The Nintendo Switch 2 Thread

New Switch 2 revision is out with a considerably larger battery (5200 mAh to 8000 mAh) and much easier repairability to meet the EU requirements.

Not really worth trading for still unless there's also a considerable display upgrade. Otherwise I'm good until the inevitable OLED model comes in another year or two.

It doesn't come with a larger battery. There are aftermarket replacements already avaliable.

Finally docked VRR, I thought they weren’t going to implement it since the output didn’t properly support it.

Pretty cool. It'll be interesting to see which games end up supporting it. Hopefully it isn't a feature that never really sees the light of day.

I'm curious if VRR is possible on 3rd party docks, I was thinking of getting a cheap Antank (sp?) as a secondary/travel dock.

Wow, didn’t think VRR docked was even possible, that’s a huge update. Wish that would have been ready when I did my requiem playthrough. My the biggest complaint of the switch 2 is now fixed.

Good question, because I'm looking for a travel dock as well. I'm guessing the 3rd party dock would have to be updated somehow though, because I just had to update my dock in addition to the Switch itself. Which I can't remember ever having to install an update to the dock itself before. So I'm sure that Dock update was to add support for VRR.

Yes, this is why I thought we’d never get this update. I thought we’d need a new dock. I doubt third party docks will update like that.

I actually remember seeing one third party dock being able to be updated to support the Switch 2 after not initially working with it and only supporting the original Switch and other PC handhelds. I don't remember the brand, but if that's possible, then maybe they can do the game for VRR support if it doesn't already support that somehow.

Otherwise, I'm sure they'll have hardware revisions to support it now and hopefully able to buy them soon. Not really a huge deal for me though, as we mostly play simple multiplayer games when traveling and don't think VRR would be noticed or needed most of the time or even supported on most of the TVs we use.
