The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

New MMOs should just skip their own launcher like what happened to Arenanet I had to download the game 4 or 5 times the gave up due to errors. and be ported to Steam. I do see this game in the top 100 for a long time. Its a good game if not one of the more complex ones.
I did play the game for maybe 20+ hours the non paying sub thing made sure the game was vacant. I still think Rift was a better game played that a few 100 hours.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Guild Wars 2 is coming to Steam on August 23 in addition to an in-game event. You can play with a free account, or purchase the entire collection. ArenaNet says the complete collection will be available off Steam at a later date. The 10th anniversary also heralds quality of life changes to the game to make it more welcoming to new players. The renderer was updated to DirectX 11, so hopefully the performance issues on new hardware will be a thing of the past.

I wouldn't mind playing this again, very cool. I've never played the expansions so that will be a new experience too.

So I decided to give the game another go after a sidelining it many years ago. Of course there is a ton of content in the game and lots of events to do, but I have a few questions that I did some Google research on, but I figured I would ask here because the answers were posted on forums from years ago.

I was inundated with tons of skins when I logged into my characters and of course opening these boxes have filled my bags with these skins. The internet says toss these skins in the trash as I have "learned" them. The internet also says to keep them as they are "free transmutes." I haven't taken the time to figure out what it costs and entails to transmute gear. Is it worthwhile to keep some of these skins around even if I have learned them? Or should I just toss them and move on?

Each of my character has a set of level 80 Exotic PvP gear. Of course this is taking up bag space as most of my characters are not level 80. I haven't Googled this one yet, but is there a PvP wardrobe tab or something for this gear?

I was given so many leveling boosts that I have no idea what to do with them all. I used the level 60 ones on my character slots. Should I just toss the rest? I want a character slot for one of each of the classes and as far as I can tell there are just 9.

The only thing worth buying from the Cash Shop is the Copper gear shredder thing and the gathering tools? I am not a Cash Shop type of person, but I like my bag space. :)

Thanks!

If you have an original account and want to play on the Steam client here are the instructions. You still have to buy your expansions and other DLC trans actions on the arenanet website instead of Steam so please do not mess that up!

If you want to sign in with your regular account, right click on Guild Wars 2 in your steam library and select Properties. Then paste -provider Portal into the "Launch Options" box.

The game runs like butter on the Steam Deck in the open world at least. I haven't tried PvP yet. I let the Steam Deck choose the settings because I could not be bothered to adjust them. :)

When choosing the control setup for the Steam Deck, there is a setting that the Default configuration recommends you set in the game. Pay attention to that and suddenly you will be swashbuckling around in the game world blowing up stuff! I set it and forgot what I had to set. :) But I am willing to go through my settings if necessary to help someone out!

I tried it again in a new starting area it's ok but it wouldn't let me play with a controller the user presets don't work at all. I'm playing EverQuest 2 and DAOC instead. Everything in Guild Wars 2 is immediate the colors lighting and animation is good though.

You using the Steam client? Just choose a community controller layout for the game that you are playing. Many Steam users make custom controller layouts for games and they work great!
