the game to get permanent VIP (+50% xp) and a booster to get started. I'm really enjoying the game since i really hate realistic shooters.

Wow that makes a lot of sense.
Now everything is so much clearer.

I am just saying you don't see many if any people using sniper in arena, there is a reason, lights are almost nonexistent in capture and hold. That does not mean the game is fundamentally flawed, it just means that different modes of play cater to certain attributes and weapons. Even on a single class the weapon loadout I use in one mode is completely different than another. Impact nitron does not kill so I dont use it in arena etc.. You can think of every mode in the game as a slice of CTF. TDM is nothing more than basic dueling in CTF to win a position, while many classes may have a role in CTF not all are created equally for dueling. So most people are going to look to CTF has the definition of balance, if a class has a role in CTF alot of people do not care if its role dissapears in TDM.

You're completely wrong on many of these points. Some of the highlights:

1) I frequently take unupgraded (minus the perk slots which are unlocked for all classes when you unlock them) classes in when they are needed. You do NOT need "all the upgrades", or even a large chunk of them, to be competitive.

2) Whether or not loadouts should've been in the game "from the start" (which was 4 weeks ago) is irrelevant. Everything costs XP because, in a F2P model, everything non-standard costs to acquire. They don't "cost money" to unlock, either, you can unlock them with XP (as I have with several classes already.)

3) Your health upgrade example is pretty terrible--so far as I know no class has a 50% boost to health available. If I remember right lights can increase health +100 and heavies can increase their health +200, but I could be wrong. I also think the health upgrades are split over two different upgrades, so the first half of the health upgrade is cheap and the second half is more expensive.

4) As I mentioned in #1, unlocking perks is cross-class, so these aren't expensive once you get a few picked out that you like.

If you are playing the game and you think it feels like a chore then spend $10 on an XP boost. You'll get the dual benefit of receiving VIP status (+50% XP lifetime), and you'll have the boost (+100% XP), effectively tripling your XP earned while the boost is active and getting the +50% after that. If you feel like it'll always be a chore then perhaps the game wasn't for you? I tend to ignore most of the in-game voice commands, and the thing you were complaining about (being matched against more experienced people) should've resolved some of the voice spam you'd receive. Yeah, some guys are douchecanoes, but that's true in pretty much every game, isn't it? I've been insulted in Starcraft 2 (either as a winning player or losing player), I've been taunted in TF2, Counter-Strike 1.6, CS:Source, Battlefield and damn near every other game, so I had no expectations that things would be any different with Tribes.

Did you do the Facebook promotion to get 250 gold just for liking them? Once you get the promo code enter it then un-like them if you don't use Facebook or like linking to companies via Facebook. With 250g you can probably buy 2-3 weapons/items from the "Your Item of the Day" thing they started doing in the shop (as of yesterday).

Agreed regarding upgrades:
First, you don't need any upgrades to be competitive. Additionally, some classes (soldier) are arguably better using stock weapons.
Second, if you are 100% unlocking a class, you're doing it wrong. It doesn't make a lot of sense to upgrade every component of a class, because you will rarely run into a situation whereyou will like every upgrade on a class.

Take the pathfinder, for instance. The stock spinfuser is fine. Ultracap I or II is likely something you will take for other classes, but is useful. The impact nitron is stock, and no one uses the alt grenade, and you really only need to get the first upgrade (+1 ammo). The thrust pack is useless, so you need only max out the energy pack (stock pack), and you're good to go. Everything else is optional, and imho, doesn't make a huge difference, though reach is usually the second perk people go for.

Another thing to think about is the fact that there must be some way for a company to make money. Comments keep coming in that say XP gain is slow if you do not have boost or VIP. But honestly if you build a whole PC for a game why would you then be too cheap to pay at least $10 to increase your XP gain by 50% Obviously the company needs some motivation for people to pay.

Now if you told me you paid $30 or $50 and got boost and unlocks and it was still painfully slow then I would say ya your opinion becomes valueable. Otherwise it is no wonder that fast paced hard to play games are almost dead, their communities seem to think they should all be totally free. Meanwhile the COD and BF kids shell out $60, grind to unlock, and do nothing but support and rave about how great the game is. Just look at the massive BF3 thread which has all the same mechanics.

That's kinda' amusing.... for the most part this is exactly my build. I never bought the Thrust Pack (and I certainly could, I have over 180k XP saved as of this morning) but I did max out the armor, energy pack and spinfusor. I think I even maxed out the shotgun, but I never use it. I've seen some folks do pretty good with it but I seem to suck pretty terrible with it, so I focus on what I do well: running flags home and chasing our flag.

Yea, the shotgun is best when chasing a flag-carrier and you are out of nitrons. They are usually beat up from impact nitrons pre-grab, and one or two shotgun blasts is usually enough. They are hitscan, though, and have a crazy short range.
