We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

The MMO Thread

I played WoW from its first release up until a few months ago and called it quits. The way the game has evolved I just don't agree with and hackers run some rampant now its almost impossible to feel safe about your account. My account was hacked once and I do everything possible to avoid keyloggers, as many of my friends were. I just refuse to play that kind of game.

I'm personally seeing if the KOTOR MMO will be any good.

Authenticators: Bliss in knowing that if your Paypal / Bank account information is stolen, atleast your WoW account is safe!

... It isnt the authenticator for your paypal or bank account. It is the Blizzard Battle.net authenticator for your WoW and other Blizzard product accounts and its f'n epic.

So then I'll assume you understand fully what I just stated.

Played WoW for a while, but found it to cartoony. Been playing DDO off and on for about 3 years now.

And they've already come up with a work around and those with authenticators are getting hacked. Though they did help cut down on that sort of thing immensely.

But even if you do have an authenticator for wow people still take part in online activities that result in receiving a keylogger. And even if they couldn't steal your wow password those keyloggers still send back data on all the passwords you type for all the other websites. People need to be smarter about links they click and files they download.

I played wow for a good while. I loved vanilla. When BC came out, the game changed; easier. At first this was a great feeling... yay now I can do things and be laidback! Or not. Hardcore guilds increased in demand, and casual guilds had little to no structure to them. That and the vanilla stuff was still hard to get through. Blizzard kept changing, and changing, and changing the game... making it easier, simpler, and repetitive. Things that seemed like a challenge before was now a chore. WLK came and further proved this point. Alas, it came to the point where I was bored, annoyed, and lonely. Guilds fell apart constantly. So I quit a year ago, and haven't looked back.

What I do find myself missing are the friends: hey, let's do this together and talk about random fun stuff while we do it. I've been searching since I left for something similar, but nothing sticks out as something with a similar feel of friendliness. I've tried FFXI, but the game was way too slow for me. I tried various free stuff; I think Fiesta was the one I ended up keeping around the longest because my roommate and I would do stuff in it all the time. He got busy; I forgot; I looked for something new.

FFXIV, Aion, The Old Republic, and one other that escapes me right now look interesting, but I've fallen back into the "why do I have to keep paying for it to work?" mindset. Money is more important in my life now, so I don't want to buy something for $60 and only get to play it for a month. I don't get to play often (especially lately with my summer internship), so I doubt a month would really be long enough.

Is there any hope for me in the MMO world, or are multiplayer games just too limited for my needs anymore?

Tor is the last hope for me. I've tried and hated nearly every popular mmo including WoW. The only mmo that ever really got me into it was eve, which I played for 6 months and then left because I no longer had time for it. But Tor, I've been following it closely since 2006 and I can garuntee that anyone who liked kotor will like this game because it's basically kotor with multiplayer and a lot more content.

I'm not sure how one can make guarantees about a game that isn't even out yet (unless you're in the beta), but ok.

I hate the current state of MMO's. I have to actually do research before I make a game purchase. It's a shame really. to many people trying to go into the market and think they can put out a piece of shit and polish it up later. Doesn't work that way. First impression in MMO's are everything

I felt that way about WAR; my hopes were too high though. I still pretty much gave up on paying attention but figured I'd catch some buzz if there was a new to-die-for MMO. Although, the last to-die-for MMO was WoW and the pvp is wretched.

been playing Eve Online since beta in 2003. Quit off and on over the years, but keep going back to it. Best, deepest MMO I've ever played. Currently playing Eve more than any other game (though we just got a 4-pack of Borderlands during steam sale for $30).

The wife loves WoW, I got bored of it after a month. She got bored of it after a year. Other than Eve and WoW, not really any MMO's that have piqued our interest.
