Lineage 2 from 2004 until 2009, I wish NCSoft would stop dicking around with Aion's and the such and make Lineage 3 :(

Played EQ1 for 6+ years, ended in early 2009 at the bleeding edge. I noticed I had 456 days /played...now I don't MMO. Star Wars may get me back into it, if only casually.

i miss earth and fracking beyond.
also alot of free mmo's
played Hero's online
aion,
eve
runes of magic
archlord

looking forward to black prophecy, and havent gotten around to DLing APB yet

The Realm for ~6 months
Everquest 1 - 1999 through 2005 bleeding edge. I had more HP as a magician than many main tanks in lower guilds. Had 300+ days played when I stopped. I went back for a couple months in late 2009 but I stopped cold turkey again and just refuse to play another MMO.

I can't spend the time I had with EQ1 and I don't feel like I am accomplishing anything unless I play like a hardcore nut lol.

I have been playing WoW since launch with some breaks here and there. I used to play DAoC, Star Wars Galaxies and Warhammer. Of those, I liked Warhammer the most. Such a terrible shame that they launched it about a year too soon and now it is dying a slow, sad death.

I agree, it really could have been the #2 MMO out, but was released way too damn early. The RvR "Lakes" should have been much much larger, or not even closed off, but the entire map world.

And the PVE quests sucked donkey balls, the Public Quest system was a good fresh idea, but for some reason was always empty. And the solo quests just seem lacking any soul, were way too vanilla and lame.

Graphics wise too, the game was a mixed bag. Some of the Tier 2 stuff looked awesome, like the dwarf lands were really cool for those teen levels. And Tier 4 also had some excellent art and graphics. But then other areas looked like dog poo, and unfinished almost and really poor quality.

Just seems if they made the best parts of the game the entire game it would have rocked, but only like 50% seemed great, and the other 50% unfinished and boring.

Currently playing Warhammer Online, a great large scale pvp MMO to hold me over until Planetside 2.

I stopped playing WAR last year, almost 18months ago. It is still alive ?

I wouldn't mind trying it again just for the PvP castle sieges if people are still playing ?

Is anyone else falling over themselves waiting for information on the Warhammer 40k MMO?

I'm hoping they'll go Planetside style with it and make it an action game as opposed to the traditional RPG style. I'm just really not in the mood to trade autoattacks back and forth waiting for timers.

I read somewhere few months ago, it would be making an appearance at this years E3, and set for release like in late 2011, or early 2012. But yes the game is still in development, they just keeping a tight lid on it the last couple of years.

I have played

FFXI 1.5 years
SWG 3 years
EVE online 1.5 years
STO 2 months + beta

Im currently trying the FFXIV alpha, it could be good, but atm I probably would not invest a ton of time into it. Fun except they still have alot to go in terms of UI/bugs. Graphics it looks pretty awesome.

Old Republic looks very good gameplay wise and bioware just wins in every game they make, the problem is I dont see any space combat (a absolute must for a Star wars mmo) and the graphics look a little to much like the clone wars CG, and looks too much like a saturday morning cartoon. Its hard for me to take seriously.

So I bought APB to try next. I might try LOTRO as I always pick up the box in Wal Mart and glance it over. Mark's toon may have sold me on that. :)

Also, how is LOTRO? I have never gave 2 shits about LOTR but those graphics have me intrigued. How is the game play? Community? End Game? PvP?

Gameplay is basically like WoW...you have your characters with skill tiles, and you click those skill tiles to execute the skills. There is crafting, there are raids, there are Fellowships instead of parties, Kinships instead of guilds. Level cap is currently 65, and the game world is flipping massive, and increasing in size again this fall in a free update.

Community is mostly older, mature players (as in mostly not 11 year old snotrags) who are tolkien lore hounds. End-game is where the game really begins. Lots of raids, loads of instances, and skirmishes. Skirmishes are story-based, randomized, repeatable instances that take 20 to 30 minutes to complete and give you cumulative rewards. You get a soldier to help you along in skirmishes, and you can have that soldier do just about anything, from tanking, to healing, nuking, buffing, or DPS.

Is there pvp in LoTRO?

I've played WAR, WoW, DAoC, Vanguard, Guild Wars and trying the APB beta atm.

I really only like the ones with PvP. If I want to fight CPU mobs then I would just rather play a quality SP game.

