I thought it might be a good idea to start a database for this mobo since it seems to be pretty popular. It seems that you guys are pretty active with this board so lets get this started! Let everyone know about this thread and maybe we can narrow down the optimum build.

If you 've built a new system based on this board, please list your hardware specs and ANY problems you've encountered. I'm hoping in doing this we can head off any problems future builders may have with this board.

List in this order:

HARDWARE:
mobo A8N32SLI
cpu Fx-55
memory2 X 1gb 3200 OCZ
hard drive(s)1 X 120gb Seagate Barracuda
graphics card2 X 7800 Gtx
sound cardCreative Audigy
power supplyANTEC True Control 2.0 550 Power supply

Well, you can just see my specs in my sig. My only problem was that the default BIOS that came with my mobo had the HTT bus speed incorrectly set to 400 mhz and caused crashing in FEAR and BF2. A BIOS update fixed the issue. I suppose you could manually change the HTT Bus speed, but you might as well d/l the latest BIOS. Other than that, no problems, and my rig has been running great since.

Well, one problem I am having is after playing BF2 for like 3 hours straight things get REALLY Stuttery, and eventually the system just freezes and I have to restart. SOmetimes when it freezes I can exit back to windows, and it appears as if the graphics driver was uninstalled after looking in device manager, and the resolution and color depth were set to 640x480 16 colors. A simple reset resolves the issue, but it gets kinda annoying...

Also, I think the mobo temp sensor is reading values that are too high. Under load my mobo temp gets to around 50C and the CPU temp gets to around 48C.

Still not really happy with that either. Have a pretty heavy duty cooling setup on the CPU so woulda liked to have seen <40 for the cpu grrr. Anyhow..

So I stripped it down 1009 bios flashed fresh xp install the sp2, drivers then FEAR. Played a few lvls no prob so I'm a bit happier. Leavin it overnight runnin P95 and rthdrbl see how it copes. If all goes well tomorrow I'll be winding this baby up.

Out of curiousity, did you guys decide to go with the Nvidia IDE drivers? I stuck with the MS ones myself, but I've been wanting to know whether using the Nvidia ones would be a better idea..

It looks like quite a few people have got high temps with this board. My idles are 40C cpu / 38C mobo, and after leaving Prime on for 24 hours straight I found the average temp at load was 52C cpu / 42C mobo.

I'm not worried about it honestly, my system has been solid. :)

I have only used the MS IDE drivers, however I always install the nVidia SMBus drivers (which does include some IDE interface drivers. I have always told the installer no when asked to intall the IDE SW drivers, and I have read on many forums that this is the best way to go.

Can't change FSB multiplier. BIOS has no option to change it??

Yes you can!

In your bios, go to Advanced Chipset Settings ----> K8 to NB Frequency

This is your FSB!

1000 = 5x
800 = 4x
600 = 3x
400 = 2x

:cool:

well that's not what I wanted. but I figured it out. LOL

I still can't get this thing to OC hardly atl all. I would be happy with 2.4.
If I use the AI NOS I get to 3% OC at 5% it crashes upon XP startup.

Maybe I just don't know what I am doing:confused:.

idle CPU temp 43c
Mobo temp 39c

What do you mean "thats not what I wanted"? You needed to know the FSB multipliers...andd that's what I told you. I don't understand what you mean.

Also, overclocking using AI NOS is possibly the worst way to overclock a system. To do it correctly you should manually adjust your BIOS settings. Do some research first before you begin this process. It is highly dependent on the type of RAM you are using as well as other factors. Create a thread in the Overclocking forum if you need help, don't want to thread hijack.

Also have the overvoltage problem.
currently set to manual in the bios at 1.325 (which shows up in CPUz)
ASUSProbe reports voltage @ 1.38 to 1.39 tho.

CURRENT STATUS:
Up and running (no lockups or slow downs, but temps still worry me).

also, is there any way to get this damn thing to STOP auto overclocking? all bios settings are set to manal in the Jumper Free settings and values are at default settings. AI NOS is disabled and AI BOOSTER doesnt run by default, but is set to STANDARD instead of AUTO. yet the machine still will boost the CPU frequency from 2200 to 2210 or 2206. (cool 'n quiet is disabled btw).
