The Division 2

I rescued the npc guy who you can order around to protect you. He kept me alive when we ran across Krampus. Just got some armor set piece but it was fun.

That's part of the new season, you can get NPC followers.

If you level them up / recruit 10 each (eng / medi / assault), you can turn them "off" and keep the seasonal bonuses, which are pretty good.

did they ever add new SP content to this?
Like the Brooklyn DLC?
Or after that?
Each "season" is a bit different, encouraging different builds, and there's new gear sets, new items / named items, and new exotics, along with a season long manhunt that ends in a "Master" mission (one of the older ones w/ diff enemies / routes, and "Master" is notch above Legendary.

I still haven't beaten the Brooklyn DLC got bored of it - I'm not a looter shooter guy but at least Division always has pretty/advanced graphics. Div 1 sucked me in so much didn't mind the looter shooter aspect just to see/explore more of the world, 2 was good at least initially to play through the missions once.

Just look at the 1998 looking 'piles of leaves' etc everywhere in the Brooklyn DLC compared to the rest of the original game, it's obvious (because of money troubles) the ̶A̶ ̶B̶ C team is in now charge now :\

Ditto - I wish they would allow the mods that made it more like Ghost Recon Wild Lands / Breakpoint, but DEVS intentionally blocked them at every turn. I guess they knew people would drop their treasure hunt garbage & not buy any DLC's because players were having too much fun with a free mod that let them play the story with more realistic ballistics' vs the bullet sponge / level up minitua.

Wait there is a realism mod?
WOAH! I searched to show you links and found THIS:

Ubisoft has announced a new Realism Mode for The Division 2 as part of the franchise’s 10th-anniversary celebrations, set to launch in March 2026. This is an official, limited-time game mode—not a mod—and will be available exclusively to players who own the Warlords of New York expansion. It offers a stripped-down, immersive experience with realistic combat mechanics, reduced HUD, limited ammo, no health regeneration, and faster time-to-kill. As for The Division 1, while there is no official realism mode, a Definitive Edition was teased during the FPS Day X event, though no modding support exists due to the game's online-only architecture.

Prerequisites

  • The Division 2 base game
  • Warlords of New York expansion (required for Realism Mode)
  • Access to the game on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X/S
  • Stable internet connection (game is online-only)

Step-by-step instructions

  • Wait for the 10th-anniversary update in March 2026 to go live
  • Ensure you own the Warlords of New York expansion
  • Launch The Division 2 and access the anniversary season menu
  • Select Realism Mode to create a new realism character (uses a separate character slot)
  • Begin gameplay at the start of the Warlords of New York campaign
  • Adapt to realistic mechanics: manage stamina, limited ammo, no gear perks, and increased enemy lethality
  • Progress through the campaign to earn exclusive rewards tied to the anniversary event
Note: This mode is not permanent and will only be available during the anniversary mini-season (estimated 3–4 weeks).
There are no current plans for a similar mode in The Division 1, though the teased Definitive Edition may include quality-of-life updates.

Today I learned about The Division 1 Survival Mode & might be reinstalling it...

EDIT - requires - Survival DLC

The Division 1 Survival Mode is a high-stakes, limited-time game mode set in a blizzard-stricken Manhattan, where players must scavenge, craft, and fight to survive extreme cold, infection, and enemy threats before extracting via helicopter. You start with minimal gear—a pistol, fabric, and painkillers—and must complete a series of objectives under intense pressure, all while managing temperature, hunger, thirst, and a deadly infection timer. The mode supports PvP and PvE variants, can be played solo or in groups, and remains fully playable in 2026 with active matchmaking, including solo runs against AI if no players join.

