The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

Good on ANet to do that I guess. I had a blast and am picking it back up again on my mesmer. They seem to be addressing a lot of issues and I'm excited for the 12/14 patch tomorrow :)

What's that address? The 12/14 patch I mean?

My experience seems to be the opposite. They seem to be ignoring huge bugs and issues.

Mesmers are getting a looking at. Jon Peters has already said he's addressing many bugs for mesmers in the 12/14/12 patch (which I don't know if it even dropped yet), primarily the iZerker. Mesmers are also getting "more reliable swiftness" as well due to rangers/necros/elementalists getting +25% passive MS on their respective signets.

Just tried playing and I couldn't even make it through one Spvp match. The combat has and always will be a gigantic mess of explosions and spell effects.

Every class has different spell effects. Honestly, once you get into the game it is pretty easy to tell what's going on- especially on small team spvp maps. This winter patch has been pretty awesome so far. They added a lot more content than I thought they would and still no reason for me to buy any gems because $$ is easy to get in the game.

Logged back on this week after a month off. Enjoying the christmas content and Fractals. This seems to be the pattern with the game for me, play for a couple weeks, put it down and pick it back up later.

Still fun and plenty of population to do whatever with.

I did too, still trying for a refund. In the end Anet got the money and i got a shitty game if they will give me my money back i will be happy. I will report back and let everyone know what happens.

Did you get it? I got mine off Gamefly, which is just a key that came from them. I am going to put in for a refund I think if yours is successful.

I hadn't played since the Karka counter attack, been playing the Wintersday content, it's still fun and I'm kind of interested in playing through the story I hadn't finished yet.

Nope, was told to ask gamefly for a refund. Which won't happen.

So whats the deal with Guild Wars 2 now ? Reading this forum, sounds like most players have jumped ship already ?

I thought GW2 was the second coming for MMO's ? The early previews back in Spring and Summer, made it sound like this game was the best MMO since WoW, but now it seems to be very short lived, and people leaving in droves ?

I was looking at picking this up for Christmas, play with my two brothers together casually. Do you recommend this game, or not ? We are old WoW players, my brothers left WoW years ago, hating the grind, and found end game in WoW a major time sink, and didn't want to work full time to keep up with WoW. They are very casual MMO players, just play a few hours a week.

The type of people you just described would be PERFECT for this game. It's very casual, and there's a lot to do. It does have it's flaws for those of us who have played other MMO's, but it's still a great game IMO.

For casual, yeah, it's a good choice. I play maybe once or twice a week if that and feel I've got my money out of it and then some. For those looking for a "serious" game, this isn't it. Personally I still like original Guild Wars better for mechanics -- if they had just updated graphics I would've been plenty happy. Can't say it's a bad game, though.

this is just one of a few back alley boards where the bullshitters outweigh the normal people. the game is nowhere near dead and just about every issue you see here besides the culling shit is greatly exaggerated. not to mention the people here who were seething swtor, tera and tsw fanboys and GW2 was their "nemesis"...lol. i guess you fake it till you make it, but it's only their gamecrush sinking.

yes, there are flaws but don't let the FUD fool you this is better than every other competing product released in the last year or two.

Yeah I like it. Its a great game to play with the wife. if you are like me and don't have as much time to play video games anymore the lack of subscription fee pays it off after 3-4 months. Plus regular free content. I'll gladly shell for an expansion if/when released.

Most of the complainers fall into at least 1 of 3 categories
1. hardcore masochistic raiders who want tons on inaccessible end game content for their l33t guild to grind
2.hardcore PVPers who will always complain about their class being at a disadvantage (any class based game with PVP will have plenty of people like this)
3. People who feel the game is too boring (kinda true of all MMOs as well, IMO its more of WHO you play with that makes it fun or not)

+1, great summary.

+1 Couldn't put it better myself. And unfortunately the first 2 are a vocal minority that flood the boards with complaints.

And equally as unfortunately, the casual players are either too busy enjoying the game in their free time to bother posting on the boards or visit the boards only to see how much of a whine fest it is and leave without bothering to post.

