The Evil Within

This game looks like a mind fuck. I'm loving this ! I just want to see someone fight some enemies to make my mind up.

Watching one stream and I'm like... hey that looks like a....*CRUNCH*.... trap.... yep, it was.

I dont know. I'm enjoying watching this guy suffer over and over playing it but dont know that its a game I'd really like that much. I like stealth and I like creepy, but this... I just dont know.

Will avoid watching any more streams - let alone console version - since it was a 45min stream that sold me on the game in the first place. I'm already converted. Prior to seeing the gameplay I didn't think much about this game, but atmosphere + exploration + adversity are my favorite traits for a game and they're all here.

What really hooked me on preordering: that the monsters are a bitch to take down. Its not just boom headshot and they go down like ragdolls in typical zombie shooters. And you play a guy that is relatively underpowered and having to scrounge ammo and resources to make it a few more minutes or just down the hallway. Which is why it was also good news to hear about NG+ and additional hardmodes being available after beating it once. Can't wait.

BTW, I imagine that actually playing the game yourself with headphones on or a surround system will carry more impact than just watching someone else's pixelated stream in a window. My 2c.

Yep, seems like the maps are not so big, but there is a lot of emergent gameplay. The experience is somewhat different each time because you have different ways to get defeat enemies, luring them into different areas, traps, etc. High replay value.

Must be embargo'd 'til tomorrow.
Usually reviews come out right before a game is released or at least the day of.

EDIT: Yep the embargo is tomorrow which is asinine.

EDIT 2: The The Evil Within forum on Steam disappeared about 20 minutes ago. It just loops back to the store page for now.

EDIT 3: Forums are back now and no more edits...:D

Console commands to unlock frame rate and adjust aspect ratio posted: Debug Console Commands - PC - Bethesda Softworks Forums

We promised them, and here they are! Please note that using debug console commands is unsupported by Bethesda and our customer service team.

To access the debug console, do the following:

  1. In Steam, right click on The Evil Within and select “properties” then under the General tab, hit “set launch options.”
  2. Put this in to unlock the console: +com_allowconsole 1
  3. Once the game has launched, hit the Insert key to bring down the developer console.
These are the commands you can use and some notes about each:
  • R_swapinterval <NUMBER>
    • Sets the FPS lock. Note that the numbers below are negative.
    • -2: This is the default, set to 30 FPS. This is the officially supported frame rate
    • -1: This sets the FPS limit to 60. Fully playable, although there may be quirks (we’re going to fix these).
    • 0: This fully unlocks the FPS. We do not recommend playing above 60. We will not fix any issues above 60.
  • God
    • God mode. You are effectively invincible, and certain enemy kill moves will not be used against you (Laura, for example, will not jump on you)
  • Noclip
    • Allows you to walk through walls
  • G_infiniteammo
    • Unlimited ammo (provided you have at least 1 bullet when you enable this)
  • G_stoptime 1
    • Stops time. Note there is a bug right now where using this command causes a UI element to appear on screen. We’re looking to fix that in the near future.
    • Re enable time with g_stoptime 0
  • Toggledebugcamera
    • Separates the camera from Sebastian so you can freely move around the
  • R_forceaspectratio <NUMBER>
    • Sets the aspect ratio. Default is 2.5, which is our official aspect ratio.
    • 0 is full screen, but not ideal. 1.8 or 2 is probably most comfortable for those who don’t want bars.
  • Com_showFPS
    • Turns on id’s native FPS counter
  • Startslowmotion2
    • Slows down time
  • Stopslowmotion
    • Disables slow motion

Yesss. Purchased for $49.49 with fighting chance pack and season pass on GMG.

thanks for posting!...I'm surprised they included God Mode and noclip cheat codes as well...would think the developers would not want to encourage people to play that way

They didn't want you to play outside of the aspect ratio or the 30fps either. If you're going to play it outside of the way they intended might as well throw everything in.

There seems to be a messup on Steam, the game still says preload even though I can play it. However because it is preload I can't enter in launch options to use the console commands.

Showing 1.5gb vram @ 1080 on my 670 4gb.

Mouse is squirrely in the menu's sort of like Falllout in the pip boy screen. Might need fix for that later.

The official release date is still tomorrow. Embargo will be up at midnight.

They said they were gonna release the command awhile ago. :/

They said they were gonna release the command awhile ago. :/
Um you missed my whole point of posting that which is the fact that they are saying its fully playable at 60 fps and they will fix any quirks. Before it was just use at your own risk type attitude.

Well once again the VRAM requirements were vastly exaggerated. Some users are reporting maxed out at 1440p at 1.5GB VRAM usage. SMH devs.

How do I use spoiler code?

The game looks good so far, great atmosphere.

I decided not to pre-order this. I hope its good. every news site has said not to specifically because of the review embargo. I desperately want it to be good but I have to stick to my guns on this bullshit thats been going on lately.

OT but I've always wondered how GMG always seems to be able to sell new games for a decent discount...do they have some sort of agreement with publishers or are they just taking a loss on everything they sell?

Fuck "Instant Gaming". I'm not sending them a photo copy of my ID just to buy a fucking game with PayPal. That's insane.

Cause retail price is marked up 100%.. Plus they buy codes in bulk.

The "octobe-r20gmg-offerx" code doesn't work.

I'll wait a few months until there is a price drop or sale on steam.
There is a 25% off code right there on the site.

The Evil Within and Season Pass combo is 65.98 then 49.49 after using the 25% off code.