Call me crazy but I think DAoC had, by a good margin, the best pvp combat of any of the online games I tried. I like WAR but I think I just don't have the time to commit to these kinds of games anymore; otherwise I'd probably still be playing it. WoW was too cheesy in terms of graphics and way too much of a pve grindfest and Vanguard was pretty but had so many problems I didn't want to hang around for them to get fixed.

APB is a crack up with everyone careening around the streets, running over everyone and crashing into each other.

I got started with MMOs in 1997 with Ultima Online on Atlantic server
Since then I've played most of them
My active accounts right now are in Eve Online and WoW.

UO (briefly)
EQ (3 years)
Shadowbane (briefly)
WoW (since closed beta)

I've always been a major fan of Blizzard games and I still really enjoying playing WoW. I've been to the 2008 and 2009 Blizzcons and have tickets for the 2010.

I'm looking forward to Diablo 3 and the Star Wars one. Not a Blizzard game but since ALL my friends will play it only makes sense for me to try it out.

I spent about a year or two playing Ragnarok Online on private servers. Nice time-waster for a 10-year-old, plus it was free.

I've been playing WoW on and off since 2006. I've been off it for about a year and a half, probably going to get into it again soon when the expansion hits.

Looking towards the future, Star Wars: The Old Republic is something that's definitely on my radar.

I just gave up WoW after 5 years the game is not waht it used to be when i started in 2005, the community isnt great and what fun is it when u can max out in 2 weeks and geared up in another, but i digress. I am really looking forward to Star Wars The Old Republic alot! DC online looks sweet too, but im taking a break and holding out till SWTOR so i can clear my mind.

My MMO playing all started with the Beta of 10six online, which is now called Project Visitor and amazingly it is still around and still being updated. Since then I have played WoW, Guild Wars, LoTRO, AOC, Warhammer. I just finished a 5 hour session of APB, and I am waiting for SWTOR because I haven't played a SCI-FI MMO in a long time. I was really looking forward to SGW but its dead. :(

Project Visitor/10Six was (and still is) awesome, although I haven't played it for years now. I played DAOC, Guild Wars, AoC, and thats about it. I don't think I lasted more than a year or so in anything else than 10Six/PV, and that I played on and off because of intense time requirements (you can be attacked anytime, even off-line).

DC Online does look cool. They have the #1 comic book artist Jim Lee as art director.

I have only played Fantasy themed MMO's but this look like a fun change from that ? I am getting burned out from the wizards and dragons.

Plus DC Online is set in a rich universe with great history.

active wow since july 05. still liking it, probly as much for the social aspect and much as the "boom! kill things".

few months of guild wars, was fun, but i like to jump.

about to get into some Hello Kitty Island Adventure pretty hardcore.

Why is the PvP in LoTR so bad? Interested in checking it out? What are loot rules? I'm interested in open world PvP as well. Thinking this game might be for me.

PVP in LOTRO is probably not what you're thinking. It takes place in special zones and it's setup as players vs. monsters, where the monsters are controlled by real ppl. It's really pretty fun and well-developed. There are several different kinds of monsters you can create and they level up and learn new skills. There is no open-world pvp though

It isn't typical PvP. It's called Monster Play, or Player vs. Monster Player. Basically, after you get a character to level 10, you are allowed to create a level 65 monster. There are several to choose from: the Black Arrow (an uruk-hai archer), the War-Leader (an uruk-hai off-healer buffer), the Reaver (melee orc), the Defiler (orc healer), the Spider (debuffer), and the Warg (stealthy-debuffer). PvP is confined to one zone on the map, called the Ettenmoors. There, the monsters have their camp at the foot of Mount Gram, and the heroes have a camp at a ford called Glan Vraig. There are several outposts and keeps in the area which can be assaulted and taken. After a keep is taken, the area is filled with NPC helpers and quest people. Taking keeps offers certain benefits to the side which holds the most keeps. The most advantageous is access to The Delving of Fror, also called the Ettendeep. It is basically a big dungeon in which quests can be run and monsters/bosses killed and farmed for spirit stones, which are used to trade at Glan Vraig for armor and weapons, or at Gramsfoot for upgrades to the monster characters.

Access to the Ettenmoors for Heroes is restricted to those of at least level 40, though it is a terrible mistake to go there if you are level 40. You can assume that packs of stealthed wargs are prowling everywhere in the wilderness, and they will not hesitate to jump you and kill you.

