AskMen posted a list of the top 49 most influential men in the country and Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs all made it into the top 5.

The 2010 list of influencers honors men who have broken convention across the worlds of business, politics, technology, media, entertainment and lifestyle. These are not men who have chosen the traditional path to success, but who have nonetheless redefined the way we live today – and have clearly impacted the fans who voted for them.

More like who was the most notable douche bag of the year. It is just a lame list to sell magazines.

Two thumbs down.

Stopped reading as soon as I saw Russell Brand at 49 .... Influential lol

At first I was like "Who the fuck is Russell Brand?" and then I closed the window because I don't care.

I had the misfortune of going through the whole thing just to end up with Jon Stewart as number one...seriously?

since all will stop at 49. Kanye, Jobs, Gates and the facebook nerd made it to the top ten, don’t know the rest but I’ve seen James Franco in a movie or two. and Jon Stewart is no.1 (oh and don’t worry Gates beats Jobs)

after you click on the link you’ll find the top 4 videos list on the right, click the “smoking ….” one and continue from there to a more Influential stuff.

Jon Stewart I believe. Like him or not he's been hugely influential in politics for the last few years. People who aren't economically or politically savvy tend to look for a pokemon type mascot to point them in the right direction voting wise. I include myself in there and I actually do research before making political stances. It's just easier for us to have that sound bite summary of what we should be paying attention to.

While the Right, specifically far right/conservatives/family values groups have had people like Rush Limbaugh, O'rielly, and Glenn beck as go to's for it seems like since the 1980's. A loud voice in the left leaning media was unheard until Stewart showed up (nobody knows who Al Franken is). I mean there's always been left leaning news communities but nothing as simplistic and easily absorbed as Stewart. I would go as far as to say he had a HUGE impact in the last election.

I don't mean this as any compliment and I dont count myself as "Liberal". Meritocrat actually. I'm just saying I can understand why he's at the top of all the influence lists of late.

There IS negative influence. But most of this list is asshats...seriously Russel Brand...i'm surprised his ugly talentless soon to be "wife" didn't make the list of men. And Jobs is just a fossil. New ways to make trash last less long? I don't think hes got another firewire in him.

Why isn't Kyle Bennett on the list? :D :p

Because hes not sleeping with the right peoples.

Stewart is crap, if you get your news from him you don't deserve to vote.

I made it to 48 with that jack ass that stormed out of Jet Blue. The fact that Mark Zuckerberg is top 5 should have been a warning.

Wow, Mark Zuckerberg is such a huge tool for marketing

He hasn't inspired dick all.... wow, I cannot wait until this facebook fad dies out. Its getting worse than last year (Milley Cyrus)

RE: The Zuck: True
RE: Miley Cyrus: Just focus with your eyes, not your ears. She'll be 18 soon and probably the next Disney-kid-turned-pornstar.

Stewart is crap, if you get your news from him you don't deserve to vote.

And if you faithfully hate on Stewart and watch Fox News then you DEFINITELY do not deserve to vote. Without a doubt.

Stewert combines news and throws in political genius... that's why he has millions if not tens of millions of fans.

And Colbert too.... look at the beginning of these 2 shows. What other POLITICS SHOWS has a decently diverse crowd (mostly smarter, college educated younger people though) whom CHANT their name at the beginning of every show?

NOBODY

I meant to say comedic genius* (no edits?) instead of political genius

I think that list would have gone way better if they hadn't included pictures. Russel Brand insured that I never made it past #49.

You do realize you said in the same sentence that the crowd is made up of a diverse audience, most of whom come from the same age demographic and have similar education backgrounds?

I'm interested where you are getting the, "mostly smarter", description for the crowd though. Smarter than who? In what field or expertise?

Smart enough to watch two entertainment programs on Comedy Central and use them as their basis for global news and politics, apparently. Oh, and chant the host's name. A real testament to the audiences' intelligence.

Watching The Daily Show or The Colbert Report for information is no different than watching The O'Reilly Factor or The Sean Hannity show.

Oh yeah, the rest of this was pretty bad as well. :D

I don’t know why I’m posting this but I’m so excited about it. I was talking to my manager about the David Letterman show which is the only one we can see here in the mid-east and I was telling him about how cool and funny Jon Stewart is and that he topped this list and looking for a good link to send him about Stewart. so I found this. really nice interview and the “we brought democracy to the region you’re welcome” part was hilarious. I’m from the king’s country btw.

