The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

loloolol

That's some good stuff. Glad to see anet has a sense of humor.

Is the even still open to get to the beta? I should have my comp up and running tonight.

Started playing this again. Joined a guild, 5% added XP on top of all the other ridiculous bonuses, it's going quick. Looking forward to the expansion.

Good lord that is a thick changelog. Getting excited for the expansion, I was going to wait until closer to launch to reinstall and log back in but with huge changes like this I may just do it now.

Finally hit 80 over the weekend. Trying to finish the personal story, I'm just passed the Temple of Lyssa part.

Announcing the Guild Wars 2 Revenant and Stronghold Test Weekend!
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/announcing-the-guild-wars-2-revenant-and-stronghold-test-weekend/

We’re inviting all pre-purchasers to join us for a special revenant test weekend starting Friday, July 10, at noon Pacific Time (UTC-7) and running until noon Pacific Time (UTC-7) on Monday, July 13. During this test weekend, you can create and play a revenant beta character anywhere in the existing game: PvE, PvP, and WvW! We’ll also be opening up our new Player vs. Player game mode, Stronghold, to all players who play in the queue for Unranked PvP over the course of the weekend.

I just bought this game today (Heroic edition from G2A because screw $50+ :D). Any tips on which class to try out first? I was told ranged is kind of OP, although PvP isn't my main concern.

If you just want to PvE, Solo, and explore etc, I think the general opinion is that Warrior is the best class for that with Ranger coming in second.

And if PvP is thrown in there every now and then? I feel like my clan mate will want to play that. Again it's not the main thing I'm trying to do, but if it does come up I don't want to be stuck with the useless class.

ranger is easy mode

elementalist are always in demand

mesmers are probably the hardest class to play..steep learning curve

engineers are probably the most fun...lots of different 'builds' for them...my main is an engi

never played a warriro/guadian/necro

thief is meh imho

good luck

Alright, thanks for the info! I'll go easy mode for my first character. Ranger seemed the most appealing to me when I looked anyways.

Iron, hit me up when you're online and I'll help you out. Ruohttas.5394

Oh shoot just saw your post, I'm already level 70 and had a clan mate help level. I found the fastest way to do it was to join EOTM though. Taking a bit of a break though, I played too much of this game in too short a time :p

Yeah. The CEO was saying that with the free accounts or trial accounts, there are some limitations, such as no sending random items and gold to players and whatnot. So, hopefully that curbs the gold sellers spamming free accounts. It seems like they've hit a pretty good balance between offering the full game for free, without it becoming the usual F2P junk.

I agree!

To accomplish that, we’ve already included the core game as a free bundle for anyone who buys Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. And today we’ll go a step further: we’re making the core game free for everyone. For anyone who’s been curious about Guild Wars 2, now you can just go to guildwars2.com, download the game, and start playing.

very very cool

ALSO

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is full of end-game content, including Masteries, Fractals, Stronghold, and our newly announced challenging group content, raids. It’s coming on October 23, just 55 days from now! This is the perfect time to bring new players into your guild, to help them level up and master their professions, to practice coordinating as a team, and to prepare for all the challenges that the jungle will bring.

Is HoT coming on Oct 23?

I really wish I could get into this game, but I just never fell in love with any of the classes. Something about the higher talents just made me hit a will with the game.

anyone else trying to get all their friends into the game? i got my brother playing now lol

Wait what. Why the hell did I pay $25 for GW2, I want my money back if it's free now

Have you purchased within 30 days? Then you can get a full refund, albeit you'll lose your character. link

There was MAJOR complaining about what you are upset about, but you've already missed the boat on getting a refund.

For all players who purchased the Guild Wars 2 core game from our website and registered it between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015 in anticipation of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we will automatically refund what you paid for the core game should you decide to pre-purchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our website or in-game store any time through July 31, 2015. If you take advantage of this refund and pre-purchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, all of your current account progress will be kept intact. We’ll provide further details on when refunds will be processed in the next couple weeks as we set up this process.

If you purchased the core Guild Wars 2 game from our website and registered it between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015, and you no longer want to play Guild Wars 2, we will refund your core game purchase price and close your account provided you make the request by July 31, 2015. Please contact our Customer Support team to make this request.

75% of which I'd bet are the ERP'ers hanging out in and around Salma. :p

I still log in now and then to look around. Was never a fan of the game system really, but there were always tons of people to talk to or RP with which was nice. Far more of a social community than I've found in FFXIV, that's for sure.

I should patch up and log in this week to see how the expansion is looking,

If they would give those of us a free version of the expansion who paid full price at release, I'd go back. As it is, I feel like charging for the expansion but giving the full game away with it is a huge slap in the face for people like me who bought in early but honestly found the game lacking.

Such a terrible thing. *eyeroll*

You had access to a couple years of free content, as they built the game up, and you're complaining now?

Anyway, the expansion is pretty darn cool. Didn't really like the Berserker playstyle, so I started a new Thief over the weekend. The game is gorgeous, certainly on par with FFXIV.

There's actual RP in the game? Maybe I just haven't found it, but I am usually RP focused and I didn't see much thus far. However, I've only rarely played GW2 and I've not spent a ton of time in the "main cities". I assume Lion's Arch is the "headquarters" for players, RP and otherwise?

I'm way too low level to even consider Maguuma/HoT content, but I upgraded anyway. I've always ended up playing another MMO to which I devoted much of my playtime so though I like GW2 I never have given it a real "push", leading me to being likea round level 13 or so even though I have an account since release! I should really give it more time with HoT now.

GW2 has been one of the most "player-friendly, quality of life, convenient" MMOs I've noticed, however. Their idea of making just about everytthing account wide, allowing the ability to switch professions without losing your skill, the Reagent Bank etc....probably had a lot to do with WoW adding some of these features in their most recent expansions.

The only thing I don't like is the Dye System NOT having "default" appearances for items/armor that THEN you dye. For instance, if you dye a "slot" to be green, then every single piece of gear you pick up will be green when you equip it to that slot. I know they have "Dye remover" but it seems more like a crappy brown color of its own than anything else. I'd expect gear to have "reasonable" color patterns by default - mail and plate are grey/silver, leather is brownish etc.. all with proper secondary/detail colors. There seem to be a handful of outfits you can preview on the Black Lion (cash) shop, that have their own color defaults regardless of your dye, but not even all of these do so! I'd really enjoy it much more if you didn't dye a slot so much as an item and each item came with its own distinct appearance/color scheme that "made sense. Players could still dye it as they wished, but a sane "default" would be nice, as would the ability to pick up a new piece of equipment and see it in said default state.

On the server I played on, RP was running all the time in the 3 taverns in Divinity's Reach. The Busted Flagon and The Golden Sun being the 2 busier spots and the Wench being a little less occupied.

It varies at times obviously, but those spots always had at least a couple people around and at times so many that following the chat was near impossible.

I think that's not quite a fair assessment of the situation. Game prices fluctuate dramatically. The earlier you buy a game, the more you pay for it. It's as simple as that.

Lovinggggg the expansion. And I'm still playing with all my friends who haven't bought it yet still. Such a awesome game