I also like to stagger the stealthed attacks, so that at first, the freep will stay and fight rather than try to run. It gives them hope that they can pull out a victory, and just when it is looking good for them, the others attack and tear them up. It is especially fun to do against people you know from the Free People side.

Personally, I find it enjoyable on the creep side (which is Monsters) but not at all fun on the freep side ("Free People" or hero characters). After the game goes Free-to-play, PvP will be limited to VIP subscribers, so free players will not have access.

Here is my little warg pack. We use the unstealthed one as bait, so when someone attacks him, the others attack from stealth, which has all kinds of advantages, such as a knock-down stun and severe bleeding.

Yeah, I was reading up on the "free" LOTRO yesterday. Basically it's an unlimited trial, and if you want anything worth getting you have to pay monthly. they should just say there is an unlimited free trial.

It's very misleading.

Played Diablo 2, Guild Wars 1, WoW , and probably others.
I let my WoW time expire last Nov and haven't touched it since. I'll wait for Cataclysm before renewing my subscription. I still play Diablo 2 occasionally.

Anyone play WAR still? Hows the bugs and glitches? Is the end game a little more balanced?

I played this MANY years ago back when it was just subspace and had a blast. I didnt know that it was still even around.

Wow me too!

I played WoW for several years, but quit last fall. Had no urge to play again until a couple weeks ago. I'm trying to fight it but it's getting stronger...

Tried LOTRO but didn't really care for it. I think I was expecting it to be different, but it just seemed like an unfamilar and less fun version of WoW. Maybe I didn't give it a fair chance, but I played for a couple hours.

Currently playing Eve for almost a year and I'm getting kind of bored. I'm in a small corporation with a bunch of mostly RL friends and we stay in high sec and don't really do much, so I guess that's to be expected.

I resubbed WAR 3 months ago and have been really enjoying it, the servers have crunched down into a handful of more populated ones so the population is somewhat more stable, the 2 EU servers are packed at peak time.

The balance is fairly good, there is ongoing balance changes to the classes as some fairly nasty tactics had evolved in the game such as "bombing" where casters would aoe spam uncontrolably and wipe entire warbands in seconds, that's basically now fixed.

There is a lot of little refinements, loads of small things have been improved to make life just generally a lot better, extra flight paths, better tool tips and advice for new players, better filters for buying gear, much improved mailbox system, many new options in the menu for just about everything, hit indicators, text filters, auto roll options for loot etc.

There have been some big improvements in the real core design of the game as well, there is now new currency items that drop to allow players to save up for armour sets and weapon which works well, you can now easily get each Tiers armour set if you PvP a lot instead of only ever seeing 1-2 pieces before hitting the next tier. You also get currency called ordinance which goes towards buying RvR items like battering rams and siege cannons, and you also get currency items for upgrading keeps for when your guild takes a keep, so you can use this to get stronger doors, champion defenders, etc

T4 Forts were basically removed due to the unbearable lag, the city instances were revamped although now smaller (which is a shame) they are way more structured. Scenarios were trimmed of the ones no one ever played and they make guest apperances for live event weekends which renews interest in them.

A massive new zone was added for free, called Land of the Dead, a sort of egyptian undead area, it has 4 small dungeons and one epic one, it has about 18 public quests scattered about, it has champion mobs to grind and massive lord enemies to conquer, theres loads of unique talismans, weapons and armour for the area with their own currancy types. It's a really cool addition because the zone is both PvP and PvE, it's controlled by either order/dest and you flip control of it using resources gained from normal T4 RvR, this lets you into the zone but any enemies currently in the zone arent booted out so when you enter you have to purge the area of the enemy before you can safely PvE there, this causes some intense fights.

Graphics have improved as well, theres some post processing effects, armour colour has been revamped, spell effects are more detailed.

Christ...I am an MMO addict. Have probably TRIED a few dozen. Actually playing them pretty hard, it was definitely EQ that got me hooked. Went to AC for a bit, then DAOC. From there played Star Wars off and on (it was bad I know, but love SW). CoH then WoW. Played Aion hard for a few months...back to WoW casually now.

The one game I am looking forward to the most is Planes of Telara. The E3 presentation on the gameplay was pretty damn cool. Next would be Star Wars, and FFIX.

