The official Red Orchestra 2 thread

God damnit I bought the game today on Steam, hoping to get in on some beta action going this weekend, only to find out I needed to buy the Deluxe edition instead of the basic one arrrgggg. Either way can't wait to play the game Tuesday :)

EDIT: @Flogger23m: I think, at least from what I see, is that in order to get into the beta, you have to buy the deluxe edition. If I am wrong please someone correct me and tell me and Flogger what we need to do. I see Red Orchestra 2 in my games list, but don't see anything about a beta. Help us Obiwan Kinobi, your our only hope!
 
Voodoo Extreme where giving away 250 beta keys earlier today. I doubt there are any left. That is how I got mine.
 
My biggest problem with this game is the fact that it runs like complete and total shit for me. It's even got worse as the beta as worn out. I can't even get a steady 60 fps with all medium settings at 1920x1080 on a 6950 unlocked to a 6970.

Highest settings, runs rather poor for me. The game has a good base, but the gameplay is not very refined. It is also very buggy at this moment. I doubt they can fix all of the bugs in the next 5 days.

But after a good mod comes out and patches fix the game, I think it will have to potential to be a great game. As it is now (even with patches) the game isn't that good.

Nice video. You know if you press shift while aimed in you zoom in more right? it is good for the machine gun.

You need the Deluxe Edition. You can upgrade it to it if you want to though:

I just ordered the deluxe edition then had steam cancel my original order of the regular version.
 
You can upgrade to the Deluxe version anyways for the cost of the price difference.

Although I don't really see the point of paying more just to beta test something.

Nor buying this game from Steam when it is significantly cheaper elsewhere, both versions.

I greatly reduced the zoom for me. I can't stand variable zoom in FPS games (unless it is ArmA 2 or similar). The downside to this of course is that everyone else essentially has a built in scope (even when not aiming) compared to me. IMO DH style zoom would be good.

I don't like any of the maps I have played yet either. The one with tanks gives me such poor performance that I can not even play it. And the recoil in the T-34 is laughable.

The game has potential, but it needs a lot of tweaking done via mods. Thankfully the game is moddable.
 
Man, the beta ran great for me when it first came out and now it's pretty much unplayable.

That's one thing I cannot stand, is when the patches to a game make it perform worse.

Humm, thats odd, my x4 @ 3.5 and 6970 lightning run it on high with a steady 40-50 fps, the lowest dip being 28, the tank map does lower my average into the 25-35 though.

The latest patch reset the video config so you probably just don't have it setup the way you did before the patch.

Nah, I've adjusted the settings multiple times since the patch. Performs like crap even with all low settings :(,
 
I got a performance boost with the patch. I was getting 25~, now I can hover around 40 with the occasional dips.
 
What's up with Ro2 today?

I keep getting timed out to servers, pr Punkbuster kicked. The RO2 forums are down with a 404...

Don't play on PB servers.
To quote myself:

Yea the beta runs like a pig. I've got Core i7 at 4.4ghz with 2 GTX 480's and it still is quite sluggish randomly. Lots of odd frame rate dips , If I crank it down to ugly mode it runs fine but I really don't wanna buy it if it needs more polish. I got a beta key from a friend and while the game is fantastic I'm going to wait to later on in the year if not early next year to pick it up.
 
I don't know what it is, but since the latest patch I can't go more than 1 hour of gaming without the game crashing.

I got kicked yesturday by punkbusters "failure to update" mid game. Before that never happened! I still keep alternating between being able to see a load of empty servers and it being normal...
 
Prices like that...folks, why NOT buy this game and support a high quality PC exclusive...even if you suck at it like I do. ;)
 
I'd love to but there are simply too many great games coming out. Its well worth the price.
 
So what are your thoughts on this game? Is it really that good? Just saying, I don't play COD games (or if I do play COD4, it's very very rarely) but I do play BC2, TF2 and whatnot. I did enjoy the first game, even when it was a free mod for UT2K4. I'd like some of you to convince me to get it.
 
If you like BC2, you will probably enjoy this. I'd describe this as a mix of BC2 and RO OST.
 
Question about the game play before I purchase, are weapons like the M1 Garand and semi auto pistols RPM limited by the game or do they fire as fast as you can click the mouse?

Well how about the semi auto rifles and pistols in general then, is the rate of fire limited by the game or is it as fast as you can click?

I haven't played it yet but I recall seeing rapid fire occurring in close quarters fights with pistols. I would imagine the recoil would make such unrestrained trigger pulling all but useless except in such close conditions. Then again, with the suppression system maybe not.

I haven't run into any limits into how fast I shoot with the semi auto rifles or pistols. You might not want to fire away that fast, though, as ammo is really limited and in a face to face encounter you don't have enough time to switch weapons.
 
It's been 3 days now where I connect to a server with supposedly people playing in it and when I join, there ends up to be nobody in the server. Any fix or acknowledgements from Tripwire about this?

Weapons are unlockable. Maybe if you are in beta they are all enabled for testing?

I'm in the anti-unlock camp, but it seems more and more fps games are that way these days. I feel either there should be no unlocks or everything should be available with a trivial amount of play time (BC2's for instance is arguably fine, although I still think it could be shorter to unlock everything). I don't know what the unlocking speed in RO2 is yet.

I'm in favor of the idea that two people of equal skill and knowledge of a game should be equal. Person B shouldn't have an inherent advantage just because he has played 100 hours vs. Person A's 20 hours.
 
I personally like the idea of unlocks, gives me a reason to keep playing. More motivation.

I have a really short attention span for games these days, and if unlocks help me keep playing then keep putting them in..

Awesome new patch coming, steam is d/ling it now, over 1.3gb.

Prolly a few new maps and hopefully a ping/lag fix for servers.