Prerequisites

  • Tom Clancy’s The Division base game
  • Survival DLC (available on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation)
  • Recommended: Level 30 character (though any level can play)
  • Stable internet connection for matchmaking

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Access Survival Mode from the main menu or Base of Operations and select PvP or PvE based on your preference.
  2. Start the match—you’ll spawn in a hideout with a pistol, basic fabric, and painkillers. Immediately check your infection and temperature meters.
  3. Manage early survival needs:
    • Use painkillers to slow the infection timer.
    • Craft or loot warm clothing (scarf, hat) to resist freezing.
    • Collect water and food to increase detection range and stamina.
  4. Craft essential gear:
    • Craft a Basic Virus Filter to enter the Dark Zone.
    • Craft Pulse and First Aid skills for detection and healing.
    • Gather materials (fabric, tools, electronics, weapon parts) from shelters and landmarks.
  5. Enter the Dark Zone—once equipped, head to the DaRk_ZoNe boundary and use your filter to cross.
  6. Locate and secure Anti-Virals:
    • Anti-virals are hidden in landmark locations (typically DZ3–DZ5).
    • Loot caches (up to 6) from elite enemies and bosses guarding the antivirals.
  7. Craft a Flare Gun to call extraction—this triggers the final phase.
  8. Prepare for extraction:
    • Move to a safe extraction point (e.g., Bryant Park or DZ5 rooftop).
    • Avoid staying stationary—Hunters will spawn and attack.
  9. Defeat the Hunter:
    • Hunters are fast, can heal, and are aggressive.
    • Use flashbangs to disorient, then focus fire—headshots are effective.
    • Stay mobile and use cover to avoid grenades and flanking.
  10. Extract when the helicopter arrives—your survival caches and score-based rewards will be delivered post-mission.
Survival Mode rewards players with Survival Caches containing high-end gear, weapons, and crafting materials usable in the main game. Your final score depends on time survived, objectives completed, and loot collected.

No one wanted a cross over event. Stop doing cross overs and get us Div 3 sooner!

Looks like we may be getting a PvE Dark Zone, yes you read that right, a PvE Dark Zone. Finally! I've wanted to explore the DZ without getting griefed.

That's great news.

I have been back into this in the last couple of months after a fairly lengthy hiatus.

I am generally happy with where the game is at these days although I still think the menus, economy, and process for upgrading gear needs more intuitiveness and streamlining.

I've been playing this a lot lately. About once a year, I'll come back to this game and play it for months before putting it away. There's just so much content, and they keep adding more via Seasons and what not. If you pick this up on sale, it's a ridiculous amount of content for the asking price. And I think it's a fun game too, even solo.

The New York DLC is basically free now. The current event is the anniversary celebration of the Brooklyn DLC. They just concluded the Cherry Blossom event, which was a good way to farm legendary gear.

My biggest complaint with the game is still the 350 stash limit and putting the three +50 increments behind a paywall. I feel this is Tarkov levels of greed. It's a stash, not content. You've created nothing and are charging for it?

The game also still holds up visually and I get max fps despite it not supporting modern features like DLSS. I'm wondering how much effort it would take to force DLAA in a game that doesn't support it natively?

I am the exact same way. Div 1 and 2 are some of my all-time favorite games. I keep going back to them. I will play for several months then take a break for months then go back to them.

I am really excited for PvE DZ. I'm 43 and a lifelong gamer and I can't stand PvP anymore. PvP used to be fun but these days, in any PvP game, it's nothing but hackers, sweats, and/or griefers. There's no point to PvP anymore.

Div 1 DZ was great - problem since inception of 2 DZ is it is split, and each split area is too small.

I mean, PVP is just jank on this game. The gameplay around it was super awkward and basically all you could do was pray you didn't come across someone with a PVP build because there was quite literally nothing you could do - and I mean nothing.

As much as I wanted to like it, it was just not great in practice.

I was also going to say they should just normalize stats in PVP... and sure enough, the post actually mentions that they're offering exactly this now!

I might reinstall and check it out.

But in 1 DZ you could still lose other players in the DZ coming after you by using/running through PVE entities to make them engage the other player, or just outrunning/hiding from them in the map etc (aside from taking them on if you have another player/builds) - 2 DZ is too small to do any of that in practice, even though in theory still possible. And the biggest one you can't do cause it's so small is set off an extraction point at 'A' but then run across the map and do another one/actually extract at 'B' while they all run towards A to get you.

I still love my Div1 engineer build over the Frankenstein's monster "engineer" they have in Div2. I've attempted to play Div2 multiple times over with new content but could never fully strive with it much. Winter Apocalypse NYC is what I loved the most. Sadly it won't ever be released to be enjoyed as SP unless someone figures out an emulated server experience locally when Ubisoft or whomever owns it at the time kills the servers off.
