Tribes Beta [H] players?

OH REALLY?
Wow. So the smg,for example, actually hits where the orbs/bullets go?

^^ IT would appear that way, and DAMN it's hard to hit someone with those thing. The best gun is the beginning disk launcher because of how easy it is to use.

Not anymore it isn't. The only hitscan guns left are the sniper rifle and the shotgun.

Don't forget the Eagle and Sparrow pistols!

The key to hitting someone with a weapon like the chaingun or SMG is to "lead" with your shot. Shoot where you think they'll be going. This way, the bullets hit them when they get there. It took me a little while to get the hang of it, but once you get better, it's great for taking out people in mid-air. Try doing that with one of the explosive projectile weapons!

In CTF, try standing right near the flag and wait for a pesky Pathfinder to come in for a flag grab. They travel in a simple arc most of the time, so open fire on their way in. It will either A) kill them or B) make it easier for someone else or a sniper to pick them off.

Don't forget that the Doombringer's force fields damage enemies who fly through them! If you can hit a Pathfinder with your chaingun on the way in and you have a force field up right by the flag, they may not have enough health to survive the collision.

The chaingun is also good for taking out heavies since they're too fat to dance around and make your aiming difficult.

I have been a Tribes player since Tribes 1, played a LOT of Tribes 1/shifter mod. LOVED that game. Been playing this game the past few days and so far it's pretty awesome, great graphics too. I think I will be playing this for a while. I just bought the $8 booster, and got my VIP status. Also it looks like getting VIP with any purchase is a limited time promo during the beta so you might want to make a purchase sooner rather than later otherwise you might need to pay more for the VIP access in the future.

Tribes Beta Version 0.1.789.1 Patch Notes

SERVER DOWNTIME: The Tribes Servers are expected to be down for a number of hours on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2012 while the patch is deployed. Watch the Server Status on the game loader for the latest availability information.

Major Highlights
•The game no longer requires a key in order to play. Anyone can join the beta program by simply creating an account on http://www.tribesascend.com and then downloading the game. Players are reminded that their progression in the game will be kept once the beta ends and the game officially launches -- so time spent playing now will be rewarded at launch.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this game was retarded. Bunch of people flying around at 100 mph shooting at each other in a giant arena bowl. Just tried the Open Beta.

Then you never played the real tribes. This is how real FPS games used to play.

Maybe you were playing team deathmatch try CTF.

If you mean games like Quake and Unreal Tournament, then yea you are close. Except you don't have people 300ft in the air going 100mph. This game looks like it will be a hackfest.

I didn't even give CTF a chance. I'm having a hard enough time having fun chasing people around in TDM. Must just not be for me, which is a shame because of how much I like older arena style FPS.

I'm not trying to threadcrap, just stating my opinion.

Actually, unlike CODs or CS, I have yet to see one cheater at all. With like 3 hitscan weapons, hacking doesn't do much for you. Neither would walhacks since there are so few walls.

You really should try CTF. Imagine quake DM without the quad or armor, or mega health. Oh and also imagine you cannot bunnyhop and everyone else can. That is what playing TDM is like on your first day, everyone is just running around and you cannot catch up to them, they know how to move, you don't. And the worst part is you have no idea where they will go to next because there is very little incentive to move to any specific spot. You just have inventory stations, and the flag. But you do not need to get the flag or inventory stations. They are just bonuses, like picking up an extra gun in most DM games.

In CTF there are clear objectives which force people to play and focus. In TDM there is not, therefore you can get a good idea where people are going, or eventually be in CTF so you can cut them off. Also in CTF they have a generator metagame, so if you are not that good at jetting around yet and keeping up with fast players, then you can go defend your generator it is a great way to smooth into this game and you should be good at it, if you are good at other DM games.

I played alot of HLDM so actually people were flying around at 100 mph and lots of maps had large distances. You needed to pick off a single pixel sized target accross an entire map. But the thing is if you missed you adjusted and tried to close the gap. There is always another way to get to a player so long as they are motivated. In that game anyone who had a gauss could get moving that fast instantly.

Also your comments about the hackfest, are off base. There are the reasons mentioned in the post above. But in addition to that, the opposite of what you say would be, a slow game, where people are closer together. Hmm lets see what games might that be? Oh yeah CS:all/COD/BF3 yet those are the games where hacking is absolutely at it's worst. In fact CS was the game that pretty much made hacking main stream. I could hardly find a server that did not have a hacker in BF3 when I played. IMO hacking is alot more what is possible. In a game like tribes, TF2, and various DM games, sure you can hack, but there are lots of ways to be a big help to the team without being a precision headshot machine. So it has been my experience that hacking is far less of a problem in those games. On the other hand in CS/COD/BF there is really only 1 skill, that is precision headshot aim. From that foundation comes everything else, it is easily the most important skill. Movement, various tactics, all of it is insignificant compared aim. In a game like tribes prediction is just as important as aim. In fact a person can be better than an aimbot, simply because they can extrapolate the future based on experience better than a computer.

So you weren't even playing the real tribes game mode and are saying it sucks?

That's like buying a car and complaining because at 1mph its slow.

Try CTF and get back to us.

I briefly played the closed beta and uninstalled it. Now I've hopped back into the Open Beta and am having a blast!

This game has definitely improved a lot in the last few months that I have been playing it.

They said they are stress testing the server, I think they are increasing the max players and trying to figure out where the network load is working the servers out. So I would expect some issues today.

My least favorite part of any Beta test. Load-tests are always meant to run the servers at the ragged edge so they can look for stability issues. It's never fun for players. I'm in on the GW2 beta this month, and they just announced it would be a stress test. I am not as excited as I was.

No they screwed up. Read their forums.

A code change to core server services or some nonsense is causing massive issues. They anticipate up and down almost all day while they try to figure out what is going on.

QA? Pfft, what's that...

Well if it was such an issue, not sure why they increased the max players then.

Beta? Pfft, whats what?

LOL... Shoving code out to beta players is NOT QA..

(Sadly, it ends up this way more often than it should.)

No. The real Tribes is CTF and has a lot of strategy, it has vehicles, its not just all out DM. Tribes has always been a fast moving game, and the jetpack as well as the ability to ski are integral pieces to the game.

If anyone wants to add me, my tribal name is Casus

I mostly just play Arena and a little TDM.

Spawn in armor kinda ruined CTF for me.

gotta say I am having a blast. Its a bit hard at first when you have not played any Tribes games before. But hang in their. After a bit you will be having a blast. Tonight I was consistently in top 3 in the 5-6 matches I played tonight. Also even in team death match stay with your team. If you try and loan wolf, you will get owned fast. Also if you can, try to escape by skiing out of harms way. Lastly, stay with the flag carrier if your team has the flag, or if you are the flag carrier, don't run towards a group of enemies :p