I started on Everquest from March 1999 to Jun 2004. I put thousands of hours into that. I swear when I got my VT neck from Aten Ha Ra Vex La La Tharall Hex .... I woke the entire apartment complex lol I broke my keyboard several times also lol

Planetside - 2003-Present I loved this game in its heyday. Used it on my breaks from EQ sad the game has basically died now.

FFXI - Played this with some people from my Guild in EQ, probally only played a few months, one super hard MMO was enough for me.

Earth and Beyond, I loved this, sadly it is no more.

Vanguard, What a buggy POS.. Played one month and no more..

Pirates of the Burning Sea, Same played for a month couldnt hold my intrest.

EQ2 - Played for a few months.

Oh yea Warhammer also, what a disappointment.

WoW - Enough said Played from release to now.

Star Trek Online - I like this play as a diversion from WoW or when ever I just want something different.

I am really looking foward to FFXIV waiting to see if I can get into the beta, however unless something major changes I'm sticking with WoW

Aten Ha Ra Vex La La Tharall Hex

Didn't you just love the names they had in that place. I remember Furor spouting off something to the effect of "these names look like the devs gave up on creativity and just pulled thier dicks out and slapped the keyboard a few times !)*&#"

I wore the malosini neck for several expansions and also had that spellshield stick that dropped in there only briefly.

Played WOW for about a year straight in a pretty hardcore guild. Had to quit 6 weeks ago because it was taking over my life. We were 11/12 Hardmode 25 man when I left.

Neverwinter Nights for AOL (1993-1996)
Ultima Online (1997-1999)
Everquest (1999 - 2001)
Dark Age of Camelot (2001-2002)
WoW (2005-2006)
Everquest II (2006-2007)
Final Fantasy XI (2002-Current) //Started at JP PC release
Mabinogi (2005-Current) //JP Servers
Phantasy Star Universe (2006-Current) //JP Servers

I counted any MMO I've played for at least 3 months in the year, so there's some overlap
Right now, I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on FFXIV, but no beta invite just yet ...

There seemed to be so many MMO's released this past 5 years or so. How many were truly awesome, and highly polished quality products ? Not many, maybe just, EQ2, WoW, and GW.

Two that came out way too early and sucked balls because of it were, Vanguard, and WAR. And both of those titles were high on my radar, hoping they would have been top dog. Too bad...

Here is hoping SW;TOR does not become the WarHammer of MMO's and is more of a highly polished quality product like an EQ or WoW.

Bleh, that reminds me...I have ALL of the VT clickies on my account, so.many.hours.of.wacking.4arms..

I started out with Everquest. Played it for about 4 months, but it left me wanting more from an MMO.

The next MMO I got into was DAoC. Of all the MMO's I've played, this was by far my favorite. I prefer the PvP aspect of MMOs more than anything else, and this game had great pvp/rvr. Whenever you felt like it, you could take a little trip out to the frontiers and find enemy players to kill. During peak hours there were constantly raids going. Seeing a few hundred vs a few hundred vs a few hundred was awesome. What eventually ruined it for me was when they added instances. It turned from an MMO into a single player game with a lobby in my eyes. Everyone would just level up in their own private instances.

After DAoC, I spent some time searching for a good MMO to play. I tried City of Heroes, Lineage, Final Fantasy Online, and probably a few others, but nothing really caught my attention.

Then came WoW. I would have to say that the PvE experience in WoW was by far the best. The quest system made levelling up not so tedious/boring. But on release, PvP kind of sucked. It mainly consisted of Southshore raids. Eventually they added in BGs which again, were all instanced. On release, you would have queue waits of 4-5 hours just to play a round of AV. I played this MMO the longest, from release til about 6 months ago with a few breaks inbetween. To me, the end-game is kind of disappointing, too much repetitive grinding, only to be repeated each new season, and everything end-game is pretty much instanced.

Currently I am looking for a good MMO. If DAoC ever came back with the same population that it had in it's prime and as the original release without instances, I would hop on that so quick. But, it seems the trend is to instance things now, so I doubt I will see much I like in the near future. APB looks interesting, but from the initial reports I've seen, the gameplay just kind of sucks.

God I wanted Vanguard to be good. I played beta and was like "Oh this is just buggy because of beta, it'll work out". I lied to myself for months that it was going to get better. But they ruined it. I hate that sony bought it out and the original Vigil team couldn't work on it. If they just left it to that company, it would have turned out a better more modern version of EQ and I would have died happy.