GW2 is doing just fine on population. ANET is actively supporting the game with tons of new content while continuing to fix issues. Sure, they may or may not be able to fix issues sooner, but it's a balancing act and I think they're doing a fine job. There's only so many hours in the work day and only so many developers on each team to do the work. Throwing more time and people at a problem does not necessarily speed up the work.

Teach me how to be cool and use phrases like this.

Zorachus don't you get tired of asking the same question over and over again every couple of months? Been going on over 3 years and you still haven't found anything to replace WoW.

Funny, I was about to ask the same thing.

I also chased the MMORPG releases looking for something similar to the feeling WoW gave me when I first started playing back in Vanilla.

The truth is, it doesn't exist. It's likely it will never exist again. It's not really the fault of the developers (even though they've released some real shitters), but more of that time in PC gaming and more-so my age.

I take the titles now for what they are, play what interests me, and move on. Missing games because they aren't going to produce that "original excitement" is really allowing yourself to miss out on some great gaming experiences.

I am a hardcore player in a hardcore WvW guild and we are still going strong. Every patch is a step forward in the right direction.

I love that they have monthly content patches and they seem to get better and better. For example, the halloween patch was the first big content patch and it added new pvp minigames (3), an insane jumping puzzle, a long traditional quest for a cool back piece that any class/level can use, and then it built up to a cool instance with an introduction cutscene. They added custom music for the halloween instances too! In November, they had the Karka event which was non-holiday, but it introduced an entire zone (with jumping puzzles etc), fractal dungeon - which can be done with any lvl character, and they had events leading up to a really long (3 hour?) boss event with extremely good rewards. In December, they changed their event system so people wouldn't miss the content that rolled out every day by preserving it all month, but it has been pretty impressive that they are still pumping out a ton of content and large bug fixes every week/month.

i asked on the "[h] GW2 guild" thread but no one answered so ill ask here. is there a guild? and where do most of u guys play? im on borlin pass because on the other thread, thats where someone said the guild was. got the game yesterday so switching servers is no big deal.

Im on Ehmry Bay and looking for people to play with. have 2 level 80's (warrior and ranger) and i like running dungeons/farming and sometimes WvW. "Constitution Rules" is my character.

what name do i need to give u guys for the invite then? my 1 char i have is "dukendaisy" and display name is "unLucky.6352"

I finally jumped ship from Borless Pass. For me, there is NO ONE playing on that server. I could spend all day playing and maybe see ten other players, who did NOT want to group. I moved to Tarnished Coast which seems to have a lot of people on most of the time.

New article on GW2 at massively. I Agree with most of it just dont understand how he can basically rag on the games core mechanics and then say how good it is.

Just because a game isn't perfect, doesn't mean it's not immensely enjoyable. The flaws he pointed out are very real and needs to be addressed, however, the flaws are greatly overshadowed by how enjoyable the game is despite the flaws.

QFT. There are elements that annoy me to no end with this game yet I still play it a few hours each day. It is quite enjoyable and would be even better if they were able to fix the issues the game has at present.

I too am on Ehmry Bay. I mostly play WvW but I need to get my fractals in for the month... in game name is Unseen Spectacle.

I'm in Borlis Pass and I run dungeons with my lvl 80 thief. I have 9 more runs left to do for CoF then I might do HOTW or fractals next. If anyone wants to play together message me :) I have a lvl 35 guardian I'm planning to do a 100% map completion on ^^

I just hit 80 with my thief. I went for a condition build. Full ac armor (carrion stats) carrion trinkets, 3 runes of afflicted and 3 runes of krait. I haven't picked my daggers yet, but with 2 level 70 blue daggers my cond DMG is still 1350 unbuffed. The bleeds are incredible. With 17k HP and 2100 armor and 2100 tough, I'm not nearly as squishy as I thought I'd be. All in all, its a lot of fun in pve, and totally different from my stand in place GS warrior.

I guess now that they've fixed mesmer I can work on finishing her up. 15 more levels.
