Yeah I am of the same mind as northrop . Ciri shouldn't be a witcher and take the trial at all. She was powerful in Witcher 3 and I just can't understand why anyone would choose to be a emotionless witcher, less powerful, and require potions to be able to properly fight monsters vs how she was in Witcher 3. Not to mention it breaks all the lore that any female that does the trial dies. Making Ciri an exception just sounds like a lazy way to promote her to be a "Witcher" so they can keep the title as "Witcher 4" when clearly the game shouldn't even be called Witcher 4. This should be a new IP based in the Witcher verse, but I don't think it can be Witcher 4. A more fitting title would be "Wanna be Witcher Ciri" or "Witcher: Tales of Ciri"

Apparently some survived?

The powers she has in Witcher 3 would make for a very boring game... basically insta kill all shit that comes your way.

I swear the ending i kept getting in witcher 3 was Ciri becoming a witcher at the end. Might need to replay again.
She did, but if I recall correctly Geralt, at least, wanted to follow Vesemir's wish to not perform the Trial of the Grasses anymore. So even though she wears the title of a Witcher she isn't one in the traditional sense. She has the training, but was never put through all the trials.
1 in 10 probably means they were reluctant to do it to more girls.

Ah. Thanks!

I would be interested in seeing how it plays out.

That is the problem with games with multiple endings, when there is a following game, it invalidates all but one ending.

The "Become a Witcher" did feel like the "True Ending" though. But it was never implied she would go through the Trial of the Grasses. This almost feels like Netflix writing on the surface, but I'll wait and see how CDPR integrates it into the story before criticizing it, storywise they haven't really let us down yet. Other than making Ciri super overpowered in TW3.

CDPR is staying as far as away as possible from Netflix from what I understand. Which IMO is a good thing.

It's wild how badly they fucked up the series, the first season was overall really strong and then it just went off into a pile of bullshit because they decided to ignore the books.

For what is worth I really disliked even the first season of Witcher. Everything Netflix touches turns to crap. No idea why they are so big. But then again that's outside of scope of this thread.

Yeah I haven't had a subscription in a while. If Ciri is wearing leather pants the whole game I'm going to need an overalls mod so I don't get distracted all of the time.

Hyped for this. Love The Witcher games. Ciri is also a favorite character of mine. Not sure I would have considered Ciri as the playable character for the next game, thought her story was concluded but also interested to see where this goes as well.

cdpr has been infested...
I can't imagine anyone having an issue with Ciri being a protagonist because she was a great character in the Witcher 3. However, terrible writing and retconning of canon to inject "modern" ideology will just piss off the loyal fan base. The fact that Ciri's character model is already looking uglified compared to the Witcher 3 is not a good sign.

I have mixed feelings. (TW3 spoilers) one of the endings suggests this (and it was a nice ending) but OTOH Ciri in TW3 was more boring to play than Geralt in her sections, having less things to do, and was OP anyway.

Part of what made Geralt interesting to play as was despite being a renowned witcher he wasn't god-like (lore-wise, even if he could have upgradable powers), which fitted with the overall downtrodden, gritty world in which he lived. Not sure how they'll handle having Ciri not just come across as having MOBA character powers.

That is interesting, but I thought it was in one of the witcher games or shows that said there are no female witchers because the process was basically suicide if given to a female. I honestly don't remember where I heard it from. But I am thinking it might be a retcon on the lore on the wiki page, from the history it seems that section was added in Aug 2, 2024 and the edit before that was done in 2022. It wouldn't be a first time someone edited a wiki page to make sure something fit their needs.

Dude, she was in her 20's in Witcher 3. A woman in her prime when every single lass looks stunning. Obviously she is much older here, and been on the road for a long time. No way in hell I would still consider her ugly in this CGI trailer.

Oh that's right, I completely forgot that the passage of time causes most women to develop gargantuan man chins and jaw lines. Cope harder.

The resemblance is so uncanny....

Not exactly flattering angle, facial expression nor lighting in that picture. But again, I would not call her uglified. I like this picture better. That said, this is still just a CGI trailer, we need to see what she looks like in actual gameplay.

What I question is that is it necessary for her to actually become a Witcher? What is the logic behind it since she was already powerful to begin with, arguably more powerful than a Witcher.

I can't help but think they are changing the lore because it is deemed "problematic" to a modern audience. Which I find to be lazy and merely writing for convenience. Especially since it seems as if the Trials may happen off screen between games.

I would much more prefer to play through Ciri's journey to become a Witcher than immediately being one. Have her contemplate possibly giving up her powers to become a Witcher. Hell, make that a player choice that could alter how the rest of the game plays.

If you are going to break lore at least be creative about it. Girl boss don't need to be perfect every time, they can fail too.

Ciri becoming a witcher seems more like a symbolic choice, as she is choosing her own destiny rather than accepting the one set by her lineage.

There was no subsurface scattering / pbr materials in the witcher 3 really. It was kind of right before that time before graphics really took off, particularly skin textures. She just looks a bit older and more real because tech has improved a bunch. She's definitely still very pretty. Geralt was a mega hunk too so it shouldn't be super surprising.

She becomes a Witcher in all my play throughs, totally fine with this and with her appearance tbh. Too early to really know what we’ll get though, remember the early stuff from 3 and Cyberpunk?

Pure cope. Improved lighting and textures does not fundamentally alter facial structures in the way which can be seen with the new model. This is even more apparent when comparing the official sculpted statue to the trailer model...

Wider more pronounced jawline, wider and shorter nose, crooked nose bridge, etc. However, MaZa might be right that the CGI models are not indicative of the final in-game assets as that was certainly the case with the Witcher 3 CGI trailers.

Here's a closer angle to the trailer from the same statue.

Get a life lol, she looks great. Honestly all this obsessing is a brain disease. The only difference is different people did it and the tech is better. It's an interpretation.

Lol, cope harder. An intepretation by ideologues who are obsessed with defeminising females in games. Keep moving the goal posts, it only makes your cope more lol-worthy.

Brother I couldn't care less about this, I think she's absurdly hot. This is internet brain disease, I'd rather people not fall victim to it but so be it if it happens.

If the in-game model doesn't have an aged similarity to the Ciri we know from TW3, then I will agree with you on that. If not, then we should hope that they not turn it into SBI-like garbage.

Personally, I'm neutral on TW4 until I see gameplay, dialogue & story shown in live-recorded videos (w/o touching up or manipulation).

Never thought I'd see the day of ferengi commenting on game esthetics.