I agree with you piscian18 but I guess that doesn’t matter since I vote in a different continent :)

But, it's not a news show. It's a comedy show. And they have never claimed to be a news/reporting show. I think Stewart even said that in some interview he had with CNN, when he was bashing their (lack of) reporting skills/journalistic integrity. And another clue, their shows are on the Comedy channel.

What is really tragic, is that people take shows like Hannity, Beck, CNN, Fox News, and countless other "news" shows as reliable reporting sources.

And besides, everyone has the right to vote, no matter where they get their information from. The corporations give us the people we can vote for, and then we can vote, or not vote, as we see fit. ;)

I believe it.

He is very influential with young voters, probably more so than all other media outlets combined.

People like his pointing out of hypocrisy in Washington.

I am often surprised how many people use the daily show as their ONLY SOURCE FOR NEWS, especially when its a comedy show, and not a news show...

I don't necessarily think that this is a good idea, but I guess it's better than using that nut job Glenn Beck as your only source of news...

I've never heard of Russel Brand OR Bill Brasky... :p

BILL BRASKYS A SON OF A BITCH!

anyways

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky and I went horseback riding, but there weren't any horses around? Anyway, Brasky throws a saddle on my back and rides me around Wyoming for three days. Well, wouldn't ya know it, my stamina increased with each day, and I develop tremendous leg muscles. So anyway, Brasky decides to enter me into the Breeders Cup under the name Turkish Delight. And Im running in second place, and I'm running, and I break my ankle. So anyway, they're about to shoot me. Then someone from the crowd yells out, God bless him, Dont shoot him, hes a human.

Come to think of it, using Glenn Beck as even part of your source of news is probably a really bad idea.

My sources say that Glenn Beck raped and muredered a girl back in 1990.

Glenn Beck refuses to deny it. THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING!

I mean. he could post here in these forums right now to deny it, BUT HE ISN'T! IT MUST BE TRUE!

John Stewart says regularly that he is a FAKE journalist.

Glenn Beck state regularly that he has NO journalistic training.

However, Stewart is a comedian and Beck is serious, whether you like either one of them or not.

I went ahead dug through the list. What really bothered me is how many athletes and fashion moguls were in there. I really doubt these people influence anybody in a meaningful way. I'll summarize it for you. Stewart/Colbert/Obama/Facebook/Paypal/Wallstreet Moguls/Fashion moguls/Sports stars/Actors/Rappers? and a couple nobodys no one cares about.

On the whole Stewart/Beck Left/Right stuff I'd just like to say I'm really impressed with how mature the comments in this thread have been overall.

Discussion can only continue in a worthwhile direction when everyone acts like adults.

Now I'm off to go troll WoW threads :D

College are not smart. They think they are smart. But they are too energized to actually understand whats going on.

I had to Wiki this Russell Brand guy.

Russell Edward Brand[3] (born 4 June 1975) is an English comedian, actor, columnist, author and presenter of radio and television. Brand achieved fame in the UK for presenting a Big Brother spin-off, Big Brother's Big Mouth, and for his radio show, among other television series and award ceremonies. He has appeared in several films, including the romantic comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Bedtime Stories, St Trinian's, Get Him to the Greek, and most recently, Despicable Me. He is noted for various controversies that have surrounded him in the British media, such as the 2008 prank calls that led to his resignation from the BBC. He married singer Katy Perry on October 23, 2010.[4]

Richard Branson I will go with because that guy really is pushing some heavy stuff. He may possibly be the person that ushers in space travel for the common folk.....and that will be extremely influential as time goes on. But most of these people, if they are indeed influential, then I think it speaks volumes about where we are going. And it really isn't pretty when look at where we came from.

I wasn't going to go through the list, but is Steven Hawkings on there? He's still alive.

oh and by the way, that Russell Brand guy is apparently going to be the title character in a remake of Drop Dead Fred.....thanks for fucking that up.

" The screenplay is written by Carlos Davis and Anthony Fingleton, the original writers with additional revisions from Dennis McNicholas, one of the writers of Universal's recent Land of the Lost."

The only movie I thought I got ripped off at the $1 theater.

Not surprised that Mark Zuckerberg made it to the list, its all about Facebook these days. Facebook is pretty much the new Google.

Lucky you don't live here and have to see his retarted face and that of his ugly talentless wife every day... I don't even watch TV...
Back 10 years ago children wanted to be an astronaut. Or write a book or be a scientist or something. Now people dream of being shitheads like them.
